There are secrets hiding amongst the books.

When Sophia flew to Greece on short notice to meet her grandfather before he died, she had no idea she was stepping from her normal—if magical—world into one of mysteries and ancient texts. It’s thrilling even as it overwhelms her, and that’s before she realizes there are dangerous plots slithering in the dark corners of the library.

All too quickly, what had begun as an exciting adventure turns into a nightmare, as she has to simultaneously mourn her grandfather, navigate the Athenaeum, and keep herself from becoming the next casualty. Except she doesn’t know who she can trust and who is trying to get rid of her.

Despite her fears, she can’t help but be drawn to Lucas—the handsome head of security. But is he really on her side, or is he getting close to her for another reason? She can only hope she lives to discover the answer.

This is the first of a trilogy and does end on a minor cliffhanger.

Meg M. Robinson is a fantasy author who lives in north Georgia with her husband, cat, and three dogs.

She’s obsessed with crows, mythology, and Halloween. And, of course, books. When she’s not focused on either reading or writing a book, she enjoys going for motorcycle rides with her husband, archery, and baking.

Her favorite books to write are what she terms ‘bathtub books’—stories that allow her readers to just relax and get lost in the story. Greek mythology influences every book, as she’s adored it since she was a child.

When plotting a new story, she loves to weave real-world places, mysteries, and myths into her stories, but with her own twists. It was watching a video on Stonehenge’s purpose that led to her writing her first full story, where she came up with her own story behind Stonehenge.

This book was so unique! I truly didn't know what I was getting into, but my goodness am I glad I did!
A history+language+culture nerd, Greece, a super hot leader of security, magic, a GIGANTIC library, and a whodunit? What's not to love?!

I enjoyed this book quite a bit, and I loved how Sophia was so brave, so full of love, and so open to learning even when things got hard. Our heroine is kind, determined, and incredibly smart. She can hold her own and she knows she can do anything she sets her mind to. But, is she a detective? Not really, no. But the fact that she realizes it's up to her to solve murder, while fighting for her own life, falling in love, meeting family members, and learning about the most secretive library in the world, is admirable and keeps you reading!
The pacing of this book was pretty good. There was some slow bits, but the world building was great.
I would have love some more time with Sophia and Lucas, and their conversations, but, it was still enough that I got butterflies.
I was SURE that I knew who the murderer was, but my goodness, what a twist! I still don't know what to believe!
I can't wait until the next book, because this mystery is one I am eager to have solved. And I sure as heck am stoked to see the relationship between Lucas and Sophia blossom.

The mystery and magic is amazing in this first installment.

Ancient secrets, hidden texts, mythological elements and so many twists kept me engrossed in the book.

The writing was good though there were times when there were too many mysteries and too many plots. But the premise of the book is quite different and intriguing. I liked that Sophia's bond and emotional attachment with her grandfather and his "legacy" helped in her character development.

I received an advance copy of the book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a nice break from my normal romance reads. Meg has crafted a wonderful world, mixing mythology and mystery who-dun-it to create a stunning novel. It isn’t the fastest pace novel, but it does keep your interest.
The concept of the reconnection of family members is also a nice touch and makes a feel good moment for the novel!
If you are looking for a bit of a slow burn romance, with a mystery, and mythology-this is an immediate add to your TBR!.

What a start to a series! I could not put down the book. Meg did a great job with explaining the Athenaeum and its construct. The mystery and story itself of twisty, magic-y and absolutely amazing! I cannot wait for the second installment.

* ARC Review *

Meg M. Robinson's The Legacy is a captivating foray into a world where Greek culture, magic, and family drama intertwine. This debut novel offers readers a fresh perspective on classic mythology, blending it with modern themes of murder and secrets, though it does have its shortcomings.

Set against a backdrop rich in Greek cultural references—language, literature, history, and myth—Robinson creates a tapestry where ancient traditions resonate within a contemporary setting. The novel explores a world where the remnants of Greek mythology are more than mere legends; they are living realities that influence the characters' lives.

Central to the story is a gripping tale of family reunion. The plot hinges on the protagonist’s journey to reconnect with estranged family members, uncovering deep-seated secrets and hidden motives along the way. The exploration of familial bonds adds a layer of emotional depth, making the stakes feel personal and high.

Magic plays a significant role in the narrative, though its integration feels somewhat uneven. Robinson introduces the concept of magical races, hinting at a broader magical universe. However, these elements often come across as an afterthought or as if they were intended for future installments rather than fully realized in this first book. The magical system and its implications are intriguing, and one hopes that subsequent volumes will delve deeper into this aspect, providing a richer and more immersive magical lore.

The novel's plot is driven by a murder mystery, which intertwines with the protagonist's quest for family and truth. This aspect of the story is engaging, with twists and turns that keep readers on their toes. The unraveling of secrets and the revelation of hidden agendas add suspense and drive the narrative forward.

Despite these strengths, The Legacy may not resonate as a book to revisit. While it offers a light and enjoyable read, the initial excitement may not sustain upon a second encounter. The introduction of other magical races, though promising, feels underdeveloped and may benefit from further exploration in future installments.

Overall, Meg M. Robinson's The Legacy is a well-crafted debut that successfully blends Greek mythology with modern storytelling. Its family dynamics and mystery elements provide a solid foundation for an engaging narrative, though the magical world and its potential are only hinted at. For readers looking for a captivating, albeit light, read with a mythological twist, The Legacy is worth exploring.

A story of magic, books, history and mystery.

I was hesitant to write this review, the story of this book, although it screams read me, you'll never want to put me down, I did do that in some places, only when I felt it had overreached beyond the plausible boundaries I can expect for a fantasy novel. Now that's not to say the book isn't good. It's very good. I in fact loved it. It's just that some parts had me doing the 'pfffft' reaction, where I wish it had been handled better.
I do love the storyline, and I think changing it would make the experience very different because how it is now has you drawn in, made a part of the world.

We are whisked away to Greece and stumble ourselves into a murder mystery, giving us Nancy Drew vibes.
I was totally wrong about my suspicions of the suspect! The plot twists really had me going, I was so certain I was right, shifty library folk everywhere. I was wrong.

The cute little love interest that takes hold in the book, is very interesting. The spiciness was ❤️‍🔥

I was left a little baffled around the 16% percent mark I think it was, when we suddenly got thrown a whole new info dump, with regards to characteristics, up until that point I had 0 clue about the heritage of the characters other than they had some sort of magical background. It was then forced upon us about shifters and elves and gargoyles and it was a bit much.

Despite all of that, the pace, even though it dropped a little in some spots, was eventually evened out and the story came together.

For a debut novel, the start of a series no less, I think it is a fantastic introduction into what is to come, and I for one, can't wait to find out what happens next!

I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

Triggers: grief, loss, death, murder
