With the sudden death of the president, Rooster is forced to take over the motorcycle club his grandfather founded decades earlier. Not prepared for the role of protecting every aspect and affiliate of the club, he is thrown into the deep end when a serial killer targets the women associated with Black Alchemy Motorcycle Club.
Leaving her old life behind, Mila Rice is excited to take up a new post teaching at Bryson City High. The last thing she expected to find was a rough, swearing, all ’round frustrating and irresistible biker getting up in her business. Unable to avoid him and his family, she is drawn into his dangerous world.
Revenge fed by a grudge. He hunts them. They are weak. They are easy. The ladies of Black Alchemy are practice.
Then there is Mila.
She is his prize and therefore, she shall be mine.
Rooster is the first book in the Boys of Black Alchemy series and wowsers what a chilling and intense read it was. I couldn’t put it down.
Centering around the Black Alchemy Motor Cycle Club, we follow Rooster who has just stepped into the role of president. He wasn’t expecting to be in the role so soon but when tragedy struck, he had no choice. I really enjoyed that we don’t just see his tough exterior, but also the doubts and uncertainty he battles with behind closed doors.
Mila Rice, is new to town. Escaping her past and starting a new teaching position at the school. The last thing she expected though was to run into Rooster repeatedly and she has quite the internal battle with herself trying to resist the attraction she has to him. She was a gutsy and self-confident FMC that you can’t help but love.
Readers are exposed to the club politics, turf wars, women and violence in this book. But…in this case the violence comes in the form of a serial killer targeting women connected to the club. Now that Mila and Rooster are together she catches the attention of the serial killer and all hell breaks loose which will have you devouring this book.
Rooster and Mila have great chemistry and banter and the slow burn soon turns to open door spice. I loved their relationship and the character growth and depth they go through as the story unfolds.
There were just a couple of sections where the story jumped forward a little and I think could have benefited from a paragraph break to prepare the reader. But overall I really enjoyed it and would definitely read book two: Gunner.
⚠️ This book has several trigger warnings and is meant for readers over the age of 18. Heavy topics are discussed so please consider these before reading.

Rooster was a great read. The writing style is how I imagine being on a Harley motorbike would be like; it's a smooth yet thrilling ride, gets your blood pumping, and packs a punch with every twist and turn. The romance has all the warmth and sensitivity, as well as the naughty, steamy heat that leaves you wanting more. Mixing it with the suspense and gore of a serial killer mystery does the same for a whole other reason, giving it a twisted sort of harmony between the two plots. The characters are charming and deep, and I especially loved the split perspectives between Minx, Rooster and the mysterious killer. The dynamics between the Bates family and the brothers of the Black Alchemy MC gives you all that fuzziness and comfort of their loyalty and the harsh disfunctionality between them and their estranged eldest son as they deal with the death of their father and president and the murders of their beloved club girls.
It loses a star, not because of the author, but for the editing. There are punctuation and formatting errors in places. Something went awry with the production of this book, but I hope the author finds a better team for her future work!
Really enjoyed the characters! Has a little bit of raunch with the steamy sex scenes, a little bit of violence with the Motor Cycle Club theme, a serial killer twist, and a love story. Easy to read. Editors could have done a bit better with a few typos and lack of spacing in some places but all in all a good read. Congrats to the author. Look forward to her next release. Rooster
