I seem to like to read about super powerful women who are, like, super powerful and stuff. Plus, they like hiding just how powerful they are. You know, found in many books I've read, but specifically the previous book I read about the Invincible Lady, and here, Yuna.

Right, so, just like I said with that prior book I read, I mean the previous book I read not the previous book in this series, my views and opinions might have been different if I'd read book 17 immediately after book 16. But this specific series, and this specific book, is on a higher quality plane than that other series. It's more an issue of length . . . or something like that.

A bunch of events happen, and the books aren't exactly short, but they are written in a certain way that kind of leaves the reader wanting more, not that things are lacking/missing, but more in that they, the reader, want to continue, gulp down more about this character. So there's a difference in 'feeling' when you get to gulp down 16 books in a row, versus just reading one book by itself. Right.

Book opens with Yuna (lead and person originally from Earth, wears a bear onsie), Fina (human), and Luimin (elf) exploring a dwarf town, one they were in at the end of the previous book, wandering around, talking with people, meeting adventurers they'd meet before, meeting merchants they had meet before, etc. While there, the town is having a competition, one wherein blacksmiths test their weapons in a particular cave, they they don't wield the weapons themselves, they get 'champions' to do it. Yuna wants to do it too, but doesn't have a weapon to champion, until she does. And competes.

Also, as the book description puts it "[d]uring her exploration, she meets the blacksmith Lojina, who trained Gold and Gahzal, as well as his daughter Lilyka." Now I mention that because Lojina, and his wife, ask Yuna to travel with Lilyka to the capital so she can be with Gahzal (if that's the one in the capital, I wasn't paying close attention to the dwarf blacksmith names). So that's part of this book here - Yuna helping Lilyka reach the capital. It's a super brief part of the book, but it's in there.

Let's see. Bunch of traveling around. A bunch of wanting to sleep but getting dragged out of lazing around. Visiting the capital (again, this separate trip) to causally wander the royal castle, bumping into the King, princesses, etc.

This is one of those 'pulled earth to a fantasy-land' type books, which I remind readers again so I can note: Yuna was a rich-shut-in-gamer when she lived in her Japanese apartment in Japan prior to wandering to this land. She didn't wander much, outside I mean, nor have romances (nor, perchance, sex). I mention this so I can note that this particular lack of romance and sex continues, and I'm not sure if Yuna is asexual/aromantic, or just hasn't gotten around to thinking about these kinds of things. So no, there's no romance or sex in this book.

Should you read the prior books before reading this one? Yes, start with book one.
Do I recommend the series? Yes, though not if you are looking for any kind of romance. There isn't any.

This was fun. I liked the trials, and the second half too. Plus, that ending? I’m so excited for the next one!

That said, I really didn’t like how much screen time and pov time Toya got - he was so annoying and I absolutely didn’t care. He’s a “manly man” with an inferiority complex. We absolutely didn’t need 4 whole chapters from him.

Also: Senia, babe - how do you not know how powerful Yuna is by now? She does not need your help taking down a boar, she’s more than capable! You’ve been on many adventures with her by now, so keep up…

Anyway, that was the low part in an otherwise fun adventure.

Can’t wait for the next book! And to see what land Yuna has discovered!! (Is it the Land of Wa? Somewhere else??)

These are always so good. They're always in my top 3 series no matter who asks. I was in a bit of a slump before reading this, and it set me right back onto reading again. Somehow it manages that classic kuma bear thing of getting lots of action in but without losing that feeling of being super chill and cosy. I love it!
