I’ve trapped the woman of my dreams, and I'm not letting her go…

I've been in love with Lilac Lauren since the first time I laid eyes on her, and no matter what I do, I can't get her out of my mind.

I needed a wife by graduation to become COO of American Billionaire Club, a secret society so exclusive even the elite struggle to get in.

So what better excuse is there than to marry my sweet, innocent princess?

By tricking her into signing a marriage license, that’s what.

It wasn't easy, but I did what I did. And no amount of begging will undo that.

Lilac hates me, but she'll learn that we're soulmates.

She'll learn her duties of being a wife to an American God.

She'll learn that no matter what she says or does, there is no escaping me.

This book contains dark themes and trigger warnings. Read inside the book for details.
Treacherous God is a dark college romance with tropes including: tricked into marriage, secret identity, billionaire, and secret society. The hero is pitch black, OTT possessive and obsessive over the FMC with "touch her and die" vibes. It's a complete standalone that ends with a HEA.

What a thrilling read this turned out to be, the mystery, suspense, the twists and turns turned out to be a mind-blowing read. The plot reads like a psychological thriller. We were engrossed in the pages from beginning to end. We could not put it down; we finished it in one sitting.

The characters were fantastic. Irwin, for his brutal honesty, who and what he was, made no excuses, and what he was capable of, and never lied to Lilac about the real him. It is a see what you get kind of thing. The man was calculated and clever, and some may even call him a psychopath. There was never any doubt in our minds that he loved Lilac and would give his life to protect her, even giving his own. Is his love twisted and sick, controlling and wrong, or just the way he goes about showing it?

Lilac is drawn to danger and darkness, a thrill seeker; her sexual passions and fantasies attract her to a bad boy like Irwin. Lilac was and a emotional hot mess in this plot, which you can kind of guess from the mind games that go on between husband and wife. When outside forces intrude, its a whole other ball game. The witty banter is super hot, and it's not the laughing kind its more of a dueling kind. The chemistry between them is pure fire, and their sexual interludes are off-the-charts hot.

The other characters also play an important part in this story, and we loved getting to know them. Speaking of characters, Lilac was complicated. She was secretive and had her demons, and some might feel sorry for all she endured, yet if she was honest with herself, the good girl craves the darkness as well. Lilac did disappoint in one aspect, and that was that she did not trust her husband when it counted the most. No matter how twisted and messed up their love life seemed, he was brutally honest about what was asked of him by society, and she knew all and still chose to betray him when push came to shove, without even giving him the benefit of the doubt.

We enjoyed this plot; its intensity, brutally raw emotions, and its complicated characters. The fact that Irwin was willing to give his life for the woman he loved spoke volumes about going against society's rules and regulations, knowing you could pay with your life. We loved it.

PS. Please heed the warnings in this dark romance and its triggers, as there are many, as this story was a dark and twisted love story.

“I’ll burn down this city if anyone keeps you away from me.”

Oh mylanta! Author J.M. Stonebeck has bewitched me again! The latest sensation in the Gods of North Haven University saga, Treacherous God, is an unleashed monster that devoured my body, mind, and soul. I reveled in the depravity and danced in the flames.

Treacherous God is a dark, secret society romance full of “whodunit” suspense starring a devastatingly handsome devil of a king, and a beautiful and bold queen who are soulmates. It bravely touches on tough topics like trauma and abuse. A love story that is ugly and messy but worth everything.

Irvin is unhinged hero goals!
🔥 Secret society god who is downright lethal
🔥 Smokin’ hot, all alpha anti-hero
🔥 Stalker level: off-the-charts
🔥 Protective persona
🔥 My undoing!

Lilac is admirable as she navigates a traumatic past.
👑 Stunning
👑 Strong
👑 Gives as good as she gets

Irvin and Lilac are complex characters of many layers and I was fascinated by each one. I loved their banter, burning angst, and blurred predator versus prey lines. This hero and heroine are two shattered souls who make each other whole. My heart wanted to hug them.

Prepare to fall for a possessive anti-hero and pro-level stalker, a brave heroine, and their messy love story. Treacherous God is a riveting rush of romance that intoxicates at every turn! I burned for this book that’s stunning, savage, and smartly written. Pure addiction.

