Dakota Montgomery knew she should have steered clear of The Savage Wolves Brotherhood. Now with a promising start to her career, the vow she made twelve years ago to keep her distance remains stronger than ever. But when her best friend suspiciously disappears, and her father dismisses her concerns, Dakota is forced to seek help from the vigilante motorcycle club and its her former flame, Callum Reynolds.
Callum Reynolds, still bearing the scars of nine wrongful years in prison, has his own reasons to assist Dakota Montgomery. A feud for territory with the club's rival has caused a severe the loss of their distillation warehouse. With Dakota's Alchemist skills, there's a chance to restore the stock before the Vanguard Syndicate comes to collect. In return, Callum pledges to use his network to investigate the disappearance of her best friend. However, any connection with Dakota or her Iron Guard father could jeopardize his hard-earned freedom.
The agreement with the Brotherhood thrusts Dakota into a treacherous underworld, where illicit alchemy and experimental magic fuels a dangerous game of depravity and addiction. Dakota must race against time to unravel the mystery of her best friend's disappearance before it consumes her entirely--or worse, entangles her with Callum Reynolds and the Brotherhood for good.
Set in a modern-day world where the blood of banished gods advances the creation of distillations, Sons of Anarchy meets occult science in this second-chance adult fantasy romance.
This was my first Sadie Hewitt book but it won’t be the last. This was pitched as Sons of Anarchy with occult science and it certainly delivered the premise of that. I fear this book might have allured me towards the intrigue of MC romances now😅 The alchemy/magic system based on the blood of banished gods was so cool and the urban fantasy world was introduced quite well.
I loved the second-chance romance and seeing Dakota and Callum fall harder for each other again. The angst was so delicious and it would’ve been more emotional if there were flashbacks to their relationship before everything happened. I so badly need to read the letters they wrote to each other❤️🩹 I really liked Dakota as a character and loved that she’s an alchemist who doesn’t give a damn because I was constantly rooting for her. She was well written and matched Callum well, even though they are so different in their backgrounds. I loved how Callum has been so gone for this woman since day 1 and, as he literally says, has been in love with her for than half of his life🥹
“No, you need to understand me. In every avenue life took me, it was always to get back to you. It was always you. There is no me if I don’t have you”
“You were nothing but my fucking foundation when the world came down around me.”
“She didn’t know when the exact moment was, it was impossible to pin down. One day, she woke up and realized her heart belonged to him more than it belonged to her. And in their twelve years apart, she had never gotten it back”
I also enjoyed the friendships, side characters, and would love to see more of them too! Ace, Finn, and Thalia were really interesting and I wonder how they’ll play their roles in the rest of the series too👀 There were also some hilarious moments with worthy scenes and one-liners that had me cackling.
Not to mention that the plot was intriguing and the reveals had me hooked with the corruption and conflicts in the hierarchy! But that ending was diabolical, especially with the wait for the next book😭 A few things that I’m hoping for next is more depth to the worldbuilding, more lore of the banished gods, and smoother pacing because the resolution of few plot points felt abrupt to me. Other than that, I am definitely looking forward to Book 2 and am glad that this is a trilogy.
Many thanks to the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review❤️
This story is marketed heavily as a fantasy romance and to me it severely lacked on both accounts. This would’ve read much more effectively as a contemporary romance with a little more romance. At 55% there was still no romance and barely any tension to keep it going.
It also felt like there were a lot of unnecessary descriptions of everything around them and it took from the flow of the story for me.
There were also A LOT of characters that were hard to keep track of and none felt like they really stuck out except for the two main characters.
I deeply wanted to like this book and was intrigued by the concept but it missed the mark for me.
Thank you Nerd Fam for an opportunity to read this ARC.
4.5 stars!! Lucky enough to get a copy of the ARC of Vice and Void and ohhhhh brother(hood), did it deliver. This book has got a lot going for it! Urban setting with a twist of Gods and magic, it’s got a nice slow burn and plenty of action and edge of seat suspense. There are surprises along the way, and the ending…. Yikes. Keeping this review spoiler free - but wow, the ending. I honestly thought this was a stand alone book, but there’s no way that’s true with the cliffhangers we get dealt.
