“Long Branch: Never Let the Truth Stand in the Way of a Good Story” by Dan Ramm is a captivating novel that follows the journey of Mason Powell, a famous actor who is down on his luck and unwittingly gets caught in a web of conspiracies. After finding himself suddenly unemployed and unexpectedly broke, Mason travels home to Georgia to fix up and sell his mother’s house. What should have been a routine trip ends with Mason being surrounded by mystery, unanswered questions, and a complete change for his future.

Ramm does an excellent job writing a complex and engaging plot that keeps you guessing until the end. The characters, with their relatable struggles and triumphs, are well-developed. Ramm’s skillful descriptions make it easy to identify his characters as if they were real people. Readers will find the small-town characters they meet throughout the story to be interesting and relevant, adding depth to the story and helping the reader appreciate what Mason’s hometown is like.

As the story progresses, Mason’s inner struggles and doubts become evident. His inner thoughts help readers relate to Mason and appreciate him as the protagonist. Ramm’s writing allows readers to feel as conflicted as Mason is, which is one of the reasons why this book is so enjoyable.

Ramm’s attention to detail in describing the settings is top-notch and never distracts the reader from the story. Ramm further enhances the story by weaving in snippets of Mason’s thoughts and experiences, helping the reader feel even more connected to the character. Mason’s dog, Kodak, offers moments of humor and levity throughout the story.

One of the strengths of this novel is the way it explores the theme of truth and what some people will do to obscure it. As Mason wrestles with his desire to learn the truth, he is forced to consider the possibility of a conspiracy. As he works to unravel a mystery, Mason questions who he can trust, and the reader is left to question what is real and what is merely a façade. The author’s masterful way of building tension throughout the story forces readers to continue turning the pages. It makes this book enjoyable, and the reader is eager to solve the mystery.

The story has several twists, and when you feel sure you guessed the story’s direction, you’re surprised. These surprises help keep your attention and lend themselves to a satisfying read. Although unexpected, the ending will ultimately prove fulfilling for readers.

Dan Ramm’s “Long Branch” is a well-written and engaging novel that hooks readers until the end. The author’s ability to create a complex plot while maintaining a sense of relatability and authenticity is commendable. If you’re a fan of mystery and intrigue, this book is worth picking up. With its thought-provoking themes and memorable characters, “Long Branch” is a story that earns its place on your bookshelf.

4.5 stars! Quick read and I enjoyed the storyline. In terms of like relationships in books I’ve really only ever read about them from a woman’s perspective so it was kind of odd (NOT IN A BAD WAY) hearing about a budding relationship from a mans POV. Only other time I’ve read romance from a man’s POV was when I read the book Charm School which was a great book but the relationship part annoyed me and this one DIDN’T! Tied very nicely into the story
Also loved the ending minus ONE SAD PART but I guess it was a good sad ugh can’t wait for more from Mr. Ramm!!

Mason is a fading Hollywood star who decides to return to his hometown of Long Branch in Georgia in order to start his life over. While trying to refurbish his mother's home, he begins to dig into an old mystery which leads him into the rotten underbelly of the town. There's plenty of intrigue and suspense in this mystery which keeps the reader guessing along the way and engaged in the story.

Feel Good novel

Forget my skepticism. I didn’t like the endorsement of all the actors, but when the story got rolling, I had to see it to the end. Author Ramm shows his TV background but that’s not a bad thing; it proves he knows how to pace the material and make us love the characters. I am so glad there is a sequel. I wanted to know if a TV cowboy star could actually do the job. Pardon me while I go to search to find out.