💋💋💋💋💋 savage kisses

Treacherous God is a dark, haunting psychological romance that fully commits to its themes of obsession, control, and identity. From the start, the story pulls you into a tense and unsettling atmosphere, and the dynamic between Irvin and Lilac is both gripping and emotionally charged.

Lilac’s journey is the emotional core of the book. Watching her navigate a marriage built on secrets while slowly realizing the depth of the world she’s been pulled into kept me completely invested. Her vulnerability paired with her quiet resilience made her easy to root for, even as the situation grew darker.

Irvin is the definition of a morally gray, possessive MMC. His need for control mixed with the moments where his composure cracks adds layers to his character and makes their relationship fascinating to watch unfold. I especially appreciated how his internal conflict showed through his actions, even when his motives weren’t entirely clear.

Another standout for me was the secondary cast — they added so much depth to the world of North Haven and made the secret society feel real and layered. Their presence heightened the tension and made the stakes feel bigger than just Irvin and Lilac’s relationship.

The pacing slows slightly in parts, but the psychological tension and emotional intensity keep the story compelling. The ending felt fitting for the tone — dark, complex, and satisfying in a way that acknowledges the cost of everything the characters endured.

If you enjoy dark NA romances with psychological depth, secret societies, and intense character dynamics, this is definitely one to pick up.

Thank you so much to Wildfire Marketing for the ARC copy!

The Gods of North Haven University Book 2

This dark psychological romance was fast-paced and easy to devour. As soon as I started reading, I didn't want to put it down. I loved the first book in the series, but this one is definitely my favorite so far. I couldn't get enough of Irvin and Lilac. The plot is ridiculously entertaining, and the spice throughout was so hot!

I love a sexy obsessed/possessive unhinged psycho and Irvin is all that and more. He is down bad for Lilac and will stop at nothing to make her his.

Lilac has so many secrets and is just as gone for Irvin. She keeps trying to push him away, but this psycho in love was not about to let her get away.

Suspenseful and thrilling read. Definitely a page-turner and a must for dark romance readers who loved an unhinged OTT man obsessed.

Tropes:
Dark academia
Secret society
Secret identity
Tricked into marriage
Morally black
Obsessive MMC

did not finish for now. i couldn't get past the cheesyness of the book, even if its marketed as such a dark romance book (lmao). he kept calling her princess, blowing his vape smoke in her face, she wouldn't share the trauma of her past even tho he asked like every scene. weird smut. he kinda dropped a bomb in the beginning that his bf's mom SAd him and then it goes away!? maybe cause i didn't read the first book it would've talked more about his and lilac's relationship before he got *engaged* but i didn't, so i felt really lost. oh, and this is all within 10% of the book.

2.5 This book was just….weird. Lilac was just an odd character, and it was a struggle at times to understand where she was coming from.
(Possible spoilers ahead)

First off, the names in this book made my left eye twitch. You have Lilac, Lyrical, Snow, and Winter (there are others. That’s all I can remember right now). 🤪

It will probably help if you read the first book because this book starts where H and h have already hooked up.

You have to suspend all logical brain cells because the plot is OTT. 😂 The bro club is basically members of The Gods club, which is a secret society of powerful people. H is obsessed with h, and has a plan in motion to marry her. The problem is, he’s already engaged to OW, set up by the Gods. H has been hooking up with h, but she has kind of ignored him since she found out he was engaged.

Lilac (h) AKA Paige has a very traumatic past that nobody knows about. 🙄

Anyway, basically the first half of the book is H setting everything up to manipulate h into marrying him. They do a lot of smexual stuff, then h *always* pulls away from him afterwards. They do get married, and H controls Every. Single. Thing…..and h spends the majority of the time yelling “I hate you,” “I don’t love you,” and “you’ll never have me” while also crying A LOT …seriously, she cries at least every other page. She will frequently mess with OM to make H jealous. She’s always threatening to screw somebody else. H happened to be very patient and kind to her, considering I wanted to throw her off a cliff. 😒

So…the major backstory and plot mystery
h used to be a happy-go-lucky girl who lived with her sweet parents. They fostered a boy named Emerson. Emerson was a psychopath, and he manipulated h into a weird smexual relationship where he also gRaped her. One night, she tried to break up with him by manipulating him and saying her parents would be against the relationship. He left her room, and ☠️☠️ the parents. PROBLEM SOLVED! He was arrested, and h testified against him. He was sentenced and put to death. Supposedly, she was there and watched his execution. h feels a lot of guilt and blames herself. She changed her whole identity. She is afraid H is just like Emerson.
————-

