If feminine rage were a book, it would undoubtedly be this one. OH MY GOD this was so over the top violent, bloody, gory and legit had just about every trigger possible (except for animal and child abuse)
This was SO DARK, like pitch black, but damn it if I didn't have a blast 🤣🤣 If the fmc weren't such a hysterical and BATSHIT INSANE character, this wouldn't have been so enjoyable. Her derangement played a part in kind of softening all the other atrocities going on😅
I can't really go into the plot too much because of spoilers, but you really need to trust the process here. The fmc has her reasons for her deranged behavior, and even though she did some absolutely HORRID things, I still cheered her on because.. well.. as much as I support women's rights, I SUPPORT WOMEN'S WRONGS ASWELL 🤣🤣🤣
This is NOT a book for everyone and that is totally okay. However, it is a book written for my psycho personality and she really enjoyed herself😭
It is NOT a dark romance; it is more of a erotic horror, but the erotic part is not romantic you know?
Will most definitely read book 2 soon!!
------------------------------------------- I don't know how books with covers like this find me 🤷 All I know is that this is pitch black and the fmc is crazy 💀
Anony Mous is a badass! I liked her. She’s mad, she’s crazy, and she doesn’t feel pain. Picking her up is a mistake, or is it?
This is an erotic horror thriller—bloody, punchy, and merciless. The way these women were degraded and tortured beyond recognition puts a lump in my throat. Ugh, men can be cruel, and we women struggle with this violence every single day.
Having a character like our female lead is a breath of fresh air. She’s not weak, vulnerable, or easily controlled. For starters, she’s not just a woman; she’s different, hiding a dark truth behind her menacing green eyes.
I just wish the scenes weren’t repetitive. Sometimes the writing feels a bit cringey and pulls me out of the story. But overall, this is a great read if you want nasty and crazy in one.
This is probably the most effed up book I have ever read. It is a mix of horror, thriller, mystery, erotica and a whole lot of bat shit crazy and I couldn’t stop reading it. This is basically revenge porn but ..worse ? Lol.
If you have triggers for basically anything be very wary before reading this! Includes gore, rape, cannibalism, etc. etc. !!!
The FMC is a straight up savage!!! She has a pretty effed up mind, but, I still like her. There are times where she is hilarious. She has a very dark sense of humor. The book is pretty good just very dark!!!
Prepare yourself before jumping into You Should’ve Kept Driving. It is sick and twisted, brutal and horrific….and yet I couldn’t look away! I was absolutely glued to the pages.
I usually read just your basic thriller/mystery/suspense book, nothing ever this explicit, but this one looked intriguing. Once I got over my initial “good girl” shock, I was sucked into the story.
It’s about a woman who has a medical condition in which she doesn’t feel physical pain. She’s kidnapped by these low-life sex-trafficking men, who have zero respect for women. They think they found another victim, but they are in for more than they bargained for!
This book is so vicious and so unlike anything I’ve ever read. If you like things dirty, violent, and graphic, look no further! (lol) But also, the story line is really good too! I was completely invested in the characters and how everything was going to end for them. I really came to care about each individual character. I was horrified and also heartbroken at times. Honestly, this book hits you on so many levels. I’m glad I stepped out of my comfort zone!
Note: Definitely see any trigger warnings for this book, there is rape, sex trafficking.
Uhhhhh, what the hell . . . That was a wild ride and I think I might have hated it, the writing was SO cringe. The story could have been so awesome and badass but instead it was about a sex craved cannibal who wanted to fuck, kill, and eat everyone in her sight. All in the name of revenge for her sister? Except not really Because she’s been doing this for years. Idk I’m not thrilled or in love with this story at all and really disappointed. There were moments that were good but also, a lot that was sooo cringey bad.
5 insanely good STARS⭐️ I ate this book up! Incredible! I was literally laughing out loud, the FMC is not only completely unhinged but hilarious!!! And the PLOT 5/5!! The twists & turns I WAS SCREAMING!! Jumping into book 2 immediately because I have no self control & this book IS THAT GOOD
Absolutely deranged cannibalistic serial killer story. So, SO gory.
If pitch black is your jam- and you enjoy some humor in there too 🙌 You have found your next read!
This was rec'd to me as a 'funny read' and while I did giggle to myself multiple times, don't bypass that trigger warning 😂😂😂 (no animals or kids, but juuuuusssttttttt about anything else)
M.A. Savino was one of my Sept ‘Adopted Authors’ in The Book Haven Tribe on FB which was perfect since I’d been wanting to read one of her books this year. From my observations, she is well known and loved in the FB indie reading community. An interesting fact from Melissa’s Amazon bio states that ALL of her books have some elements of truth built into them whether it’s something that has happened to her or others she knows.