I will definitely read book two and will happily buy the hardback of this when it comes out! I recommend this book to anyone that’s in a Romantasy reading slump or maybe getting a little tired of fae royalty getting all the attention. It’s been years since i watched Sons of Anarchy- but i absolutely heard Jax in my head at times when I was reading this. 🤤 makes me want to watch old episodes.
I would have given it 5 full stars but the first half was a little slow for me (maybe it was just me transitioning to urban fantasy again) and there are some odd descriptive sections that threw the flow and tension off for me. A scene would have stayed more intense and riveting if we hadn’t gotten stuck overly describing the weather or the puddles or the strange smells of the space. It seemed out of place at times, even though I really like a scene being set… it was really about the timing for me. I want the descriptions to enhance the scene, but I don’t want them to detract from the characters. Loved 95% of this book tho! So good
An urban setting with a twist of Gods and magic??!! Sign me up.
This was amazing! The plot was so good and I did not see the twists and turns coming! There is so much action, suspense, with the addition of a slow burn second chance romance. The first half of the book was slightly slow in my opinion but the second half of the book absolutely made up for that!
I absolutely loved the main characters as well as some of the side character (some pissed me off but i think they were supposed to do that haha.) I also felt bad for some characters because they were so lost and i hope they find their spotligt in the future book.
The cliffhanger in the end??! I need book 2 like asap! This was definitely a nice chance from the usual romantasy books I read and this book absolutely deserves a lot of hype and I hope it receives just that once its out!
Thank you for the Author Sadie Hewitt for sending me an advanced reader copy in exchange of an honest review.
The last 30% was 5 stars to me. The way the plot came together and all of the secrets, suspense, and plot twists at the end! Gasp, I need to know what happens next.
Second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes. I loved Callum and Dakota’s story.
I was kind of confused when it came to some of the parts with her experiments and the void. It took a while for it to make more sense to me.
✨ Motorcycle Club ✨ Second Chance Romance ✨ Alchemy ✨ Blood Magic ✨ Suspense ✨ Secrets
“She was an addiction, something that eased the tension in his chest and cooled the inferno of agitation that always threatened to burn him to ashes.”
“He was willing to burn if she was the one holding the flame.”
“he held onto that secret like it was the air he breathed. Because she was the air that he breathed.”
“It was her. It was him. It was them. And he was going to make damn sure it would be forever.”
“he realized that he had gone twelve years walking around as a dead man. And she brought him back to life.”
“She needed Callum Reynolds as if he were the only thing on the planet that could breathe life back into her. And perhaps he was.”

✨ My thoughts: Whatever Sadie writes: I'll read it! And of course I wasn't disappointed at all. This book kept me up until 2 in the morning one night because I simply couldn't put it down. The pace is fast but not overwhelming, the action packed scenes are so thrilling and the world building is put in a way super clear and nice to understand. I loved the ''teenager's love'' coming back with full force after so many years and them finding out they loved each other all this time and after so long... I don't like 2nd chance romances but this one I LOVED it. The letter scene under the bridge with pouring rain? JUST PERFECT WRITTING! Romance and spicy were AMAZING and BLAZIN' (tattooed, ex con, motorcycled MMC? YES PLEASE) the family/friends bonds were so beautiful to keep up and the overall story is so new and fresh (the magical elements are so interesting) I loved every minute of it!
This is an incredible fusion of motorcycle romance with a little bit of urban fantasy, delivering a wild ride filled with morally gray characters, illegal magical alchemy, and a DEEPLY charged second-chance romance. Fans of either genre will find plenty to sink their teeth into, but the real magic lies in how seamlessly Hewitt blends the two into something fresh and exciting. Oh Sadie, I will read anything you write.
