Brooklyn Kings #2

L'ennemi qui me soumet

Rate this book
Pierce

LK Shaw Brooklyn Kings bk 02 The Enemy in My Bed

3.5 stars - I've read plenty of over-the-top books. In most cases, it works. In this case, I felt like Pierce DeLuca and Mila were shafted. I was left feeling like their story was only half told.

This was my first time with this author. I will try again, because even though I believe there's more to tell here, I do like the overall arc.

A few things to note. One, there are plenty of hints to the first book, so this should likely be read in order, but I was able to follow along fine. Two, this is more of an HFN. As the lead in for the next book was provided, it's possible their HEA comes later in the series. Three, there are some content warnings that you may want to heed, most of it is offscreen - non-con, violence, and abuse are the biggest ones.

Oh, one other thing. This is supposed to be 290 pages, but based on the listening time of the audio, I'd put it at about half that length. That's either some creative formatting or a misprint.

I won a copy of the audio book. The narrators are Eva Caine and Walker Williams. Both are new to me, and I liked them a lot. The accents weren't consistent, but I still enjoyed the experience.

Story: 3.5 stars
Narration: 4 stars

This is the second book in the Brooklyn Kings series and we get Pierce and Mila's story. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about Pierce but as the story unfolds, I found myself really liking him. Yes, he's brutal and rough but the more he learns about MIla and what she is doing, the more you can see his feelings towards her changing. I won't give away the reason why Mila is involved with the Russian's but it made me like her even more. Getting to see more of Jacob and Brenna is a plus as I loved their story. Will Pierce be able to help Mila or will the danger of the situation catch up with them? Well, you're just going to have to get the book and find out! Even though this is the second book in a series, it can be read as a standalone but you might as well read The Enemy I Don't Know to get everyone's background! If you like mafia stories, this one is right up there at the top for me!

Recently, I craved some mafia hot romance, so the Enemy in My Bed seemed like a great idea. It was a pretty fast read, which is almost always a plus for me, and I enjoyed the few smexy times.

It has a lot of background of the family and the mafia "business", which is actually sex trafficing, the heroine, her sister and some other characters are the victims. That's probably the only trigger warning, otherwise it's a completely safe book.

Not gonna read the whole series, but definitely will try some of the other books.

Book 2 in the Brooklyn Kings Series!!!

We are given Mila and Pierce’s story. It’s a bit more darker than Book 1. But if a series doesn’t evolve and get more complicated, then how else will we enjoy it?

Totally looking forward to Book 3. I have a feeling that one will be even better, the world that LK has built for us is that amazing. She seems to up the ante with each installment.

Recommend for those Mafia lovers that also like a trafficking story thrown in the mix.I love how characters from different books come together to save those that are being abused.

THE ENEMY IN MY BED by LK Shaw

This second book of LK Shaw's new series, Brooklyn Kings, is a great sequel to The Devil I Don't Know. This time it's about Pierce and Mila, both mentally and physically damaged by their childhoods, who need each other desperately because of them.

I am in love with Pierce, and in awe of Mila, and I didn't want this story to end. I needed a little more of their getting to know each other and falling in love. I'm a hopeless romantic - what can I say? I do love the way both of them soak up the goodness they are sharing with each other. Love can heal a multitude of hurts and pains and sins, and both Pierce and Mila needed love enormously.

LK Shaw's writing just gets better, and am looking forward to the 3rd book, The Beast I Can't Tame.

This is the second book in the Brooklyn Kings series and our main couple is Pierce and Mila. I enjoyed this book, but I will say the first one has been my favorite so far. Pierce and Mila start off as enemies when he kidnaps her while she is trying to escape the situation at the end of the first book. He is immediately fascinated with her but uses her weaknesses against her in order to get answers. I wasn't too sure about him at first but he grew on me a bit by the end. I loved Mila's character and thought she was strong. There are themes of SA and torture throughout so be cautious if you need to. Some things I didn't like were there were some instances of spelling and grammar mistakes, and I feel like we didn't really get to see a relationship between our MC's develop other than their physical one. Much like with the first book, I wish we would have gotten a glimpse into their future.