I selected her first book in her You Should’ve series titled ‘You Should’ve Kept Driving’ which I’ve seen all over my FB reader groups! It was published last year, and book 3 was released in July of this year.
MY REVIEW: It follows the story of a beautiful woman who is abducted by two brothers in the business of human trafficking. They are despicable—the worst of the worst human beings imaginable! Their job is to break women into complete submission before they’re sold. But they have no idea what their latest abductee has in store for them!
Did I like it?! Heck yeah! It was reminiscent of a few exceptional NR (not-rated) VHS movies that were so explicit it couldn’t even be given a viewer rating back in the 👩🏼🎤80s when I was a teenager working at a video store.
After about the first 20% in, I was so tired of lifting my jaw off the floor, 😲I decided to just leave it there for the remainder! This book is pure adrenaline with seismic shockwaves! WARNING: It isn’t for everyone, though. Keep in mind this erotic horror has EVERY trigger in the book with the exception of children and animals.
That said, M.A. Savino has a talent for interjecting comic relief throughout. This made the book, despite its serious subject matter, immensely entertaining. And it ended with an exciting cliffhanger for book 2, ‘You Should’ve Stayed Home.’
Yep, I’m forever changed after reading this, probably not in a good way! 😂 And as always, a special thanks to Carina Ann from FB’s ‘The Book Haven Tribe’ for connecting me with another amazing author!
***It would be remiss of me not to mention that the cover for You Should’ve Kept Driving is a current Top 5 Finalist in the 2025 Indie Booktok Awards which I believe runs through November 15, 2025.***
Meet Willow—the fierce, resourceful, and unpredictable protagonist in You Should've Kept Driving by Melissa Savino. Captured by two brothers, Willow is a feisty survivor who will have you questioning whether to root for her or fear her. Her sharp wit and determination make her unforgettable, and her actions will leave you on edge as she navigates the perilous and twisted journey of her captivity. This unique story is a page-turner and a nail-biting thriller you don't want to miss! The intense plot twists and psychological depth make it impossible to put down. And the best part? The sequel is coming out in December, so the suspense won't end here! If you’re a fan of dark, gripping thrillers, this is a must-read.
I honestly have no words on how amazing this book was. I could not out it down. The twist and turns, there was so much unexpected things that I am honestly blown away. The author did an amazing job of making the story seem realistic and sucking you in. I definitely will never be able to eat a corn dog again and the ending. I can’t wait to read the next book.
need a good and solid feminine rage book? want something to read where the woman finally gets her revenge? want to read when abusers/hunters suddenly feel fear strike their hearts like a sharp icesickle when they realized, ‘oh… i fcked up horribly’?
well, buckle all the way up for this one as it’s brutal, dark, and oh so fulfilling for when you want to read about women getting their revenge. i was cheering on willow/odie from the get go. ms. girl has CIPA and is certified psychotic - i was absolutely eating (heheh) her character up and cheering her on the entire time. there is something about victims serving justice in a way systems do not. and boy did odie serve that justice with a thought out master mind of a plan that i did not even see the plot twist towards the end.
i am a bit curious about an ari & odie adventure while they’re out being twisted vigilantes and also would love to see odie being the ‘big sister’ to all of the girls (she states she likes to be alone but hey bestie - they all adopted you) and truthfully, i’d love to see femi & odie’s relationship develop more (i love them together & hope she doesn’t kill him since he’s so, so similar to her but also - rip {pls don’t}!)
as a fair warning and a reminder: this book is definitely dark and not for the faint of heart as it contains and yet not limited to: trafficking, SA, torture, and cannibalism. please check the trigger warnings prior to reading. if you’re fine to proceed, buckle up and get ready for the ride!
((this review is all over the place and lacks proper grammar and thorough thoughts of mine as it’s 1am))

I was worried at first because of all of the trigger warnings. Frankly, while this book does cover a lot of trigger subjects, I don't feel that any of it was overly prolonged or graphic in a way that it overtook the plot. Obviously that's for the reader to decide where they draw the line, but I've read books that I've had to stop reading because I found them tasteless and vulgar. This is not one of those books. The plot came first and foremost. The trigger aspects were essential to the plot and not included for shock value.
I seriously loved this book and I've already ordered the next book! I love how instead of breaking down, these women rose up and fought back. These guys just didn't understand that they kidnapped someone who was possibly sicker than they are. Not to mention that she's being driven by vengeance. They are only driven by power and greed. Willow/Odie is my new shero! She's feral, strong, loyal, and a little psychotic.
