James Ryker knows the ghosts of his dark and violent past are never far away. Yet he’s still taken aback when he sees Leia Devereaux’s face at his door. Even more surprising is that the woman he knows to be a lethal assassin claims she’s not there to hurt him, but to ask for his help in keeping the stranger accompanying her, David Muller, alive.
She says Muller is more valuable than Ryker can imagine. But Ryker isn’t given any time to investigate before chaos descends upon them. In the aftermath, Devereaux disappears and Ryker is left with only questions.
Why would the deadly Leia Devereaux come to Ryker for help? What did the notorious assassin want with David Muller? Most importantly, who are the armed assailants now out for Ryker’s blood?
To find the answers, Ryker has only one To do what he does best. Fight back…
A fast-paced thriller filled with twists, turns, and intrigue that will grip fans of Mark Dawson and the Jason Bourne novels.
Rob is the author of the critically acclaimed and bestselling Enemy series and James Ryker series of espionage thrillers. His books have sold over half a million copies to date with many reviewers and readers having likened Rob's work to authors at the very top of the genre, including Lee Child and Vince Flynn. Rob began writing in 2009 following a promise to his wife, an avid reader, that he could pen a ‘can’t put down’ thriller. He worked for nearly 13 years for a global accounting firm after graduating from The University of Nottingham in 2002, specialising in forensic fraud investigations at both national and international levels. Rob now writes full time.
Originally from the North East of England, Rob has lived and worked in a number of fast paced cities and is now based near Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife, sons and dog
Rob Sinclair is a master of his trade and this time he rises the stakes to a new level.
For the last couple of books Ryker has dispatched criminals which was hugely entertaining. But this time he is up against a global conspiracy with multiple players and the end result is an especially intriguing thrill ride through multiple countries. And quite possibly Sinclair’s best Ryker adventure yet, bravo!
Had the opportunity to read this before publication, hadn’t realised that it was part of a series! Anyway fantastic, kept me reading and will be catching up with others in the series.
Deception by Rob Sinclair, the sixth installment in the Ryker Returns series is a gripping thriller that follows the story of James Ryker, a former intelligence agent turned recluse. The novel delves into the dangerous world of espionage and deceit, where nothing is as it seems and trust is a rare commodity. From the opening pages, Sinclair sets a tense and fast-paced tone that doesn't let up until the final page.
James Ryker is a complex and compelling protagonist, haunted by his past and struggling to find his place in a world that has moved on without him. His skills are put to the test when he is reluctantly pulled back into the world of espionage to uncover a sinister plot that threatens global security. One day while he is enjoying some downtime in Rome, he has a surprise visitor and a former acquaintance, Leia Devereaux, who is known to be a lethal assassin. But this time, she was not there to hurt Ryker. Instead, she was accompanying a man named David Muller and wanted Ryker’s help in keeping him alive.
Leia informs that Muller is an important asset in one of her cases. But before Ryker could come to terms with the situation, chaos descends upon them. Soon after Ryker, Leia and Muller make a miraculous escape from the gang of armed unknown assailants, Leia disappears from the scene and Muller falls to his death from a rooftop. Meanwhile. Leia encounters another assassin group belonging to the Mossad who captures and begins to torture her on the whereabouts of potential information that had Muller. The death of Muller has also put Ryker on the wanted list of MI6.
From hereon, the story toggles between Leia’s attempt to free herself from the captors and Ryker’s pursuit of answers about Leia, Muller and their connections. Ryker begins to trace back their steps to the point of origin when Leia and Muller first met. While doing so, he is intermittently faced with adversaries, about whom he does not have a clue. As he delves deeper into the murky waters, the pieces of jigsaw puzzle begin to fall into place. He uncovers a sinister plot of a mass genocide that he has to prevent, save his one-time nemesis, Leia Devereaux and his only saviour and former head of JIC, Peter Winters. James Ryker is left with no choice, but to do what he is best at – Fight back and Fight back hard.
As the plot hurtles towards its explosive conclusion, the tension reaches a fever pitch, with Ryker racing against the clock to prevent a catastrophic event. Sinclair does an excellent job of ratcheting up the suspense, keeping readers glued to the page as they eagerly follow Ryker's every move. The supporting cast of characters is equally well-drawn, each with their motivations and secrets that add depth to the narrative. Whether it's Ryker's enigmatic handler or the elusive villain pulling the strings from the shadows, every character feels fully realized and integral to the story.