All in the background, things keep happening to h. She gets anonymous texts, videos, etc…..it’s all leading her to think H really is a bad guy. Her friend, Winter, gets attacked, and she’s in a coma (Winter is the next book)
h just will not trust H. She finds “evidence” that H is the one who has done all the bad stuff, and she snitches to Snow (who is the leader of the Gods, and he’s H from book 1), and they sentence H to death. 😱 (don’t worry. He breaks out of jail in time to save h lol)

Well, Emerson is NOT dead. (Not a shocker) He has set all this up. He was also drugging h’s stuff to make her think she was crazy and seeing things.

Let me pause for a second because this whole Emerson plot has so many holes and things that make no damn sense.
💡1. How was he able to be put to death so quickly after he was found guilty? Even death row inmates in Texas don’t get death that fast.
💡2. How was he able to switch out bodies? I know it said he was a member of his own club, but still…it’s so OTT unbelievable.
💡3. Emerson was so obsessed with h, so he followed her around for months, watching her have smex with H? Umm, he never thought of just ☠️ H? Why go through all the trouble of pinning this stuff on H?
💡4. Emerson did all this ONLY to end up burying her alive? Why? Maybe I’M the crazy one, but this just doesn’t seem like something his character would do.

Well, anyway, I’m glad h delivered the death blow to Emerson. h finally admits to H that she loves him and that he’s not like Emerson (huh?) h needs some serious therapy.
Then Winter wakes up from her coma, and she has amnesia 😬😬😩 (one of my most hated tropes) I doubt I’ll read book 3.

Final thoughts….
There was spice in this book, but I have to admit that some of it was cringeworthy. I never felt like it was spicy hot, more like spicy uncomfortable. Sometimes it would explain that he moves her panties to the side, sticks it in, then she feels his warm release. It never mentioned if she got anything out of it. 🤷‍♀️ It is probably a ME thing but I didn’t enjoy it.

H was an okay character; he’s definitely OTT/possessive- I just thought his whole dynamic with the God’s club was strange. Usually, the bros in secret clubs are all tight-knit, BFFs, and have each other’s backs. That wasn’t the case here.

I don’t like the girls’ group at all. 🤷‍♀️ I don’t think I even like any of the girls.

I said in my review from book 1 that I don’t think Bailey died. I still don’t think she’s dead. I’m convinced Jameson is hiding her. I bet their book will be the last one.

Treacherous God is the second book in The Gods of North Haven University series. It can be read as a standalone, but it’s much better enjoyed as a series. Irvin Ashford was calculating, twisted, manipulative, and yet I could not help but fall for him. His actions towards Lilac were sometimes red flag warnings. However, there was no doubt that he was very much in love with her based on how he treated her when it came to her health and her happiness. All he wants her to be is happy and of course in love with him. He knows she feels something for him, but she’s extremely stubborn and refuses to admit it. He tricked her into marriage, making her believe it would be temporary, but knowing there’s no way he would ever divorce her. What happens when she finds out!

Lilac has been enjoying her time with Irvin, but she knows they’re not meant to be together so she ends it. When he asks her to be his temporary wife, she accepts because that’ll give her more time with him and help him with whatever he needs. She doesn’t want to get too close though because she hasn’t been completely honest about who she is. She is worried that the minute Irvin finds out he will leave her and not want anything to do with her. When she finds out the marriage is as real as it gets, she wants out. She refuses to admit that she has feelings for him, but he is not gonna make it easy for her. Unfortunately, she knows he will do whatever it takes to keep her so she will do whatever it takes for him to leave her. who will win?

J.M. Stoneback had me crying and yelling. I was sucked in from the first chapter. I felt so bad for Lilac with her story. I also felt bad for Irvin because he really does love her. I might have to question my morals, but I thought some of the stuff he did was cute because it was all for her. The chemistry was insane. They were a perfect match. Even when he was making her face her own feelings, and he was manipulating her. I was still rooting for him. I wanted them to be together since the beginning. I love the friendships between the girls and the way the guys act with each other. It was definitely a roller coaster. It’s filled with drama, humor, angst, heat, betrayal, secrets, and some insane twists. That cliffhanger ending had me turning the pages like if there was gonna be a sneak peek I cannot wait for the next one.