“You Should’ve Kept Driving” by M. A. Savino is a raw, intense, and gripping thriller that pulls you into its dark and graphic world from the very first page. The story follows a woman with a plan—one that sets her on a collision course with ruthless human traffickers. The stakes are high, the tension is palpable, and the pacing is relentless. Savino's writing is sharp and evocative, making it impossible to look away. I was hooked from start to finish, reading it in a single sitting. If you're looking for a dark, heart-pounding read, this book will not disappoint. They should've kept driving, because they never saw her coming.
***If you are squeamish, be aware this book is GORY and GRAPHIC***
Now that I have the warning out of the way, whew………WHAT A WILD RIDE!!!! I am so glad I didn't keep scrolling when I came across You Should've Kept Driving. I can say this though, I am betting Benny and Griff sure wish they had. But I won't let things “spoil" for you, so let's get this review under way!
Brothers, Benny and Griffin are in the business of people. Literally. The two have the market cornered when it comes to human sex trafficking in their area. But some days they have to work harder than they like to find a suitable candidate. Today, seems lady luck is on their side.
For Odeya Willamina Parks, Willow or Odie depending on her mood, being broken down on the side of the road wasn't in her plans. But plans can change, and sometimes for the better. She's definitely no damsel in distress but for these two, maybe she can pull off the act long enough to accomplish her goals.
When the brothers abduct Willow, they think they've hit the jackpot. Benny says add her to the line-up while Griff wants to keep her as a play thing. It doesn't really matter what they want to do with her, Willow has her own plans for the brothers – a twisted tale of revenge.
Savino has mastered “fleshing" out characters – main and supporting. Willow is as unhinged as she is hilarious, giving us the ability to relate to her even with the insanity. If Williow isn't the classic case of ADHD, I ain't looking in the mirror. One minute she's humming tunes, the next she's sharpening her blades. Benny and Griff, well they are just scum balls of the earth and honestly get what they deserve. But Savino builds their characters to the point while you can relate to them, making it easier to dislike them as well. Savino has written these characters to invoke extreme reactions from her readers – and emotions they do invoke!
You Should've Kept Driving has a relentless pace that keeps tensions high and stakes even higher. Readers are drawn in from the first page with its dark humor and graphic violence – blending the two surprisingly well. With themes or horror, eroticism, and psychological thriller, I am thinking Savino has cornered a new genre with her name solely on it. Her writing is raw and unfiltered, not shying away from the dark and graphic details. As you can probably imagine, the vivid imagery and descriptive details are very graphic.
If you are looking for a bucking wild time, saddle up because you are in for the wildest ride of your life. Savino does NOT disappoint in any aspect with this one. I honestly had way too much fun with this review.
Before I end this review, I do want to list some of the trigger warnings just because I feel like if you've made it this far, you may be considering reading this book. While I am not trying to discourage anyone from reading this, just be aware of what you are getting into.
Triggers: kidnapping, vengeance, trauma, spicy, gore, cannibalism, dark humor, horror, rape, sex trafficking, serial killer, psychological manipulation to name just some. I can attest there are no children or animals involved that I remember (I would remember if they were of any significance).
As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation, present or future, by the author or publisher in exchange for this fair review.
If you enjoy these reviews, please give The Tx Lit Chic a follow, I am on all social media outlets now INCLUDING TikTok (although I've not gone live yet). Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you around real soon!
What happens when the hunters become the hunted...when men, who think they are at the top of the food chain, meet their match? We'll, this book happens, that's what, and it was disturbing AF!!! Did that stop me from finishing and enjoying every unhinged thing written in it? Nope..did I wonder WTF am I reading...yes, many times.
First off, this book is not for the faint of heart. This is not a book for people who get triggered easily, because apart from children and animals, this book likely contains 99% of all triggers.
This book is gory, it's gross, it's deranged and beautiful Willow is completely off her rocker, and yet she is utterly fascinating. There is nothing she will shy away from to avenge herself on the men who took everything from her. Savino challenges our ingrained morals with this book, and yet she does something that I have never experienced before, she crosses the boundary and takes us from a simple ignored red flag and puts us in a place where those flags make you feel uncomfortable. Yet, the writing and storyline grips you so much, you are unable to put it down.
I'm not saying any more about this book- going in not knowing what to expect is exactly the way it should be read.
If you are looking for a completely psychotic read, with a totally mad serial kill€r FMC.‼️‼️You don't mind cannibalism and severe torture, and don't mind a severed frozen peen in the freezer, for sure give this a go.‼️‼️
🌹Thank you so much to @savinotheauthor for gifting me an arc of this unhinged book😉 it was worth all the discomfort!!!