Overall, Deception is a masterfully crafted thriller that will appeal to fans of the genre and newcomers alike. With its compelling protagonist, jaw-dropping twists, and relentless action, Rob Sinclair has delivered a pulse-pounding read that will linger in the minds of readers long after they've turned the final page. Whether you're a fan of espionage thrillers or simply looking for a riveting page-turner, Deception is a must-read that will leave you breathless and eager for more. Rob Sinclair has established himself as a formidable voice in the genre, and James Ryker is a character that readers won't soon forget.
Another thrilling entry in the Ryker series by Rob Sinclair (#6). I have read most of Sinclair's novels and enjoyed them all.
Having left the UK secret ops agency that he had been employed by for years, James Ryker is enjoying some down time in Rome when a former acquaintance, Leia Devereaux, turns up at his door with a man named David Muller in tow. In hot pursuit are a gang of unknown assassins. As Ryker leads their escape over neighbouring rooftops Muller is killed. Later Ryker is accused of the killing.
Along the way as they leave Rome behind Ryker and Devereaux end up in a shootout with another group of killers who snatch Deveraux. Ryker then makes his way to the city in Austria and the company where Muller had worked. He gleans sufficient information to raise his level of concern.
Who are these killers and what is their mission? What did Muller know that got him killed? Who is behind a nefarious plot to murder millions?
Ryker in his dogged way pursues these questions to a frightening answer.
Another great thriller by Rob Sinclair.
Thanks to Bloodhound Books for an Advance Review Copy.
This is yet another terrific high octane thriller from this author. This time Ryker is having some down time in Rome when Leia Devereux unexpectedly turns up with a man in tow looking for help. When things turn upside down, Ryker finds himself hunted while at the same time determined to find Devereux and whoever is looking for them.
As well as the usual expected non-stop thrills and action, there are plenty of twists involved and I really didn't know which end was up. Even though I thought I had things figured out, there was another unexpected twist at the end that totally threw me. A terrific read that I didn't want to put down.
My thanks to Bloodhound Books for an advance copy of this and this is my honest review.
This is a great addition to the authors James Ryker series and a book I really enjoyed. The book immediately grabbed my attention from the start and held it all the way through. I thought this is a very well written book which flows easily and overall is a great read. I found it to be a very moreish book, one I struggled to put down, making it a real page turner where I needed to know what would happen next. This book has everything I like - believable characters (mostly), a good plot line, and plenty of thrills and action to keep me entertained. I really liked the unexpected return of an old character and that the story takes place in several countries. If you like a book with lots of action, that is fast paced and thrilling then this is the book for you. Looking forward to the next one.
A 10 page fist fight, followed by a 10 page gun fight, followed by a 10 page motor bike chase followed by a little bit of the story - then repeat.
We all know that some books are made into movies, and usually rate around 6.5 at IMDB. This book feels as if the author has seen a 4.7 rated movie and turned into an even lower rated book. Note to author - movie action scenes do not transfer well to print!
The basis of the story has been used before, but never in such a poor way. In what could have been a great thriller all we were given was the super alpha hero agent that saves the world.
This book was genuinely awful. You have been warned!!!
James Ryker returns to absolute top form in this absolute page turner. Initially living a quiet life in Rome he is soon on the wanted list of MI6, Mossad and other less official sources. His goal, to prevent a genocide against Palestinians in the West Bank; his ally, his former nemesis Leia Devereaux; his potential saviour, his former JIC boss Peter Winter. The action is really well written, probably better than anything Rob Sinclair has previously delivered, the story doesn’t ask for too great a suspension of belief, and the conclusion potentially opens the door to many more Ryker missions, be they official or unofficial.
Another great instalment of the Ryker series. Full of dramatic action and thrilling chases. I enjoyed this book it kept me hooked from the first page to the very end. The torture scenes were gruesome and I did close my eyes a couple of times. I am looking forward to the next one!
Sinclair did a stellar job yet again! Weaving an intricate yarn of terror, intrigue, and good old fashioned "who done it" ! Ryker, the antagonist, mixed the good with the bad in his unique fashion and kept me riveted and guessing right up till the very end! Thank you Rob for another stellar thriller! I look forward to more of your product!
Another great instalment of the James Ryker series. Trouble comes looking for Ryker yet again, except this time a well known female assassin is seeking his help. This leads to Ryker investigating. A gripping action adventure read .
James Ryker is enjoying his retirement. He's living in Rome, not in the most salubrious area. However, he's happy, and all his injuries from previous escapades have healed. Leia Devereaux, a woman from his past, tracked him to Rome with David Muller, the man she was supposed to assassinate. Unfortunately, peace never lasts long in Ryker's life and within minutes of their arrival – Ryker is racing across roofs, trying to save all their lives after a team had used extreme measures to kill the three of them.