Psychological Roller-coaster for both Irvin & Lilac.

Soooo much to work through when you read this story. Lyrical and Snow do make many appearances but so does Winter and her future husband as well as Jameson and his future wife will pop in so we can see how they can work out or not since Jameson is still in love with Snow's sister still. But I belive Jameson is next in line for his and Winter will have to either regain her memories or build new ones.

They met a year ago, she came to him for his sexual pleasures she craves and rumors brought her to him, he would never touch another woman just his Lilac and she ruined him for good for her. When she learned he was engaged she broke it off with him, but he will get married but not to any other but her, his trap is set for his future, but Lilac will never see it coming, he'll make sure of it.

Irvin Ashford, 23, future COO of the American Billionaire Club. Will not marry the girl he was arranged to marry, nor any other but his princess. He is Obsessive. Possessive. Manipulating. Compulsive. Controlling. Diagnosed with ASPD, antisocial personality disorder when he was 14 by 'trained' psychiatrist, a wife from a fellow ABC member, mother to Jameson (fellow God), who turned around and raped him for 5 years. He has one thing on his mind and its his future wife, either thee board gives him their blessings, trials or he will step down and walk away, he wants Lilac as his and his only. But to get her fully he must she her his only way to love him back but its not how normal people are but his insane controlling game.

Lilac 'Princess' Lauren/ Paige Colson, early 20s. Battling keeping her past separate and covered from her now while battling PTSD. She is in hiding from her past, due to who she unintendedly manipulated did to and what happened to her parents by her actions and the actions afterwards. Lilac is NOT clearheaded after 5 years later, and her parents death still effectors her to blackout episodes even hallucinates her dead psychotic rapist of a foster brother haunting her new life or is he really there?

Irwin and Lilac’s story is indeed very dark, it is disturbing and Irwin’s obsession with Lilac is psychologically manipulative—everything the author warns readers about at the beginning of the book. And… I was there for it all!

Their romance is very unconventional but not just on Irwin’s side, Lilac has her demons to fight as well. As much as he pushes Lilac into a full-on relationship she pulls back just as hard. The passion they share is intense and explosive.

There is an aura of mystery around Lilac that is incredibly intriguing, the author carefully hooks readers then reels them in superbly. I loved the twists and turns in the storyline, be prepared to be unprepared!

Psychological horror and thriller is the subplot of violence, with stalking, and mental health issues like extreme obsessiveness. Irwin is the master manipulator like a puppeteer controlling his puppet Lilac. Although she obviously objects, I felt deep down she needed Irwin, needed someone to be there for her, especially when things take an even darker turn with a killer on the loose. The suspense in this story is phenomenal.

I loved the first book, Ruthless God, and couldn’t wait for this second book—it was worth the wait.

This book was a very dark and a mind f* read. It is full of twists and turns that are sure to give you a thrill. It has many trigger warnings that should be taken into consideration before reading. Some triggers are murder, stalking, obsessive controlling behaviours, infidelity, dark sexual scenes, drugging, emotional abuse, gas lighting and so much more. So don't take these lightly.

This psychological horror is a rollercoaster ride of emotion and crazy. Irvin is the master manipulator. No matter how many times Lilac tries to manipulate him into letting her go, he is always one more step ahead. A serious cat and mouse game. I believe that deep down Lilac actually loves the game, no matter how much she denies it. Add in a serial killer and you got yourself a dark romance.

Irvin is very controlling and obsessive. At times it seems a bit much and hard to take. Lilac seems like she wants to be independent and alone, but she can't seem to resist Irvin. He has a magnetic pull unlike any other she has ever seen. Their relationship has many secrets and some are revealed slowly throughout the book.

Overall this book is crazy good and dark. The heat levels are high and the suspense is to die for. The author did an excellent job of telling the story, laying out all the twists and turns perfectly. Even though this is book two in the series it can be read as a standalone. I did not read the first book and still felt as if this book had all the information I needed. I did not feel lost at all. I truly enjoyed this book and could not put it down. It was perfection. I can't wait to read more about the Gods of North Haven University.

My first book by JM Stoneback but definitely won't be my last.

I love me some dark, psychological stories and this one is definitely check the boxes.

The blurb is all you need to know about what happens on the pages in this book.