Dakota, a fiercely determined protagonist with complex family dynamics, reluctant teams up with The Savage Wolves Brotherhood to search for her missing best friend. Her history with Callum, the brooding second-in-command and her former flame with a tragic past, injects an undeniable tension into every. single. interaction. Their relationship is beautifully complex—filled with unresolved feelings, yearning, history, and the kind of chemistry that keeps you hooked. Callum is the perfect mix of danger and vulnerability, and watching these two navigate their shared history while battling external threats was a rollercoaster. You know where things will end up. THEY know where things will end up. But the yearnful journey is just chef's kiss.
The world-building is equally impressive, with Hewitt’s take on alchemy and experimental magic weaving seamlessly into the gritty underworld of rival motorcycle clubs. The high stakes—both personal and magical—create a relentless pace that kept me turning the pages. The darker elements, from addiction to corruption, give the story a raw edge reminiscent of Sons of Anarchy, while the alchemical elements add a fantastical twist that will appeal to fans of books like House of Bane and Blood by Alexis L. Menard.
Beyond the thrilling plot and addictive romance, there’s a strong thread of mental health representation that gives the story additional depth. Hewitt doesn’t shy away from exploring the scars—both physical and emotional—left on her characters, which makes their struggles and triumphs feel all the more real.
In true Hewitt fashion, Vice and Void is a compulsively readable story that I devoured in one sitting. It’s gritty, surprisingly heartfelt, and full of twists that will keep you guessing. If you’re a fan of urban fantasy with a dash of romance—or vice versa—you won’t want to miss this one. A fantastic entry into a new genre blend for Hewitt, and I can’t wait to see where this goes!
Thanks so much to the amazing author for the complimentary copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
thank you to netgalley and victory editing for sending me this ARC for an honest review.
3.75 stars
the concept of this book sounded right up my alley: second chance love, alchemist/blood magic, political corruption, bad ass motorcycle gang. unfortunately this book fell a flat for me as i felt like it all felt a bit half baked. i wanted to like the magic system, but i didn’t feel like the backstory with the “banished gods” was explained enough to understand how it even worked. adding the motorcycle gang element into it just made it feel like this story was two different books being forced into one, and it didn’t mesh for me. i feel like if this was a contemporary romance with a motorcycle gang leader who was dating a doctor OR if it had focused on the alchemists/gods/distills while introducing a second chance lover who had inconsequential involvement outside of a side plot of romance, the author would of had a lot more time to develop the characters and really focus on the story instead of trying to explain how these two things actually go together. admittedly, i don’t usually vibe too hard with urban fantasy though, so that could have been the missing thread for me there.
i was very happy to see that the main characters were actual ADULTS for once instead of lame teenagers. this made the plot a lot more engaging as they are both around my age, so i could relate to a lot of their feelings and headspace. this also meant that the characters made (mostly) mature and thought out decisions, which was definitely a breath of fresh air.
the last 35% of the story really saved this book. there were so many things happening in the first bit that i kind of felt like i was drowning in subplots and side characters. once i got a grasp of who everyone was and which part of the story line they played a part in, i started to get into it. sometimes less is more, and trying to over commit to plot twists just convolutes the story instead of creating shock and awe. these characters stories are definitely unique, but i kind of ended up asking myself if some of it was really necessary to add outside of just deepening the layers drama instead of adding to the plot?
ultimately i did really enjoy the end of this book, and i will likely read the second one. i’m invested in callum and dakota’s love story, and want to see how the gang is able to clear callum’s name.
It’s been ten years since Dakota and Callum broke each other’s hearts. The daughter of a prominent government official, Dakota has become an alchemist in a world where the blood of banished gods holds great power. After serving ten years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, Callum now serves as the Vice of a motorcycle gang facing police scrutiny. As Dakota is drawn into a dangerous conspiracy and Callum searches for a new alchemist, the two are each other’s best bet at staying alive. But as new and old foes emerge from the shadows, the sparks between them reignite and they are left to wonder if their love may be the very thing that destroys them.
Vice and Void by Sadie Hewitt is one of the first second chance romances that I actually enjoyed. The author does an incredible job at crafting characters who seem real and placing them in a relationship that feels genuine despite the urban fantasy setting. I rooted for Callum and Dakota even when they hurt each other (especially when they hurt each other) because the author did an incredible job at making the dynamic real.
