An additional read in the series...

Otro archivo perdido que se lee rápido. No se agregaron nuevas ideas. Pero, se tiene una mejor comprensión de la mente de Malcolm Goode y su relación con su hijo Sam y Adamus Sutekh.

It's been quite a while since I read a book in this series and I'd forgotten quite a bit, including Malcolm.
These journal entries reminded me of his role as a Greeter who was held captive since his disappearance. Now that he's free, he is struggling to remember what memories the Mogadorians could have stolen from him with their experiments, while he is still as determined as ever to aid the Lorien, especially now that his own son is involved in the war.

This was actually not bad but it doesn't really sound like a journal — the writing feels forced and stilted, like it's trying to be informative.

This was the best of the journals, because Malcolm is such an underdeveloped character in the books. He is so conflicted and torn apart in his journal that it seems very real--like the things he tells his journal are the things he wouldn't say to anyone else. The hardest part to read is when he says he's a terrible father because of how much of Sam's life he missed--that's heartbreaking.

March 8, 2026Malcom’s Journal
Entry 1- It talks of how Malcom has reunited with his son. He’d almost given up hope until he meet Adam. He thinks of how the Magodorians tortured Sam and how he’d like to rip them apart. He blames himself. After he disappeared Sam wouldn’t rest until he found out what happened to him. He was never satisfied with a simple explanation. He’d hoped to keep him out of this by telling him aliens weren’t real but now he’s just happy to see him again.
Entry 2: Malcom speaks of his memories returning. The memory he has of giving Sam a model space shuttle for Christmas. Sam watched him for a while until he got bored. Then he came back asking about a piece. He thinks of how he could build a better one now. Only he’s not a child anymore. He laments that he missed it all and has been a terrible father.
Entry 3: This one talks about Malcom calling Beth but she doesn’t answer. He knows Sam misses his mother and Beth is worried. He hopes to pick up the pieces of his broken family when the war is over.He can’t blame her for kicking him out when he returned with a crazy explanation and now, he’s taking his son on a crazy quest. It wouldn’t surprise him if she calls the police. He can only hope that when it’s all over, he’ll get a chance to explain

Sam is optismic they’ll help him recover his memories He knows he should remember certain things like the skeleton bones in the bunker in his backyard. The Mogadorians were tryin to find something but he doesn’t know what they could have found. He’s hoping the journal will organize his thoughts. He knows tho that he’ll never get it all back.
Entry: 5 He thinks about Adam and how he hasn’t heard from him since. Maybe he escaped the base but for some reason he gotten in touch with him. He thinks maybe Adam won’t be the only Mongadorian ally but he doubts this. He regrets leaving him but he reminds himself the sacrifice was his choice
Entry 6: Malcom thinks of how the Mongadorians might have found something in his memories and wonders did they find it.
Entry 7: Malcom marvels over how Sam has meet Five. He Malcolm is about to meet the last surviving members of the Loric race and vows to help them in any way he can.
My Thoughts:
Since admittedly I’ve only read one book in this series, I didn’t know who this character was. I had to read back and then think back even to who Sam was. Then think back to the book and remember what he said happened to his father. If going by this diary is any indication, you definitely can’t just read these out of order. So, I won’t really rate this one. I feel like I have a lot more to cover in this series.

Eso es lo que me pregunto yo también Malcolm... ¿cuanto saben los Mogadorianos sobre los Lóricos?
"El Diario de Malcolm" relata en 7 páginas lo que tuvo que atravesar durante la ausencia de su familia (su hijo Sam y su esposa) y lo que le espera en esta guerra entre extraterrestres y humanos.
PD: disponible solo en inglés y en digital. Recomendado leerlo luego de los 3 primeros capítulos de "La Caída de Cinco" para evitar spoilers o plot-twists ya que la saga traducida en español no ha llegado aun a mi país. Sí, tiene un orden en específico, cronológico, para leer pero no voy a poder respetarlo porque son muchos spin-off/historias bonus entre medio de la heptalogía.

Son siete paginillas escritas a modo de diario. Al contrario que las de Sarah o Sam, aunque nos cuenta cosas que ya sabemos, lo hace de un modo más fresco. Cuenta en primera persona la preocupación que siente Malcolm por el destino de Adam y por no haber sido un buen padre para Sam. Estas son preocupaciones que carcomen al personaje en La caída de Cinco, pero no se explicitan más allá de algunos gestos. Son sus motivaciones principales para su evolución como personaje.

Another quick journal read about another of the hero's thoughts on what is happening in the main storyline of the series. No new insights added. But, one does get a better understanding of the mind of Malcolm Goode and his relationship with both his son Sam and Adamus Sutekh.

Good insight on Malcolm's thoughts after his escape and reunion with Sam. Most of this I could gather from the novels themselves but it was still nice to see it directly from him. He takes his responsibilities to help the Garde very seriously 👍

This was a pleasant turn of events after the short story that was The Scar. Although there was nothing new about these journal entries, it wasn't a bad read. Pretty good as a reminder considering how long ago it was when I read The Fall of Five.

¡Me encantó! Conocemos más sobre el papel que tuvo Malcolm en la llegada de los refugiados lorinenses, lo escencial que fue para lograr que la Garde se estableciera en la tierra. Y que aún a pesar de su gran hazaña, arriesgó lo más importante para él, a su familia.
