Komura’s attraction to Mie is now facing the pangs of jealousy as she talks to other guys. He need not worry, of course, because the clues are pretty obvious, just not to anybody in this manga.

Look. It’s the same thing as always. Even I’m not sure why I keep reading this sometimes, except that it’s criminally inoffensive despite its beyond stale premise and glacial pace.

As usual, Komura and Mie are very awkwardly attracted to one another and Mie is blind as a bat. Repeat for 150 pages. At least this time around Komura’s inadequacies don’t bring Mie to tears because he couldn’t act like a decent human being.

Credit where it is due, the chapter where Mie brings a pair of fake glasses instead of her actual ones actually has a very good punchline to it that I thought was pulled off very well.

The cooking class is also more fun because Komura is in a different group and going nuts thinking Mie is being charmed by another guy, when she’s actually being charmed hearing stories about Komura from that guy while she tries to make him cookies he’ll like. It’s surprisingly solid.

Also, as usually happens, Komura stops bottling it at the last second after spending an entire volume dithering (or series, if we’re being honest). Although his earlier comments on Mie’s new hair (especially during swim class) were a step up for him too.

I think part of why I keep going with this series is that it’s basically a manga saltine. It’s plain and innocuous and guaranteed to not be much of anything while not upsetting anything either. Which is probably why I went off on it last volume for being so dumb.

This is a story about young love and innocence and it is very, very much playing it entirely safe with that premise. It doesn’t have a mean or lecherous bone in its body, honestly. Even Komura’s dalliances at being hormonal are utterly chaste compared to most manga.

3 stars - this excels in exactly zero areas, but that is entirely possibly why I’m reading it at all, since it isn’t worth getting upset with either. I don’t dislike it and it typically offers a comforting sameness from volume to volume.

Her saying she wants to marry her dad as a little kid: cute. Her comparing the boy she likes to her dad: weird

Each volume of this manga reveals a new, slightly different, slightly more awkward chapter in Komura and Mie's relationship. In THE GIRL I LIKE FORGOT HER GLASSES v6, the characters look to the future, albeit with occasional and accidental glimpses of the past as a guide. Kids on the precipice of adulthood tend to view the future in terms that are more finite than reality logically permits. But every once in a while, one stumbles into a presumption of good fortune that truly warms the heart.

The current volume also explores two wily contradictions: (1) the tendency of Komura and Mie's classmates to egg them on into confessing to one another (or in the least, expressing their affections more outwardly), and (2) the perilous likelihood that as they mature and grow older, the two may grow apart, as happens with most childhood friendships.

Of the first, spending afternoons together, walking home from school (in the rain), and making baked snacks for one another constitute delightful accents to an otherwise benign partnership. But sometimes, Mie's friends will do up her hair (and Mie will get adorably pissed off when she has to put on a swim cap for gym class). Sometimes, Mie will find an excuse to take a selfie with Komura, all disheveled and out of sorts (and promise him not to tell anybody she took the picture).

Of the latter, the school day goes by fast, and it's easy for Komura to overlook the fact that once his ephemeral youth disappears, so too will many of his relationships. When Mie runs into an old classmate, and the girl flatly acknowledges that she has no recollection of who the guy is, Komura ponders (worries) that perhaps all relationships are liable to being forgotten. Indeed, how does one make oneself memorable to someone else?

THE GIRL I LIKE FORGOT HER GLASSES v6 does query whether Mie will suddenly become her own person when she stops relying on others to help her see the world around her. But more prescient and more intriguing is the conversation surrounding whether the help offer by others will ever lose its relevance. In other words, once Mie truly becomes her own person, will she possess any need to sneak close glances of the faces of others?

Incredibly cute progression forward as Komura & Mie spend more time together & prove they really like each other… without ever still fully admitting it to one another.

My favourite story was Mie making the coin-shaped token cookies for Komura during their cooking class.

These adorable little teens really just make me remember the nerves of a first crush/love - where you want to take that plunge but you’re not sure how to, and every little thing has you questioning what they say and do. It’s so sweet.

Some of the shorter stories were just OK, but I like the stories where it’s showing a growth in their bond. (And the glasses gag isn’t even important anymore at this point!)

The first couple chapters had some real good angles going on. It had side characters having some meaningful moments and then the rest of the book was back to the usual stuff. I still like the cuteness of this series but I would like for it to get a little deeper.

Cute moments here and there. The trope wasn't as much in this one which was most appreciated as it mixed things up

not much new happened in this volume either just more day to day antics between the two main characters. still no cute love confession or any other development. still just continuing the series for the simplicity of catching up with my reading challenge for the year.