This was by FAR the weirdest and most out of my comfort zone book I’ve ever read. I read a lot of thrillers and a lot of smut sprinkled with a little horror, but I wasn’t prepared. However, this author is brilliant. I cannot believe I read a descriptive dark horror book and laughed so many times. I felt like Odie (FMC) and Sloane from butcher & blackbird should be best friends. *cough cough accidental cannibalism* I experienced new triggers, I probably need therapy because they didn’t trigger me. But this book was a really graphic really dark really effed up wild ride but also made me laugh multiple times. Also, the plot…. Loved it! I cringed, I laughed, and the writing style has me so intrigued I’m definitely reading more of her books. I loved the way she developed characters (ari lmao girl you cray) and made them all unique while still providing a riveting and page turning plot. And the humor. Yall. How can graphic violence be this funny? Huge fan! Happy I ventured outside my normal sub genres and read this. I wish the cover was just a plate of stir fry and a bloody knife. Or maybe a corn dog and a gas mask? It doesn’t match this book. Is smut horror comedy a genre? Because Ms Savino is the GOAT if so. And I have two rules, no kids and no dogs can be harmed. She hit about every other possible trigger but not those two. I’m deranged for rating this five stars but it deserves it.
Initially, when I first started reading this, I wasn't hopeful. Here we have yet another FMC who starts off telling the reader how ~hot~ and different she is. And my eyes rolled, yet again. and I knew I was in for a treat.
"You Should Have Kept Driving" is a feminine rage fueled tale of revenge, redemption and... cannibalism? In it, we are thrust straight into the dungeon which will house our yet to be named MC, who was kidnapped on the side of the road by a pair of brothers who are involved in the human trafficking trade. However, they quickly learn that they're stuck in there with her, not the other way around.
While I definitely enjoyed this book, I do feel in many ways it was quite predictable and repetitive. However, I love that the action was not all saved for the final act, there were bursts of gore and depravity spread quite evenly throughout the whole story. I do think the ending droned on about 30 or pages too long though, but I understand the author was setting up for a sequel.
Overall, a gruesome and despicable read, in the best sense of the words. MAJOR SUPERMASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING FOR VIOLENT AND REPEATED SEXUAL ASSAULT.
Okay, so I’m not going to lie, the beginning of this book I wasn’t sure I was going to keep reading. I am coming out of a book slump and just read a book that was spectacular that sent me into ANOTHER book slump before I read this one.
HOWEVER, I kept going and I am glad that I did. This book was very good. It’s very dark and filled with all kinds of feminine rage. It will not be for everyone, but if someone asked me. “Hey, you got a book rec for some fv€ked up $h!t?” This is one that I would choose to recommend. It’s also really well written and the story progresses well. The plot twist was so good and it definitely caught me by surprise (well the first one at least).
Very good book overall!! I’m excited to see what crazy sh!t Odie and Ari get into in book 2!
Ya know what? Hell ya! I've been looking for a book with a super badass FMC, and this book delivered. From the first few pages, I was laughing and internally saying "yesss girl". She's a bit on the batshit crazy side, but I wouldn't want her any other way. It's gory, graphic, gross, etc. and I loved every single second of it. This book makes me really appreciate going in blind. I saw the cover and said "self, that looks like a bit of you." I was right. Are there errors and maybe a plot hole? Sure. But I was so entertained that I don't care. I'll for sure be reading the second book.
This is an actual warning from the author, take it very seriously!
DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE TRIGGERED BY VIOLENCE OR RAPE!
I read the warning and looked at the reviews and still I was surprised at how brutal and violent this book was. Like the author was continually trying to top the last horrible act with something even worse.
I gave the book 5 stars because it was written so well that I had a hard time putting it down and curiosity really got the best of me. I believe there’s an animal desire in us all to get revenge, even if it is stuffed deep down for most.
This book was everything that I didn’t know I needed to read. I went thru this book with my jaw dropping, giggling, wanting to unalive fictional characters. And rooting for the girls. What a great read. Wasn’t expecting the outcome and didn’t know it was the outcome I wanted.
All I’m gonna say is READ THIS BOOK. But also read the trigger warnings. If you aren’t a person that likes gore and vivid deaths THIS BOOK ISN’T FOR YOU. Go find something flowery and sunshiney
Yooooo.. I love a badass FMC!!! And Willow(?)is just that! This book was everything…. comical (was literally LOL at parts), witty, gorey, mysterious, thrilling, erotic, with a lot of crazy mixed in! As a forewarning, this book is not for those with a weak stomach. TW: has very graphic rape scenes and gore, torture, human trafficking, and cannibalism. Buuuut, if you like movies like “I Spit On Your Grave,” then you might like this. Revenge with a badass FMC. Loved this story and can’t wait to read book #2.
I honestly have nothing I can compare this book to. This sits in its own class. A woman is kidnapped by trash people and she has to find a way out and save the other women along the way. You want feminine rage? You got it! Revenge? You got it! Badassery?! You fawkin got it!! Savino blends erotica, gore, and humor so well... I'm blown away (pun intended 😉)
