Geoff Johns originally hails from Detroit, Michigan. He attended Michigan State University, where he earned a degree in Media Arts and Film. He moved to Los Angeles in the late 1990s in search of work within the film industry. Through perseverance, Geoff ended up as the assistant to Richard Donner, working on Conspiracy Theory and Lethal Weapon 4. During that time, he also began his comics career writing Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. and JSA (co-written with David S. Goyer) for DC Comics. He worked with Richard Donner for four years, leaving the company to pursue writing full-time.
His first comics assignments led to a critically acclaimed five-year run on the The Flash. Since then, he has quickly become one of the most popular and prolific comics writers today, working on such titles including a highly successful re-imagining of Green Lantern, Action Comics (co-written with Richard Donner), Teen Titans, Justice Society of America, Infinite Crisis and the experimental breakout hit series 52 for DC with Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka and Mark Waid. Geoff received the Wizard Fan Award for Breakout Talent of 2002 and Writer of the Year for 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 as well as the CBG Writer of the Year 2003 thru 2005, 2007 and CBG Best Comic Book Series for JSA 2001 thru 2005. Geoff also developed BLADE: THE SERIES with David S. Goyer, as well as penned the acclaimed “Legion” episode of SMALLVILLE. He also served as staff writer for the fourth season of ROBOT CHICKEN.
Geoff recently became a New York Times Bestselling author with the graphic novel Superman: Brainiac with art by Gary Frank.
Beautiful script/plot. I’m following this and Rook by Johns and his pacing in both series is excellent.
He plots out his issues in a way that it feels like just the right amount of plot is told in an issue that leaves me very satisfied on how it developed by the end of that issue.
The personal stories and experiences for both Geiger and Knight vis a vis books were so personal and touching.
The ability books have to offer the reader a warm refuge from the harsh world outside-that’s what this issue was about (and meta, I might add). I really like Geiger and Rook and am so impressed with Johns as a storyteller.
I really like a lot of Geoff Johns's work, most of it is great, to me. The stories are always VERY well thought out and flushed out to make it some of the best writing in comics of late. I am a big fan of Geiger and have been since it was announced years ago and the 1st part of the series in 2021 or 22 which there is 1 volume of that Geiger story but it's what initially got me interested in this and had me waiting to read more. I also like the Ghost machine thing these writers and artists are putting together. The world includes Geiger, Junkyard Joe( which is also very good), Redcoat and Rook Exodus. Rook is very interesting and I wanna read more of it. But all and all Geiger is what I really really enjoy. Art is amazing, story is great, the characters are awesome and Geiger probably has the most bad ass pet of the apocalypse lol.
Geiger, Barney and Nate take refuge in a library as they reflect back on their memories of life before the apocalypse. This I feel was the issue I needed, something with more of an emotional touch to connect me to the characters even more. All three characters get a moment here.
I thought it was also interesting hearing Geiger and Nate talk about the nature of books as well, why one of them likes to read while the other does not. A little Easter egg tying back to Geiger: Ground Zero if you read that. The ending makes me anxious though…
A topic everyone here will like: the importance of books! Geiger (G) and Nate (N) spend the night a library. Nate admits that he was never much of a reader; what follows as they settle down is a very interesting conversation about books! I am really enjoying this series - a great way to just escape from it all on a rainy day!
I cannot say enough about Ghost Machine, Geiger and the entire creative team. The beginning stages of a true shared universe are happening right before my eyes and the literary rabbit holes that are expanding said universe even further are everywhere within these pages and trickled throughout the cover. Thank you Geoff & Gary, thank you Brad & Rob. Thank you.