The urban fantasy setting was grounded enough in reality to feel familiar with a unique twist that still drew readers into another world. I loved the subtle ways the author built tension in the world itself, and I look forward to see how that tension explodes into conflict in later books. Speaking of conflict, the novel had a perfect balance of internal and external conflict. I am definitely a romance reader, but even I appreciated that the external plot was just as interesting as the character dynamics.
The side characters weren’t quite as well developed as our main couple, but they fulfilled their roles perfectly and weren’t interchangeable. My only issue with the novel is that it kept building and building to a moment of confrontation, only to skip the actual confrontation. I understand that it’s necessary to set things up for a sequel, but there can still be a climax in the first book. That being said, I definitely still recommended Vice and Void!
Read if you like… 🧪A unique urban fantasy setting filled with class conflict 🏍 Second chance/enemies-to-lovers romance 🌙I hate that I still have feelings for you 🧪Touch her and you die 🏍 He falls first (again) and harder 🌙A friend group that will do anything for each other 🧪Daddy issues (Or “complex family dynamics” for the sophisticated reader) 🏍 SLOWburn with a payoff worth the weight ;) 🌙A FMC in magical STEM 🧪Banished gods that are just starting to wake up 🏍 Dialogue that feels like it should be on Gilmore Girls (there is no higher compliment) 🌙 Forbidden love because our families are keeping us apart *dramatic sigh*
An e-ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions remain my own.
Twelve years ago, Dakota left town to pursue her studies, leaving her heartbreak and any ties of the Brotherhood behind. After her best friend goes missing without a trace nor any leads with the Iron Guard, she turns to her former high school sweetheart Callum, who was wrongfully imprisoned for 9 years and now serves as second-in-command of the Brotherhood.
Both of their lives were irrevocably changed the day he was charged, but some things never did. As painful memories resurface and dangerous secrets unravel, loyalties and morals are put to the test. How far are they willing to go to save those they love?
Tropes: 👀 Dual POV 💕 Second chance romance ✨ Banished gods 🦹🏻♂️ Vigilante 🏍️ clubs 🏍️ Sons of Anarchy meets Occult Science 🩸 Blood magic 🚫 Touch her & 💀 🗣️ Banter 🌶️ : Moderate - High
“𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥, 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴.”
As daughter of the Head Ranger of the Iron Guard, Dakota should stay far away from the notorious vigilante biker gang. The talented alchemist has no choice but to turn to Callum and his resources to find her best friend before it’s too late. Both become entangled in dangerous magic and even more dangerous secrets and bargains.
As long-buried feelings burst to the surface, Dakota and Callum’s chemistry was absolutely electric! Their relationship was such a gut punch- the emotional and physical scars they bear, the heartache of all that’s transpired between them, and all that’s left unsaid.
Sadie creates an exceptional world teeming with veiled vigilantism, underpinnings of government corruption, and a masterful blending of occult science and magic. But what was even more compelling to me was the lengths these MCs will go to protect those they love and their willingness to sacrifice for each other.
Dark and gripping, Vice and Void is a captivating second chance romance with star crossed lovers and a thrilling ride from start to finish! After that cliffhanger ending, I’m eagerly awaiting the next book! 😭
Huge thanks to the author for the ARC opportunity. This is my honest and voluntary review
*Thank you author Sadie Hewitt for the e-arc!!!* ❤️
WOWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Y’all. Y’ALLLLLL!!!!!! Second chance romance. Evil gods. Urban fantasy (but it’s done WELL), sexy morally grey MMC who leads a biker gang and has tons of tattoos, ONE BED IN A HOTEL ROOM, FMC and MMC have each others initials tattooed on them 🤭, funny side characters, witty banter, THE SPICE??? Phenomenal and perfectly executed. Need I go on??
I literally loved this book so so freaking much. I always get so excited when I read an ARC that gets me this hype. I had a blast reading this book, you guys. It had the PERFECT mixture of every single thing I love in a book. I was laughing, tearing up, giggling, on the edge of my seat, etc. etc. etc. it had it all.
