When Jena Lewis of the 21st century goes to sleep every night, she is transported to another universe, where she is known by the name Ara. A wanted assassin, Ara is assigned to a difficult task of killing someone that causes her to question the morality of her job. As her real world and dream worlds collide, Jena/Ara must decide which means more to her and how to survive them both through the trials of kidnapping, deaths, unsuspected friendships, and possibly falling in love.
I absolutely loved this book! It's such a great addition to the romantasy genre (what I would consider it)! I was in a bit of a reading slump before reading Night Dreamer, but this brought me out of it!
I loved the duality of the FMC between her character as Jena (modern world) and Ara (assassin in the old world). In both worlds, she's cunning, a bit reserved, but strong. I also loved the corresponding male characters-- Lincoln (modern world) for his grumpy/mysterious personality and Wes (old world) for his loyalty and love.
The dual world plot gave such momentum--as every chapter passed, I couldn't help but be on the edge of my seat as to what was happening in the other world simultaneously. There were a few moments where I thought I had things figured out (some great, subtle, foreshadowing moments), but NOPE! Plot twist!
Anna did an amazing job writing and telling this story. Night Dreamer has it all- magical realism, dual worlds, a little romance, suspense, action, and a touch of a modern-day setting to keep it all connected.
I'm with all the other reviewers-- I need a second book!!
This book was fantastic! I absolutely loved it! With such an original and unique storyline, I was absolutely hooked and completely invested in the story the whole way through.
The FMC in this book has two lives that she's living. One as Ara, a badass assassin in a medieval land, and Jena, an average 18 year old living in the 21st century - except that every night when she falls asleep, she becomes Ara living in the medieval land.
The back and forth between the two different worlds and everything that was going on kept me so engaged in the story. While so much of this story gave me that fantasy feeling that I absolutely love with the magical realism and the medieval vibes, it also has an element of mystery and suspense, especially toward the end, that also gave me those triller vibes that I've been craving lately.
This book was definitely a five star read for me. And a bonus is that it was written by an indie author! I love supporting indie authors, and let me tell you, Anna can write!
If you love a story with action, adventure, a touch of romance, and a bit of mystery and suspense, I definitely suggest you read this book. I think you'll love it as much as I do!
I received a gifted copy of this book from the author. I am voluntarily giving my honest review.
HAD ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT!!! This book transported me into a new world (or two) and I couldn’t stop reading!! So attached to these characters and NEED a part 2!!!