James Ryker gets separated from Devereaux after a sniper shoots Muller. He goes on the run, desperately trying to avoid being caught by the gang following Devereaux. Who was David Muller? Why would Leia Devereaux want his help? Can Ryker find the threads and piece them together before it's too late? These questions will take a lot of patience and digging to find answers.
I eventually got to sleep at about 6 am after starting the book at 8 pm. There was no way that I could close either my kindle or my eyes until I'd reached the final page. It was a nerve-wracking ride that I took with my hero, James Ryker, as he raced across Europe pursuing some horrendous damaged psychopathic terrorists hellbent on destroying the lives of innocent people.
I think Rob Sinclair has written one of this series’ best books. Ryker meets up with several people from his past in the novel, and it is lovely to see them re-appear.
My goodness, if you want an action packed read this is another great one from Rob Sinclair. It was so well planned out from the beginning and it left the reader wanting more. I've read many of this authors books and never been disappointed.
I have read all the Carl Logan and James Ryker books and have never been disappointed. A huge pat on the back for the author Rob Sinclair. Lots of action with many twists and turns. A great read. A well deserved 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Rob what can I say that I haven't already said, another day another catastrophe for Ryker, when will he ever learn to mind his own business, but I will say this I cannot wait for the next thrilling, explosive instalment.I await with baited breath.
This was another good read. The story pace was slow at times but well worth it. The ending sets the stage for another installment and the character development and closure was welcomed.
Another great story by Rob Sinclair in the v Ryker returns series. Lots of interesting characters and plenty of action in a number of locations. A very good storyline that kept me gripped right to the end.Looking forward to reading more.
James Ryker returns with more twists and turns than one story should allow. From Italy to Romania and back to England, with allies who are really enemies. This one is hard to figure out.
The book kept my interest throughout. I have come to like the trials of James Ryker, having now read all of the past series and the previous books in this series.
Another great Ryker novel who continuous action, and a sinister plot woven throughout. Different cast of characters, each with their own baggage! Love this character!
Thrilling, fast paced and intriguing read!! Thanks to Bloodhound Books for my ARC of this thriller!! First read from this author but will definitely look for more!
Rob Sinclair is fast becoming my favourite author. His Ryker series are excellent and this book doesn’t let up from the first chapter. Move over Reacher, there’s a new hero on town!
Thrilled to have received an early copy of this book as I have followed the series from the start. Another breathtaking fast actioned thriller that I only put down when I reached the end! Loner James Ryker was enjoying some down time when calm turned to chaos in seconds. Decisions needed to be made...quick! Kill or be killed. Ryker had no intentions of dying anytime soon. Can Ryker find the answers he is looking for and take action before it's too late? It's not just his life in jeopardy. This story is packed with murders, torture, deceit, greed and power. I was taken on a brutal and exciting ride full of intrigue, twists and nail biting action. A well written and compelling read that I highly recommend.
Deception by Rob Sinclair is the sixth book in the brilliant James Ryker series but can be read as a standalone but I do recommend you go back and read the other five, they will not disappoint! James Ryker is finally living a quieter lifestyle in beautiful Rome and he is happy relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere. He gets an unexpected visit from a well known assassin and a woman from his past! Leia Deveraux. However, she is not there to assassin him but to ask for his help! She is not alone she is with the man she was supposed to assassinate David Muller, she needs to keep him alive. But, why?
This book is full of great twists and turns throughout which made it a great book. I loved it
I have been reading the James Ryker from the beginning and have enjoyed all of the books so far, except for this one, not because of the writing or the action but because of the plot. On this book the plot was completely not believable, Mossad agents are portrayed as reckless and making mistakes, when they are completely the opposite and Israel will never asked another country for water technology if it is a country that actually exports this technology and actually gives it for free to countries in need, And because of these points my grading of the book is so low compared to my grading of the other books. Having said the above I do I'm looking forward to the next installment of the series.
This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites. I never hesitate to pick up one of his books. They are full of suspense and action and this one is no different. This is a well developed story where the author used details to make the story come to life on each page, A story that is fast paced, engaging, and full of action. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into the story from the start. They are connectable and add so much to the story. This is an easy story to read and I found it entertaining as well. There is great growth of the plot throughout the story. This is a hard to put down story that you don't want to miss. Find out what happens to Ryker next in this suspenseful story. I highly recommend this booik and this author.