Is this a standalone - yes, because it focuses mostly on Irvin and Lilac - both them as individuals and their relationship. However, I would consider this more of an inner-connected standalone because I did feel like I was missing things and wanted a stronger connection to all the characters and how they are all intertwined.

The story itself is very intriguing, gripping and Stoneback knows how to deliver the right pieces at the right times as the story moves along. I love the suspense and the twists thrown throughout the story. I am a thriller and suspense reader, and while my spidey senses were tingling, I was floored with the revelations.

With that said - I would have loved to given this 5 stars - however, I am new reader to Stoneback, and the writing style is different from what I am used to. So, while I felt engaged the whole time, I also struggled at times with the writing style and flow, but not enough to harm my enjoyment fully. This along with needing to have read book one to get a full introduction to everyone, kept this one at 4 star for me.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I will go back and read Ruthless God and I am looking forward to reading Malevolent God and Wrathful God later this year.

I’m a big fan of Ms. Stoneback and to say I was thrilled about reading this book would be an understatement. Treacherous God is book two in the series. But can be absolutely read as a standalone. But I would highly recommend reading Ruthless God, which was also a five star read for me.
The minute I started this book I was sucked in right away. I love when a book has my complete attention the moment I start reading it. I was so invested in Irvin and Lilac from beginning to end.
Irvin is a complex and intriguing character. His past was heavy and sad. He has a need to control his surroundings and those in his life. His obsession with Lilac is unhinged and extreme.
But it’s the only way he knows.
Lilac is also an interesting character. Her past has shaped her into what she’s become.
I thought she had great inner strength and determination. Her resilience and resolve to keep going forward was a testament to her strength.
But at times she had me so annoyed with her perception of Irvin.
Yes he’s very unpredictable. But when it comes to Lilac she was his one and only.
I think she was scared to face her feelings for him.
The chemistry between them is explosive and hot.
But their bond and connection is what did it for me. I loved how Irvin was so protective and caring of Lilac. He stole pieces of my heart every time he said her if she’s eaten.
Their story is thrilling, captivating and gripping.
Filled with drama and suspense and I loved every minute of it.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the story of Lilac and Ivan. After you read this book and you think of a morally grey character, you will always think of Ivan. I also have to say that I love a good secret society and this book has one of those. But shhhhhh.... I can't tell you what it is of course. Lilac has been though some traumatic things in life. And she really is still going through it. I also love a good stalker story and that's ramped up in this book. Ivan is a very manipulative, calculation and quite twisted man. However, no matter how hard or how much you don't want to fall in love with him you will. You will never be able to doubt his feelings for Lilac. All he wants in life is for Lilac to be happy. However, her feelings for him might not be the love he wants her to feel. Like I said this girl has been through it. She is willing to do whatever it takes though to spend time with Ivan, even if deep in her heart she knows they are not right for each other. But she is not telling Ivan the whole truth and knows the second he finds that she isn't being honest that he will kick her to the curb and have nothing to do with her. This book does suck you in and you will not lay it down until you are finished. I loved every second of it.

The second book in the 'The Gods of the North Haven University' series, this is a psychological thriller with the emphasis on 'psychological'.
J. M. Stoneback pulls the reader straight into the mind of Lilac who suffers from PTSD due to a terrible trauma from her past.

"After graduation, I’m going to disappear from this place. Might get a new name— I don’t know yet. I feel like I’m going to be running for the rest of my life, running from the past. I’ll never have a place I can truly call home."

Lilac was attracted to Irvin who has been diagnosed as a psychopath, until she realized that he has to marry someone of his father's choosing. She broke things off with him, but he's decided that she will be his. He won't physically hurt her, but he has to be in control.

"And Lilac will learn the truth the hard way: the most dangerous thing about loving me isn’t what I’ll do to her— it’s what she’ll become when she can no longer imagine life without me."

This deeply angsty and psychological thriller is a departure from the first book in the series. It draws you directly into Lilac's struggles and gives you a glimpse into the strange workings of Irvin's mind. All in all, this book is engaging in a very scary way. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and am leaving a completely honest review.

M. Stoneback really came through with Treacherous God. This one is intense, messy, and exactly the kind of dark college romance I love.

