**This is EPISODE 4 of a 4-part serialized novel**
WATER WALKER is the mind-bending thrill ride from New York Times bestselling author Ted Dekker which can be experienced THREE different ways. You choose:
1. As an episodic story. Read WATER WALKER as four shorter sequential "episodes" much like your favorite TV show. The ride starts with Episode 1. Think of it as the pilot. If you like the story, continue with Episode 2, Episode 3, and the grand finale Episode 4.
Or...
2. As a single, novel length eBook. Don't want to read four episodes? No problem. You can get the entire story in one digital edition that collects all four episodes into one seamless story.
Or...
3. As a paperback. For those who love print, Water Walker is also now available in paperback.
FROM THE BACK COVER:
"My name is Alice Ringwald, but the man who kidnapped me says that's a lie."
Thirteen-year-old orphan Alice Ringwald has no memory beyond six months ago. The only life she knows is the new one she's creating one day at a time with the loving couple that recently adopted her and gave her new hope. That hope, however, is shattered one night when she is abducted by a strange man. In a frantic FBI man hunt, the kidnapper vanished with Alice.
Ted Dekker is known for novels that combine adrenaline-laced stories with unexpected plot twists, unforgettable characters, and incredible confrontations between good and evil. Ted lives in Austin with his wife LeeAnn and their four children.
This final episode wraps the story up brilliantly. What I found most compelling about this final episode was the powerful message of letting go of your fears (yes, step out of the boat) so you can step into your destiny. We have been wonderfully made not to surrender to our fears, but to lean into them in faith, so we can realise all that God has for us.
We see the message demonstrated by both Eden and her mother, Kathryn. In doing so, both of their lives are transformed. It's also especially wonderful that we see the power of Eden forgiving Kathryn, enabling the latter to step out of her boat which brings the two of them freedom.
And Olivia Strauss, who made such a strong impression in Ep1, reappears in this final instalment. I hope we see her again in future works.
I love reading a novel like this and look forward to reading more of them.
This last book in the series brings Olivia and Stephen back together with Alice/Eden in terrible danger. Kathryn had given her life to Zeke hadn't she? He had saved her. She had to follow him no matter where it took her. She must do as he told her. Or does she? Who will save Eden from this hell on earth? Olivia, Stephen/Outlaw? Or will Eden find the strength to save herself? Another great series by the master storyteller, Ted Dekker. This is no less of an edge-of-you-seat thrill read than any of his other books. The reader will be highly impressed and look forward to reading any and all of his other novels.
Finally the last book in the series! It ended differently than expected. It was very good. I think you have to have read some of his other books to totally understand it. There are a lot of references that have been in other books. Part of my does not really like that. That thread carried through all of these books. I am not a big fan of that. But it is OK, I can live with it because Ted's writing is very captivating.
This book made me think, and think a lot. And that's always a good thing.
Water Walker is an amazing story. It holds the key to a deep truth that resides in all of us, though few find the key to unlock it. Instead they stay bound by the chains of their past and their circumstances. Read this Book! Challenge what you know and how you think the world is. Know that your circumstances don't define you. Take the journey, step out of the boat, Walk on Water. Your past only holds the power over you that you give it. If something in your past troubles you, then you need to read this book.
Had a great ending that I will let you see for yourself!
Alice had a long hard road ahead of her, but in the end her eyes are opened to see what really matters!
Dekker's books are fiction, but they always hold so much truth for us. Thats why I keep reading. He gives us truth in a way we can except and understand, and have the ride of our life along the way!
No matter if you are Christian or not you will love it! A mind twister with lots of intrigue to let you learn something about yourself or just go along for the ride its amazing!
Not sure how I feel about the ending. Very philosophical. I think I just enjoy books with less symbolism in them. I was glad for the happy ending though.
This is definitely one of my favorites by Ted Dekker. He has intricately woven together a story of abuse, greed, forgiveness, and finally, freedom. It's an amazing story.
We first meet Eden/Alice in Eyes Wide Open. Her story picks up in Water Walker, with her memories of everything before 6 months ago gone, though she gets flashes on occasion about a hospital. Water Walker has taken us forward five years to where Eden is an adult and has come into an inheritance from her biological father. Stephen, who we meet in Outlaw, has the ability to connect with Eden through dreams, but he doesn't know where she is. What she needs, though, is to see reality, to know the truth, to face her fear.
To forgive.
The concept of your body being a costume that you wear, that covers your true self, is presented in Eyes Wide Open and follows through to Outlaw. Stephen has to open Eden's eyes to the fact that nothing can hurt her true self, because her true self is separate from her costume. Once she let's go of the anger and hurt she feels because of what people have done to her costume, she can be free.
