Annoying heroine

The heroine was unlikable and unsympathetic and annoying - I kept hoping she would redeem herself, but she never did.
Inconsistencies; Hugh's eyes started out green then ended up blue; his sister suggested a picnic, but then thanked Harriet for suggesting it.

I usually give at least a three star just because the author wrote a book, so I could not do. But this story was really nothing but filling in words about the lady Harriet and how she felt thus portraying a selfish young lady who thought of no one but herself and her feelings. There was no plot whatsoever just ongoing conversations of how she was soooo mistreated by her brother etc. the only thing I can say positive is it was a clean read

A Good Story

I enjoyed this story. It really highlights how one person who has strong views can be selfish without realizing how her actions affect families and their reputations. Harriet is afraid to marry for love. When she meets Duke Hugh at a ball, they chat together but are found unchaperoned and are expected to marry. Harriet fights the injustice of this but eventually realises that she is hurting her brother and mother by refusing to marry Hugh. Poor Hugh is very patient with her and accepts her fears but he is trying to protect his sister's reputation, which would be damaged if Harriet refuses him.. Eventually Harriet agrees to the marriage but insists on a condition, they must not fall in love. Will Hugh and Harriet be able to navigate society events and gossip and just remain friends? Read on and enjoy.

This story has its humorous moments. The heroine doesn’t want to marry so she turns away would be suitors. The hero, who is not accepted by the ton, witnesses this and confronts her. Only then they are both caught in a scandalous situation so they marry. Then the fun begins as they are drawn to each other when they really don’t want that to happen. I found the heroine a little hard to like at times as she seemed a little too self centered.

The Scottish Duke takes the Bluestocking

Whilst I wouldn't call Harriet a Bluestocking, she certainly has a temper and her on views on things. Hugh seems to be a lovely man with a lot on his plate. Caroline and Benedict pad out the story as friends of Harriet. All strong characters with Hugh standing out for me as the best of the bunch. I was surprised that no mention was made of Harriet's family, once she was married! I thought all would be forgiven........

beautiful story

A beautiful story which kept me captivated from start to finish. The fiery lass met her match. Caught in a compromise position Hariet had no choice but to wed Hugh her Scottish duke. Their relationship had its up and down but All her reservations melted and love blossomed in the end. Highly recommended

Hugh

Lovely read with a sweet story of a strong willed lady and a Duke with a huge heart and soul. Society as always looking down their noses at the Dukes Scottish heritage causing endless problems latch on to the scandal he inadvertently becomes involved in…..Harriet is rebellious and determined not to succumb to marriage when tragedy strikes!! Enjoyed this book!

Though I felt it was a little slow & repetitive, they interactions very amusing & it was fun to read & I loved the relationship with Harriet & Abigail the way they were true sister. & Hugh Was so kind & caring putting others first & trying to make them both as comfortable & happy as possible even at the detriment to himself. Overall a good & emotional story

Nice Story

It took MS a while to finish this book, but I really enjoyed it. It was nice to see that some of the ton did not like Scottish people, even one that was a Duke. It was I treating to see how he had to marry someone because of a misunderstanding of him holding a Lady while trying to help her. In the end they fell in love. Good book to read!

Protective walls

Harriet and Hugh wed after a bout of coughing was misinterpreted as a scandalous embrace. Hugh faced disdain from the Ton because of his Scottish lineage and Harriet drove away suitors because of fear. Yet, both came to see the best qualities in their spouse. Both were likeable characters who emerged from behind their protective walls.

The Scottish Duke Games the Bluestocking.

Such a sweet well written wonderful love story . Though it took awhile for Harriet to realise how much she loved Hugh. Full of humour and laughter.

Heroine was largely unsympathetic, I had a really hard time connecting. While there was some chemistry, it was limited and the avoidance of anything at all - kissing, caressing or otherwise - became a negative point for me.

Amazing Story!

This was great but man the denials and vacillating around drove me crackers! However, the plot was quite fabulous! I’d love to see those dresses.

taking a chance

I enjoyed the story but it took me a while to warm up to Harriet, she seemed rather selfish And I am not really sure why Hugh fell in love with her.

Tender romance

The heart knows what the heart knows is the theme of this story. Not even the fear of rejection can over shadow the strength of true love.