Vice and Void releases NOVEMBER 19th and you all should absolutely pick it up. You will absolutely fall in love with Dakota, Callum, and the world they are set in. Highly highly recommend !!!! 😍🤭🫶🏻📚
This was my first Sadie Hewitt book and I can't wait to read more of her work! I could not put this book down.
If you ever wished Sons of Anarchy was set in an urban fantasy world with Banished Gods and unique alchemy/magic, then this book is definitely for you. The action, the suspense, the drama, the mystery, the romance - everything was so enticing and intriguing. The main and supporting characters are all great. They all just fit so well together in this book. Sadie had me loving most characters, hating a lot of other characters, and feeling sorry for some, which was probably her intention. And the ending - I don't want to spoil anything, but wow that ending has me impatiently waiting for the next book! I need to know what happens next.
I was lucky enough to get an eARC of this book, but I look forward to buying a physical copy when it releases. It belongs on my physical bookshelf. Definitely read this if you love biker clubs, alchemy/magic, urban fantasy, intense drama, and second chance romances.
I was sold when I saw this was marketed as "Sons of Anarchy with occult science", that statement is 100% true. I ate the story up even though I had a suspicion the cliffhanger was going to be a killer. (it definitely was)
I love the alchemy and magic system and how it paired up with the motorcycle vibe. I loved the main characters, their dynamic paired with their history and secrets. The side characters are perfect too...well, some of them have issues that make me want to shake them.

“I’ve killed dozens, maybe even hundreds. I don’t even fucking know anymore. And I would do it again in a heartbeat. I would claw my way from the bottom of that fucking pile if it meant getting back to you.”
Favorite Quote: That was my fucking kid, John. My fucking woman—“
I am going to be extremely honest. I was confused as heck for about half of this book. I kept thinking sons of anarchy with a fantasy twist is such a unique and odd combination that should not work together. But I couldn't stop reading. I was so wrapped up in this book, at the edge of my seat, trying to wrap my head around what the heck was going on.
My conclusion, this author is a fucking genius. I was so very very wrong. Sons of anarchy with a fantasy twist DOES work IF written correctly and that is exactly what this book is.
The characters, main and side perfection. So likeable, so relatable (even the fucked ups ones like Ace).
The plot, perfection. Seriously this had my attention from start to finish and I am anxious for more.
The twist and turns, perfection. At no point in this book did I know what to expect next or what was coming.
This book.. istg I didn't expect liking it so much, but here we are. It's an urban fantasy with magic, dead God's (or are they?), healer and killer dynamic, slow burn, angst, and spice. Also, it's dual POV, so we get to hear both characters pining and suffering (and in the throws of pleasure after 12 years of pent-up frustration🫢)
It is a bit slow in the beginning, and I honestly thought of stopping before the 20% mark. I am so glad I didn't do that! Once you get past the present day setting of where the characters are now.. it gets so good. The slow burn of the 2 main characters getting back together and the longing, omg the longing and the tension and the "let's fight because we can't fuck" scenes... so good.
Also, I liked that Dakota had a backbone and chose to stand up for herself and yet still need her friends, old or new, and fight for them and their support. Spoiler: she was a bit stoopid at times, her choices enraged me when she didn't fucking listen. All she had to do was listen. But did she? NoOooO. Of course not. 😤
Callum was such a sweetheart when he had all the feels in the world and wasn't being a prick on purpose. His relationship with the other characters is also interesting to watch as it deteriorates more than grow 😂 but, oh well, it did bring a lot of twists in the plot.
I mean Twists. Several. Which I did not see coming. Why? Because I was too caught up in the story to think about what was going to happen next. It was a very pleasurable experience. Almost as much as it was for Dakota to be splayed on the table and eate..🫢🫢 i will say no more about that.
I don't know if it was fortunate or unfortunate for me to receive this ARC because I have to wait so much for the second book now 😭 and I need to know what happens like yesterday.