Good read!!

Mila and Pierce’s story was well written and intriguing. My only complaint is I feel her books just get into the grit and then they stop. I assume they fall in love, but she gets revenge and then we are at the reception. I feel like we get the HEA… but we have to imagine it. Maybe it goes into more depth in the next book. I just felt like we knew how Jacob and Brenna felt about each. I do realize she has a lot of healing too, but Anya was kind of left out too.

Continuation as Pierce sets about his interrogation of Mila, the Russian who freed Brenna

Mila had known fear and she had known pain beyond imagination as it had been applied to her all those years ago by her torturer who had disappeared. She had been held as a prisoner by the Russian who Pierce and Jacob had actioned the demise of, a fact she had been totally devastated by as she had wanted Mikhail to die by her hand.

Pierce is totally unprepared for the woman and her strength, her honesty when she decides to tell him her story humbles him and when he shares the information with his cousin Jacob. They discover that there is a trafficking ring in their town being orchestrated by the Russians and the Greeks this is a total surprise, to discover that this has been orchestrated in their own back yard is something they will stop, all involved will be made to pay.

As Pierce and Mila become more acquainted and she tells him about her younger sister Anya who she believes had been sold by Mikhail to the Greeks and he is determined that he will find her and return her to Mila where she will be safe and have time to recover from her trauma.

I do not want to spoil the plot for readers by giving away too much information, all that I can assure you is that you will enjoy this as much as the previous books. The characters and the plot as always are excellent, the flow of the story holds you riveted to the very last page.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

Oh Pierce! You are brutal. Cold. Angry. Deadly. But we can’t help but be drawn to you. And neither can Mila. Even though you kidnapped her!

This is book 2 in the Brooklyn Kings series and much darker than Jacob and Brenna’s story in book 1……….but also a well written, intriguing tale. An easy read, but be prepared for the dark mafia undertones. Mila is Russian. Pierce is the bodyguard (and cousin) to the head of the Italian mafia family. Who’s married to an Irish granddaughter of the head of THAT FAMILY. Confused ? Don’t be. Oh. And. Pierce hates the Russians who tortured his young sister. Wants to kill every last one. Then why can’t he stop caring about Mila? The more he learns about her, the more his cold dead heart comes to life.

I’m all for dark, deadly men who discover the right woman to crack open their hearts. Love those books. But. What I really love about this particular series is the women! These are strong women with pasts that should have wrecked them. But. They discover their inner strength. They stand up and defy these deadly mobsters. Mila may have been kidnapped but she discovers what’s behind the cold deadly Pierce at the same time he lets emotions other than anger come to light. Oh. I can’t wait to read Francesca and Gino’s story next!

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "THE ENEMY IN MY BED". This is an excellent series & this is one book you don't want to miss reading so addicting it holds your interest to last page.
Pierce takes Mila captive as revenge to the Russians who have taken everything from him he thinks she be the key to their end.
Mila has known brutal pain all her life thinking it'll be better with Pierce but they are two very damaged souls come together the more time their together feelings start to change between them.
Pierce finds out the Russians have been involved in human trafficking in his own backyard something he will end also he promises Mila he'll help her find her sister.
I loved the journey Mila & Pierce take you on in this intense drama to get their HEA.
I definitely recommend to get this amazing book so well worth the read the characters pull you tight into all the chaos such a great read you can't put down until finished I'm so looking forward to

Such a good read! I have been looking forward to Pierce's story fever since I read the first Brooklyn Kings novel. Pierce was so hard and didn't show anyone mercy, but he started to feel certain things around Mila and that made him feel uncomfortable because he thought that made him weak, also, she was his enemy. Mila wanted to hate Pierce for holding her captive but found herself having trouble with that too. Such a good exciting and interesting read. I love enemies to lovers stories. I do wish that there was a little more drama to the story than just Pierce helping to get Mila's sister back. This book did have me glued to the pages until I was done and I am excited for the next story about Francesca and Giovanni. I definitely recommend this whole series. I received a review copy of this story from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

Loved Pierce and Mila. I knew how dark he could be but we got to see part of what made him that way and the softness Mila brings out of him as well.

