This is a very touching story about a young woman who returns to her hometown after being kicked out of her home by an abusive husband. And she has a 6 year-old daughter with her. Fortunately she has access to her grandfather's old house and quickly she meets up with old friends. She is apologetic for not keeping in touch with them, but everyone is so happy to have her home that they don't care. One old friend, however, is someone she dated in high school and for whom she discovers she has feelings for. And he is the same way. However, she keeps him at arms length, saying "we can only be friends because my divorce is not finalized". This is the theme throughout the story. Regretfully it gets a little tired.
After a short while she receives a delinquent tax notice in the mail and doesn't know what to do. Her grandfather died about a year ago, and when she contacts her older brother about this, he hasn't a clue. She spends quite a bit of time looking for answers because they don't have the kind of money that is needed, and time is short.
Another theme of the story is the great relationship that quickly forms between her old boyfriend and her daughter. In fact there are many good times that the three of them have together, but she will not let it go beyond "friendship". So the story is full of many events and rekindling of old relationships.
I don't think I should tell any more or it might spoil the suspense for the next readers. All I can say is please be patient because the book tested my patience many times.
I sometimes really struggle with second-chance romances, but I actually liked this one a lot. I loved the concept and, more than anything, the honesty of it. It didn’t feel like one of those “we’ve always loved each other and now everything is magically fine” stories. There were real, adult problems here, and that made it so much more meaningful.
The MMC was so devoted to her and clearly in love with her basically the entire time. He just kept showing up for her over and over again in the most wonderful, steady, comforting way. Meanwhile, the FMC was going through a divorce, raising a little girl, and trying to figure out how to survive as a single parent while her whole life was changing. Watching her juggle all of that felt real and emotional.
What I really loved is that this was a true adult second-chance romance. They weren’t just picking up where they left off as kids — they were full-grown adults with baggage, responsibilities, and brand-new problems to deal with. And they had to actually work through those things to be together. That made their love story feel earned and grounded.
Overall, I really liked this one. It was emotional, tender, and quietly romantic in a way that really worked for me.
My only complaint: why is this man wearing an infinity scarf on the cover??? 😭 That is NOT the MMC I pictured in my head and it fully took me out.

This book “ Coming Home to Sunset Cove” was a very well written book. I loved how it flowed and how the characters meshed with the storyline. I loved how Avery realized how she relied her old friends in her times of greatest need and how they pitched in to help her and her daughter when they needed it most. Tori Mitchell did an awesome job of piquing your interest and keeping you in suspense till the end of what would happen. I also loved how she showed how Avery’s grandfather was so helpful and kind to all those in the community without ever wanting any recognition or anyone knowing what he had done…what a great example for us all to follow. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and highly recommend it to all!
Returning to your roots after your life falls apart is never easy. It's harder still when a child is involved. Coming Home to Sunset Cove is a sweet second-chance love story that will capture your heart and have you rooting for Avery and Grant. Located along the Jersey shore, Sunset Cove is the ultimate small town, with old friends and kind, friendly neighbors ready to step up and help their own. It's hard to believe this is Tori Mitchell's first novel. This story got me in the feels and has me longing for the next book in the series. Well done, Ms. Mitchell!
I like series. I like how the big picture continues to develop, and the reader gets a glimpse of the author's imagination.
Sunset Cove is such a place. I really loved how the characters were there for each other. I also really liked that Grant and Avery were given a second chance.
Great read, I couldn’t put it down! Sweet romance, you fall in love with the characters and town. If you like Hallmark movies you will most definitely love this book. Recommend!
I was drawn to Avery right away, my heart broke for the things she had been through and I admired her courage in so many more ways! Grant, reminded me of the one that got away- the guy you always put in the friend zone but who you need to show you there are good men. This book was exactly what I needed to clear my palate between some of my usual thrillers. I loved that it sucked me in and was the easy read, I was looking for! Hopeful that there’s more to come with Avery and Grant!
Cute book. The writing was more of a YA level than an adult read. Some of it was a little cringy, and I rolled my eyes more than once, but it was a feel-good, easy read.
I really enjoyed this story about the courage and strength of a single-mom. The community fiber is beautiful and is what every community should be. Loved this one!
Coming Home to Sunset Cove (3.5/5 stars) is a gentle, comforting read that leans into themes of second chances, healing, and finding your way back—to a place, to people, and to yourself. Tori Mitchell creates a cozy emotional atmosphere that makes this an easy story to settle into.
The pacing is steady and calm, giving the romance time to unfold naturally. While it didn’t completely sweep me away, I enjoyed the quiet emotional moments and the sense of nostalgia woven throughout the story. It’s the kind of book that feels familiar in a comforting way, even when the plot is predictable.
There’s a softness to the characters that makes them easy to root for, and the setting adds to that sense of warmth and reflection. Sunset Cove itself feels like a place meant for healing and fresh starts.
A couple of quotes that stood out to me:
“Sometimes going home isn’t about returning to a place—it’s about remembering who you were before the world hardened you.”
“Love doesn’t always arrive loudly. Sometimes it waits patiently, right where you left it.”
I gave this book 3.5 stars because while it didn’t break new ground, it delivered exactly what it promised: a heartfelt, comforting romance with emotional sincerity. Perfect for readers who enjoy slower-paced love stories and small, meaningful moments.