Vice and Void by Sadie Hewitt is the first book in The Savage Wolves Brotherhood series. This book was good. I thought the plot was interesting. I however had a tough time liking the main characters. I also thought the world was a lot to get my head around it. Other than those two things, I did enjoy the story. I do have to say this is a unique storyline which I enjoyed. This did end on a cliffhanger. I am curious to see what will happen in future books in this series. This was not 100% for me but I still recommend it if the tropes and blurb pique your interest!
📚 Vice and Void is available now for pre-order!
🗓️ This book will be released on November 19th, 2024
Tropes: Second chance Motorcycle club Alchemy Distill and Blood magic Morally grey mmc Banished gods
I'm not sure why I originally thought Vice & Void was a werewolf story. It is not lol. What it is though, is Sons of Anarchy meets Mayans meets occult magic and it was amazing!
I never thought I'd say Sons of Anarchy and magic in a sentence together, but here we are! I'm 100% obsessed with this story. In this modern world, the gods have been banished after spilling blood in war. Where they have spilt blood, plants have grown there now- and distills (think like a potion used as medicine) are able to be created to help people medically- and as drug uses.
But.. some people are now being born with magic in their blood.
FMC Dakota is working to be an alchemist. Which is like a doctor who also creates the Distills too. She's back in town... one she left years ago after her boyfriend ended up in prison.
MMC Callum is a member of the Savage Wolves Brotherhood MMC. He's been released from prison and thrown himself into the club.
But twists, turns, fate, and everything else will force these two to cross paths again.
I loved this book. The spice was great and so was the burn to get there. But the storyline was so much more than just a Love story. There's intrique, scandal, murder, Kidnapping, politics, etc. I loved both the main characters and how it wasn't just a oh I missed you thing. There was tension and hate between these two is found sexy.
The side characters like Lyra and Kane are great too. But that cliffhanger! Omg I'm stressed out and need more!!!!
“Magic requires sacrifice.” “So we’re on the same page… you rode all the way over here, to my side of town, to tell me to stay here on my side of town.” “Things don’t change. And people don’t change.” “Even if you were right, why would you care? Why do you even fucking care?”
I liked Dakota as a main character. Her work as an alchemist was interesting, and she seemed like a strong character.
I’m usually not a huge fan of second-chance romance, but it worked well for the plot and I loved the slow burn between Dakota and Callum. I would love to learn more about their shared past and maybe see some flashbacks about their past relationship.
I enjoyed the strong friendships between characters, and there were multiple interesting side characters I would love to learn more about.
The magic/alchemy system was unique. I loved learning more about it throughout the book, and can’t wait to learn more in the coming books.
The plot itself was intriguing and kept me hooked. It took me a while to get fully immersed in the story, but when I did, I couldn’t put the book down. There was a lot going on and I never knew what was going to happen next. In the future books I would love to see a bit more world-building.
The book is written in 3rd person which took a little while getting used to after reading mostly 1st person.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
Alright, y’all, let me set the scene: 🚨 Stolen blood magic. 🏍️ Motorcycle club full of vigilante bad boys. ✨ Banished gods + forbidden alchemy. 💔 A second-chance romance 12 YEARS in the making... AND he has her name tattooed on him. (YES PLEASE) 😮💨
Dakota thought she could leave the past (and Callum) behind, but plot twist—her BFF goes missing, the Savage Wolves need a temporary alchemist, and who’s the Vice Prez of this hot mess? CAL. 🤤
Cue the sparks. The tension. The “touch her and 💀” vibes.
🔥These two ex-lovers are oil and fire, and when they collide, you can feel it.
The grudges? Massive. The chemistry? EXPLOSIVE.
And don’t even get me started on Callum—tattooed, broody, and protective as hell. 😏
The world-building is INSANE. Blood magic? Gods? Motorcycle club politics?
Sign me UP. It’s “Sons of Anarchy” meets magical STEM with the perfect balance of action, angst, and 🔥 slow-burn romance. BUT THAT CLIFFHANGER?! Screams in alchemist rage. I need book two like YESTERDAY.