Irwin is a full on walking red flag in the best way. Cold, calculated, and completely ruthless, he chooses Lilac purely to lock in his spot in the secret society. What starts as a fake marriage for his own gain turns into something way more toxic and consuming. Lilac thinks she’ll be able to walk away when it’s over… but Irwin was never planning to let her go.

The dynamic between them is wild. It’s that push and pull that’s raw, toxic, and impossible to look away from. The obsession, the control, the mind games… it all builds so well. Lilac comes across sweet at first but she’s stronger than she looks, and watching her get pulled deeper into Irwin’s world had me hooked the whole time.

There’s a good mix of psychological tension and that secret society drama running underneath it all, which just adds to the chaos. The spice hits, but it’s the obsession and power plays that really make it.

If you’re into possessive anti heroes, fake marriage that goes off the rails, and dark college settings with secret societies, this one absolutely delivers.

Treacherous God is the second story in The Gods of North Haven University series. It is a suspenseful and psychological story.

Irvin has been obsessed with Lilac ever since he first met her. She doesn't feel the same way about him. Irvin's father tells him that he has to marry by his graduation from college in order to obtain his status in the secret society they are in. It is an elite society for wealthy people. Irvin is determined to get Lilac to marry him. She has her own issues from her past. She is keeping secrets about who she really is. Although she is attracted to Irvin she doesn't see a future with him so she ends the relationship. Irvin is refusing to give up on her and asks her to be his temporary wife in order to gain status in the society.

I loved how Irvin was so obsessed with Lilac and didn't care about her past. He was determined to have her. They had such great chemistry. Their story is filled with secrets and suspense. I look forward to the next one.

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy for an honest review.

What a rollercoaster of emotions these two characters went through. Irvin and Lilac had such a toxic relationship but sometimes those are the best kinds of love right!

Lilac has a past that she has been keeping tight lipped about, she doesn't want anyone knowing about it and especially not Irvin. But Irvin is so fixated on her that he wouldn't care if she was a serial killer, for all he knows. His love for her goes over and beyond what anyone can imagine. He goes against the Gods on the arranged marriage they had planned for him. The only person he wants is Lilac and vows that she will be by his side at whatever cost.

I thought this book was just as good as Ruthless God, I am obsessed with this world and this crazy society. I'm obsessed with these ruthless men. The push and pull between them was just so consuming, the tug of war they kept having with each other. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!!

After book one I was ready to get back into the action with these characters because of the intensity and over the top possessive men. Lilac and Irvin’s story is a twisted one full of manipulation, secrets, and deep-rooted fear of falling. While I enjoyed Irvin, even if he was insanely over the top, I found myself having trouble connecting with Lilac. She wanted him, didn’t want him, knew she was falling for him, yet refuses to fall for him and it went on like this the entire story even up to almost the very end. She tried her hardest to make him hate her and I honestly did at one point and thought he would be better to walk away, but then it wouldn’t be their story if he did. Yes, he is unhinged, and can be manipulative, but she went from being this tough girl to crying constantly, then doing everything she could to force his hand. I truly enjoyed certain aspects of the stories like getting to see other characters, wanting to get the other guy’s stories, and loving the intensity they have, but the push and pull and mostly push Lilac did towards Irvin had me not liking her.

This is the second book in this impressive series, and this is Lilac and Irvin’s story.
Irvin has loved Lilac since the moment he met her, but she hates him, and when he needs a wife by graduation in order to become the COO of an American Billionaire Club a secret society so exclusive even the elite struggle to get in, he tricks her into signing a marriage license.
Be aware of the trigger warnings due to sensitive content!
This is a well written emotionally charged story, with family, friendships, tension, angst, suspense, intrigue, secret society, secret identity, stalking, obsession, trauma, abuse, multi-faceted characters, morally gray, trust, loyalty, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, haunting, twisted, and unpredictable, dark college romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I love these characters and this world so much and I can't wait to continue this series and get to know the rest of the characters better. Each book in this series is a standalone but it is best if you read them in order to understand what is going on. I had to go back and reread book 1 because I was lost and confused in this one.

While this book is about a different couple it does pick up almost exactly where the last one picks up, maybe a few months later. You see all the same characters again too. However, I felt like this book was a little predictable as I guessed about half of the stuff that was going to happen before it did. I still absolutely loved this book and would highly recommend it.