Dekker's books are stories with layers of meaning. This novel will make you think and question. Due to violence, this is not a book for the family. But if you want to learn something, take a chance on it.
This was a hard series to read because of the abuse and hopelessness Eden went thru - made me deal with why do bad things happen to good people types of questions ..and it show cases how the mysteries of JC work - in the hearts and minds of people - and how it manifests into reality- beautiful! Yes indeed - I recommend and I want to read more from this author
Alice is an orphan child living in the foster system when one day a random man claiming to be her father kidnaps her from her new home. She soon realizes her new name is Eden and according to her mother, she was sent from God to atone for her family's sins. She’s held prisoner by her mother who is under some apparent mind control by someone with a god complex. Years go by and it seems Eden has adjusted to her new prison despite the abuse she has suffered, but not for long. After her 18th birthday, Eden starts to put the pieces of her life of new and old together and breaks the chains of her imprisonment and the lives of those involved in her kidnapping start to fall apart.
I've really enjoyed all 4 episodes of the Water Walker stories, however; I'm a little disappointed with the finale. The writing is still great and the element of suspense is still there, but the ending left me unimpressed. I love a happy ending and I feel I got that from this story, but once I got over the hill of suspense I felt like the rest was kind of rushed. I understand it's a short story and some things are to be left to the imagination, but I'm left feeling incomplete. I have so many questions. Perhaps that's what the author was going for was leaving a little mystery behind even in the closing. This was the first I've read anything by Dekker, and I believe I will check out other things from him despite my issue with the ending of the story. Over all a good mystery that doesn't require a big commitment if you're rushed and on the go a lot.
I received this (the full book) from Worthy Publishing via NetGalley. Water Walker published by Worthy Publishing by Ted Dekker In traditional Dekker fashion Water Walker has suspense mixed with a troubled faith--in this case a very twisted faith. Trust and forgiveness is key in this book. Once it gets to that point. I always love the impacting moments in the books. They make my heart pound. There are parts in this book that made me so mad, simply because of the way the characters are. I get mad about real people that act the way they did. My legs ached when Kathryn was trying to break Eden's leg. And the rest of the pain inflicted made me squirm.
Peace and forgiveness. Letting go of hate and troubles.
It shows how people justify their wrong doings. How we think what we do is right but it's not always what's best or what God wants. We can't hold on to the things people do to us. They do nothing. Our bodies are our costumes...simply our bodies for a short while.
We have to learn to trust and have faith. Let go of everything. Step out of the boat. Jika, jika, jawa!

Water Walker comes in 4 separate books, but it does actually have the full novel that contains all 4 "episodes", which is what I read.
I haven't been reading Ted Dekker very long, but have come to really appreciate his books. They are filled with supernatural, mystery, action and hope. I always love the spiritual part of all these books.
Alice Ringwald, is thirteen and has no memory beyond six months ago. The only life she knows is the with the loving couple that recently adopted her. Then one day, Wyatt comes to the door and announces to Alice, that she is not Alice, but Eden and her Mother has been looking for her to all of her thirteen years.
What follows is a story of how Alice (Eden) is treated by her Mother when she is taken to her home. Alice's Mother is completely taken in by a man name Zeke and anything he asks of her she will do, along with endangering her children.
This is a great book that will make you think and fill you with hope that we can overcome!
It was okay. Not worth the money. At times, it was interesting but fell flat at the end. Too much tie-in to other Ted Dekker books. Was hoping for something more stand-alone and more action paced as promised. Nothing much happened in four books. Lazy writing, interesting premise, and poor execution. Definitely won't fall for the Ted Dekker episodic books in the future.
Must read all 4 episodes! It is sort of a Christian thriller, but even if you aren't religious I highly recommend reading this. It doesn't give the vibe of being a Christian book until near the last episode anyway. It keeps you on edge and really wanting to turn every page. It's sort of weird and makes you think.. "What the heck?!" I think that's why I continued to read it.
I liked this whole series although, I felt that this last book in the series was a bit rushed. I would've liked to have it go in to more detail about the compound that Zeke ran and more of what happened to all the characters.
I read all four of the episodes as a novel. It kept me wanting to read more, but I didn't really feel it was as well written as say Jojo Moyes book Me Before You which I have just recently finished.
Such a wonderful ending and conclusion to this novel! Ted Dekker never disappoints me. I loved taking the ride through this series, and I can't wait for the next ones.