Read this if you’re into: ✔️ Vigilante bikers who’d burn the world for their girl. ✔️ Tension so thick you need a machete. ✔️ Urban fantasy that’s edgy AF. ✔️ “Enemies-to-lovers-to-IDK-let’s-make-out” vibes.
Let’s just say my new toxic trait is falling for Callum Reynolds.✋🏼 Add this to your TBR or we can’t be friends.😘
- Ruthless Boys series (MMC screams Ryder) - Capulet/Montague (think West Side Story with motorbikes) vibes - Revenge plots - Morally grey male leads - Dual POVs - Spice rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review! I enjoyed this book, especially the interesting magic system. While I found the some of the plot somewhat predictable, I’m still eager to see where the series goes next.
The story centers on two protagonists from vastly different worlds who reconnect 12 years after dating. Callum, now second in command in a motorcycle gang, crosses paths with Dakota, a highly respected alchemist, when her best friend goes missing, sparking their reconnection.
The pacing in the first half of the book is slower, but it picks up around Chapter 15. My favorite part was the blood magic which was introduced gradually, it felt fresh and intriguing, and I hope it takes on an even larger role in book two! I also appreciated how the book touches on themes like mental health, addiction, stalking, and found family, which added depth and made the characters feel more relatable.
Overall: The mix of an urban setting with a dark magic system created an engaging contrast. I think highlighting the magic system earlier and in more depth would have made this a 5 star read for me, but I’m excited for book two now that the world building groundwork is laid!
I was so behind on ARCs this year, but thank you Sadie for still sending me one!!
Vice and Void feels very original and ambitious - Urban Fantasy meets Contemporary Romance. There were times that those 2 things felt a little disconnected, but they came together as the layers of science and fantasy intertwined and balanced each other out.
Sadie also upped her spice game for this book and I have no complaints.🔥👌🏻
Despite my initial hesitation with some of the urban Fantasy elements, I ended up fully interested in the health/magic system Sadie created for this world and I will absolutely be reading the next installment.
I should also note that the ARC was a bit longer than the official publication, so I believe some of the things that gave me pause were ironed out and more concisely explained during the final round of edits.
Congratulations on another successful book, Sadie! Your ideas are so original and your writing is more polished with each publication. Keep them coming 💖💖💖
I love a good MC book and this books was so much more than just that and I enjoyed the different world building and plot. I loved the main characters and the side characters. There is just a lot going on but also sometimes not enough? Idk hard to explain. I'll definitely read the next in the series when it comes out and sad I have to wait so long to see what happens becauae Im so invested in Callum and Dakota and even Rocco, Thalia and Lyra!
Its a second chance, lovers to enemies to lovers again, modern day political? with blood magic, morally grey MMC, lots of angst, slow burn and ends with a cliff hanger. I really want the HEA for everyone!! Seems like its going to take a lot to get there though.
Definitely 100% check trigger warnings because this book does contain some potentially serious ones and in writing for example suicide and loss of baby.
So, I'm going to curl into a ball and stare at my wall after that ending. I don't know what I was expecting, but it far exceeded any expectation. Sadie said MC romance with a si-fi twist, and that is exactly what she delivered. I could not put it down. I stopped my current ARC to read this one, and I have absolutely zero regrets.
“No, you need to understand me. In every avenue life took me, it was always to get back to you. It was always you. There is no me if I don’t have you.”
Second chance Banished Gods Touch her and 💀 Alchemy Dystopian Who did this to you?
I absolutely loved how "bad" Callum was, but absolutely died at how hard he loved when it came to Dakota. So many secrets are brought to light, unexpected alliances are formed near the end of the book, some pretty juicy plot twists, and a to-die-for cliffhanger.