If I could do more I absolutely would- Irvin and Lilac love story is not your run of the mill store. There is obsession and control and a display of love in a way they can handle. I can not get enough of this series. This is the kind of love every dark romance girlie dreams of. 5 stars- Tasha

First and foremost, I would totally give this book at least 7 stars if I could!!Oh my Wow!! I am a slow reader, it takes me days to weeks to finish a book. I had this amazing book read in two days. Definitely read the trigger warnings because this romantic thriller is not for everyone. The relationship between Lilac & Irvin is definitely toxic, but it adds to the book. They both have some major issues but are definitely made for each other.- Elizabeth

First off I loved how unhinged the MMC is. He is obsessed with FMC. Morally black, protective, jealous, possessive all the things. Touch her and I’ll burn this entire city down. I found the FMC annoying. I know she has extreme trauma and hidden identity but it’s so repetitive I kept feeling I was reading the same thing over and over again. To the point I wanted to just skip the pages to get to the end of the book. But that being said. The tension, buildup was so good. Their relationship is so steamy and the spicy scenes are so well written and I enjoyed it tremendously. The MMC carries this story for me hands down! I loved him. 3.5 stars-Kerin

Treacherous God is a wild, dark ride that had me hooked from the first page. The tension between Irwin and Lilac is electric, charged with obsession, intensity, and a constant sense of danger. Their chemistry is fire and every interaction pulses with desire, every exchange with stakes that keep you on edge. Irwin is calculated, possessive, and utterly relentless in his devotion, while Lilac matches him with equal sparks of defiance and passion.

The banter is sharp, the suspense high, and the romance is as twisted as it is addictive. The story’s world of secret societies, high-stakes games, and psychological tension keeps you turning pages until the very end.

Lilac and Irvin

It may take a little while for you to get into Irvin. He is blunt and a bit manipulative. He doesn’t lie to Lilac but his actions could be suspect. There are plenty of secrets kept. He loves Lilac and is totally obsessed with her.
Lilac loves the thrill of the darkness. She is in a marriage based in secrets. She has to learn to adapt and live in a world where she is emotionally challenged.
The supporting cast definitely has the potential to make the story better. Good or bad they helped make the plot even more interesting.

The second of the series, following on the heels of Ruthless God. This is NOT a standalone, for anything in this to make sense, you need to read Ruthless God first. This is a different couple, but these flow from one book to the next. I'm gonna say, I was not expecting the story that we got, I mean, I know after Snow and Lyrical's story and the twists that their story took, I should not be surprised that this would be just as much of a roller coaster ride. The twists and turns this story took had me hanging on the edge of my seat! I love a story that is unpredictable and that is just what Lilac and Irvin give us. I give this 5 unhinged stars!

As promised, this book is dark as it tells Irvin's story with Lilac. It i intense and filled with characters skirting around the very, very edge of acceptability. He is obsessed and determined that no matter what, she will belong to him, and, although Lilac constantly protests that this will not happen, she relents. This did frustrate me somewhat at times.
I did not find the things that the TWs warn about unusual for this genre of book, but I found myself unable to relate to either characters to any extent, added to which there was a sense of remoteness from some of the other characters. This was, indeed a dark read with which I did not quite connect.I do appreciate the addition to the series which I have enjoyed. 💖💖💖💖

"Lilac was supposed to be leverage." OMG. And so it begins!

"It was meant to erase the version of her that existed before me."
Ms. Stoneback did an exceptional job of changing me alongside Lilac!

WOW!
INTENSE!
DARK!
CRAZY!

And with each page turn, I went deeper and deeper and DEEPER!

Irwin and Lilac's story had my heart racing!

What will this amazing story do to you?

buckle up because this one is a wild ride. Irwin is the epitome of a narcissist. he's twisted but owns it. I can respect that. and he wants Lilac so he can get into the elitist club. he wants to marry her and he does because it'll look better to the club.
but lilac isn't all rainbows and sunshine. she's got a dark side too.
the twists and turns gave me whiplash. but it was so worth it.
this is one of the craziest, yet darkly satisfying books I've read. I loved every minute of it

I wasn't sure about this one for the first 30%. Irvin is definitely obsessed and determined. He is so different than I expected tho even when being over the top you can tell its more than obsession. Lilac is more emotional than I expected but she also loves the dynamic between her and Irvin. These two are electric together and I think she's just as obsessed with him as he is her. I really wasn't thrown by the ending.
