In the community garden on Parsley Place, volunteers found Harold Honeycomb. He is the town’s beekeeper.
He was dead, among his hives.
But, Grace Hawthorne and her wise-cracking parrot, Polly, saw the tragedy as a murder, right away, and got right on it.
Grace is the resourceful innkeeper with an eye for clues and a mind for mischief.
Polly is a parrot with a gift for repeating the secrets of Hazelwood's residents. She does so at the best times.
Enter Officer Jack Carter. He's Hazelwood's upstanding lawman.
He finds his by-the-book approach tested by Grace's unorthodox methods.
He may be wary of her involvement. But, together, this odd team navigates a maze of hidden motives and sticky situations.
Grace’s insights—and Polly's uncanny mimicry—crack the case wide open. Suspicion runs rampant. Everyone locks their doors at night, while the team races against time to solve who did it.
They must navigate and solve the case before disaster strikes again.
The kernel of the story and the characters are top notch, but the explanations and conclusions definitely need work. I felt adrift throughout most of this short story, but still liked what I understood. However, as I said, I did like what I understood and I do recommend this short story. Perhaps someone more intelligent than I can understand it better.