Okay I was given this ARC and hear me out I LOVED THIS BOOK
-blood magic -touch her and you 💀 -urban fantasy -banished gods -second chance -motorcycle environment -brotherhood -he has her tattooed in his skin -alchemist/science
Like please I was hooked from day one and it was sooooo good. I love Callum from start to finish. They were lovers in their teens, twelve years later fate decided it was time again for them to be together. She works as a healer on her way to become an alchemist and he is the second in command in his bike club. Even when they want to be apart from each other they can’t. They got a deal after one of the side characters disappearance and everything gets wild after that. So many lies uncovered, evil plans being revealed while they have to salvage what they love and care The plot kept me reading and as you keep reading you get why the book is called the vice abs the void. It took me a while to decipher it but oh god
This books end with a cliffhanger and I screamed so much because I’d not even released yet and I need book 2 😭😭
I have yet to meet a Sadie Hewitt book I don’t like, this one is no exception. Truly I would read her grocery list at this point, she’s an incredibly talented author.
I love a good urban fantasy and this is definitely one. The characters are complex and easy to invest in. They’re in the 30s and feel like adults. The MMC is actually morally gray. The pacing was great and kept me hooked. The story is original and feels like a breath of fresh air with so many of the same tropes circling around Romantasy right now. There were thrilling plot twists and drama that kept me up late reading. I was genuinely distraught when I got to the end because I didn’t want to stop. I cannot wait for book 2!
Vice & Void was just 👏🏻 so 👏🏻 so 👏🏻 good!! I’ve loved everything Sadie has written so far but this one is at the top of my favourites list!
Callum bends over backwards as Vice of the Savage Wolves Brotherhood and my heart broke for him a little bit as he’s pulled in all kinds of directions. In order to save her friend, Dakota inserts herself back in Callum’s life. It’s enemies to friends to lovers with action, suspense, and heartbreak mixed in. If these two don’t get the HEA they deserve, I will riot!
✨ Not your typical urban fantasy romance ✨ Bike Gang ✨ Action & Suspense ✨ The most loyal BFFs ✨ Slow Burn ✨ Second Chance Romance ✨ Forbidden Love ✨ Gods & Blood Magic
Really enjoyed this! I was a huge fan of “Sons of Anarchy”, and the similarities are definitely plentiful, but not in a rip-off kind of way. Let me also say, I’m a 40 year old, straight dude that loves these fantasy books. I don’t care for the spice, but a lot of these books have really entertaining plots…this is one of those books!
Dakota Montgomery is an alchemist in training, who also has ties to a motorcycle club, and their second-in-command, Callum Reynolds. They share a heavy past, and the events towards the beginning of the book bring them crashing back together.
I’ve never been a huge fan of magic/fantasy stuff in a modern setting, but it works so well here. The distills that are made are used for various things…blood replenishment, pain relief, and euphoria. Brewing these on your own is highly illegal, so of course our main character just has to dabble in that!
This book does end on a major cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to read more about these characters and their world!
Urban fantasy with a twist of gods, magic, and an intense slow-burn, second-chance romance—Vice and Void by Sadie Hewitt delivered on every front! The plot twists were impossible to predict, and the action was perfectly balanced with suspense, keeping me hooked all the way through. Also, it took me sooooo embarrassing long to realize what the title meant and when it did I had a Sheldon moment…. “Why?!?” “Oh that’s why…” 😂🤭
There were a few points in the beginning where the pacing felt slow, but overall, I loved it and the build up was worth it!
And that cliffhanger?! 🫠 I need book two, now! If you’re ready for a fresh take on romantasy that leaves traditional fae royalty behind, Vice and Void deserves a spot on your TBR.
Thank you Sadie Hewitt for sending me this ARC copy! 💜
This was something very different. It's a mix of gangs, alchemy and the occult in an urban fantasy setting. There's an intense second chance slow burn romance between Dakota and Callum, a unique magic system using alchemy in sci-fi occult style potion making, and tons of drama. It definitely had a sons of anarchy vibe with betrayals, violence, cover ups, crime, corruption and rivalries. There is a lot going on with searches for missing persons, uncovering illegal experiments, blackmail and schemes for their alchemy abilities, and intriguing worldbuilding including God's and magic. It's very fast paced in the final chapters building to the suspenseful ending, and I'm definitely intrigued to read more.
