Avery, now the Statewide Emergency Manager for South Carolina, returns to her hometown as part of her efforts to update the town's disaster plans. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she bumps into Mitch, her first love, who is now an ER doctor. Twenty years ago, their careers drove them apart, but the sparks fly again when they meet. Despite her hesitations, Avery finds the old flame hard to resist, even as she worries that their lives are still too far apart from one another to sustain their relationship. Mitch has never gotten over Avery and is determined to convince her that what they feel for one another is worth pursuing, even as they figure out how to balance love and careers. Hot and steamy mid-life, second chance romance with a little bit of angst and a helping of humor - love that squirrel!
Mitch knows, within seconds of seeing Avery again, that this is their time, their second chance and he will stop at nothing to make it work. It's a good job he is determined and driven as Avery is far more wary and has a tendency to run from the hard decisions. I really like Mitch, he is genuine and open, never denying his love for her, Avery disapoints me a little, she didn't learn from the mistakes of last time and is willing to run rather than fight for their love, what frustrates me most is that she does love him, she just prefers to ignore it. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Mitch and Avery were at the start of their careers when they split. It wasn't due to cheating, nor was it due to any fight or misunderstanding. They were moving cross country from each other for work. One to Texas and the other to Colorado. Twenty years pass, and they still love each other. They haven't seen or spoken until she falls off a ladder and ends up in his ER. Can they make it work this time?
The book was okay. I'm not a fan of Second Chance, but there weren't any glaring issues. It was very open about life and sex after 40. Almost too much. I read to escape, not just to see HEAs.
Unfortunately for Avery and Mitch, their career paths separate them for many years and left them heartbroken. However, an accident reunites them and while Mitch wants them to try again, Avery is reluctant to do so. Her stubbornness got a bit annoying but overall, the story was very enjoyable. I really liked how Mitch decided that he did not want to let her go again and wanted to prove that things would be different now.

Avery and Mitch—she’s an emergency preparedness expert and he’s an ER doc; they also happened to have been lovers 20 years previously. So when she gets sent to her old home town by the governor to update emergency plans and he happens to be an ER doc in that same town, they realize they still loved each other. Nothing crazy happens in this story; they just realize they belong together with a strong push from her parents. He moves and gets a job in her home base town and they get their HEA. Short but sweet novella.

A later in life, second chance romance that had my inner voice reading this story in a slow southern drawl. I loved Avery's reluctance to reconnect with Mitch and take what was her usual sunshine personality and turn her into the grump. Meanwhile Mitch who normally was grumpy absolutely bloomed to life around Avery. Tales like this give me dreams of reconnecting with "the one who got away" from my past.

Avery and Dr. Mitch were lovers twenty years ago and got a second chance in Magnolia Point
Avery returned to Magnolia Point for her job and ended up in the Emergency room. Her handsome doctor was Mitch the guy who got away. The old spark reignited and Mitch pushed her to give them a real chance at HEA. Her mom was the one asking about Mitch's intention and dad chipped in that mom needed to be asked if she gave her blessing. Cute story with lots of PDA and I loved the ending.
Avery and Mitch were once young and in love with each other but they each went their separate ways for their careers. Now twenty years later they are both back in their hometown and the spark is still there. This is a sweet second chance love story with likable characters, humor, steam, and a happily ever after. Romancing the Storm is a great addition to the multi-author Magnolia Point series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This is Mitch and Avery’s story. This is a well written story which has family, friendships, emotions, angst, humor, witty banter, heartbreak, determination, challenges, intrigue, engaging and realistic characters, second chances, romance, and first love, which leads to an entertaining, steamy, and sweet compelling page turner. Avery and Mitch are now in their 40s and meet again when work brings Avery to her home town of Magnolia Point. They were a couple in their twenties and parted because they had to move in different directions for their careers. Avery seems to have always needed to prove herself career-wise, and even though it seems so very kismet that they meet again, Avery continues to deny that they should be together. Mitch is all in but Avery is rather stubborn.
I loved this touching second chance story! Although Avery was on the brink of getting annoying, I think it was just the right amount of tension and frustration to make for an interesting read. And Mitch was so patient and swoony. I definitely want to read more from Rose's Midlife Crisis Contemporary Romance book, stat!.