After the rescue of Brenna (read the first book) Pierce takes a hostage. When he gets her to his playroom he realizes that it actually a woman in disguise. She may have information they can use against their enemies. And when intimidation doesn't get him answers he decides seduction will.

Mila wasn't there at the Russian compound by choice. She had gone there to get revenge but when she was discovered she became a prisoner. When she sees Pierce she is sure death has come to finally take her.

When Pierce finally learns the torture she suffered he vows to find the man who first tortured Mila and played mind games with her.

This is the second LK Shaw book I have picked up and not put down until 1am. The well-written plotline, the characters, the events and feelings – all of it sucks you in from the beginning. This story is part continuation/part new from book one, so there was no way I was not going to dive in; I needed to know what happened next and I’m sure it will be that way for the next book too. I would definitely read this series in order due to overlapping and continuing situations.

The Enemy in My Bed is Pierce and Mila’s story and it’s darker and more intense and the emotions run much higher. Pierce and Mila are both damaged from their pasts and have a lot of baggage to work through to even entertain the possibility of a happy ending. But little by little, with communication, trust, and care the walls come down and the healing begins. There’s tragedy, trauma, and a bucket load of feelings to sort but they don’t give up and they fight their way to their HEA. An absolutely fabulous read!

Pierce is kind of an evil guy at the beginning of this book, but the more you get to know him you realize he has trust issues, past trauma in his own life and crappy communication skills. Unfortunately Mila doesn't have it much better. These two broken people find each other and put each other back together again, with a little love, dominance and grit. This isn't the boy next door, good two shoes girl who hold hands on the porch swing, but if you know that and can accept it, this is an amazing story of two people who learn to trust and love. I'm really looking forward to Francesca and Gio.

LK keeps you on the edge of a cliff with Pierce and Mila’s story
I warn you to not start this book near bedtime, as you will not be able to put it down until you finish it. Case in point, I was up till 3am. With that said, I hated Pierce in the beginning for his treatment of Mila. Yet as Pierce discovers Mila secrets and her own hatred of his enemy, I fell in love with his determination to piece Mila back together. Mila is “just what the doctor ordered” as Pierce’s female protagonist from the get-go, breaking Pierce’s fortress around his heart. I loved everything about this story from the suspense to the unusual route to one hot and steamy romance! I can’t wait for The Beast I Can’t Tame!

Loved reading the exciting and engaging second book in the Brooklyn King series written by the extraordinary and sensational author, L.K. Shaw. When Pierce takes Mila captive, he is determined to find out everything she knows about his enemy, the Russians. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written full of suspense, mystery, and romance, and a riveting story of two enemies finding themselves unable to resist being pulled together by passion. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

The Enemy In My Bed is book two in the Brooklyn Kings series and is Pierce and Mila's story. This book does overlap a bit in the beginning so if you haven't read The Devil I Don't Know, start there first. Pierce and Mila's book is intense and steamy. We get to know Pierce more and find out there's a lot more to him behind his tough exterior. I definitely recommend this book and can't wait to read more.

Wow!!!

So, I loved this story. I really didn't like the H at first. Major Alpha-hole, but he redeems himself halfway thru, but keeps true to his alpha-ness at the same time. I loved the h in this one. This seemed a bit darker of a story/relationship than the 1st book. I already have the 3rd book on my tbr list for September!

Tough guy has a heart

These books are well written with believable characters. It is a dark romance but you can understand the characters feelings and insecurity even when the hero is supposed to be a tough guy

Intense, Gritty and Sensual Story!!

Battle of the Mafias - Pierce is set on revenge. Mila is his captive, yet he is the kindest captor she has had yet. Family, politics, and greed at war with caring and tenderness.

To say more would be to give plot away - just know this will stick with you for quite some time.

HEA?

Where the hell was the happy ending? No official commitment to one another, no "I love you", no closure between Pierce and Mila. It just ends. What a crock of shit and a waste of money!
