Love the whole premise of this book. Possibly my favorite apologetics book since reading mama bear apologetics a few years ago. Which is honestly not surprising because the author, Lindsey Medenwaldt, is, or was, on the mama bear apologetics team. In this book, Medenwaldt is speaking to the importance of building relationships over demolishing arguments or tearing down people.
One of my favorite quotes from the book states:
“One simple way to make friends is to step outside of your echo chamber… I’m not saying that you shouldn’t have friends who are like you, but I agree with the old proverb that “variety is the spice of life”. Here’s why: it is easy to believe the rest of the world agrees with you and that your opinion is always correct if you’ve put yourself in an echo chamber. This is true for both online and in real life. Psychologist Chris Crandall says it is beneficial to be lovingly challenged. Friends are for comfort, taking it easy, relaxing, not being challenged. And that’s a good thing! But you can’t have only that need. You also need new ideas, people to correct you when you’re looney. If you hang out with only people who are looney like you, you can be out of touch with the big, beautiful, diverse world.”
I cannot agree with this statement enough and will encourage people to frequently get out of their comfort bubble. Apologetics is the defense of your faith, that is being able to give a reason for why you believe what you do to be true. This book gives valuable reasoning and tools to help you engage with those who do not hold the same beliefs in a way that leads to friendship or stronger relationships than to be further divided. A wonderful resource for Christians, or even nonchristians who want to engage with Christians.
