Whoopie Pie Sisters #1-3

The Divine Secrets of the Whoopie Pie Sisters: The Complete Trilogy

Rate this book
A new trilogy by best-selling author of Amish Christian Romances, Sarah Price, and Helping Hands Press' own Whoopie Pie Pam Jarrell.

Follow the story of four Amish sisters who run Whoopie Pie Place, the best known bakery outside of Berlin, Ohio. Each sister has a secret that influences their lives and, unknowingly, impacts each other. Yet, little by little, the pressure of balancing their responsibilities of their daily lives with their individual secrets becomes harder to manage.

The Divine Secrets of the Whoopie Pie Sisters is a different type of Amish Christian story. By blending the 25 years experience of living among the Amish from Sarah Price with Pamela Jarrell's extensive 15 years experience interacting and befriending the Amish in Berlin, Ohio, Price and Jarrell team up to give the readers a new type of story that focuses not so much on romance but on friendships and the reality of day-to-day life living among the Amish.

This book contains all three of the original “books” plus recipes and hymns from the Ausbund as well as a sneak peek at Whoopie Pie Place, the sequel to this series due out in 2014.

Thank goodness I got this from Kindle Unlimited or I would have been suing Amazon and the author for putting me through Hell! LOL. Even though this was the most depressing book I ever read, I kept going just to see if everything got better-they did not. As a matter of fact, none of the ladies' stories were ever finished -technically you are left hanging not knowing the outcomes of all the sisters.

These are some of the things this book deals with:

Cancer -two kinds, two different people.
Hypochondria-selfishness-lying.
Shunning
Tornado
Alcoholism
Verbal Abuse
Lies
and may other surprising and depressing things.

In this particular day and age, I don't need any more tension in my life and that is what this book gave me. The only reason I gave it two stars is that the writing did compel me to finish it.

I loved this book

Sometimes we think the Amish are above us, but Sarah showed us very kindly and simply, they are truly people just like us, with strong family love and a love for God just like we christian s have. I was so drawn into each character. The many twist and turns that life takes each one of us on, but the love of God and our family, blood or friends, or church family is what helps us straighten out the crooked pats life gives us. I would Love to see another book, show us like years down the road from this book!

Different than the norm

I've read a lot of Amish stories and this one is certainly different from the norm. The intertwined story with issues that face all people makes this relatable and easy to read. It's easy to forget that while people live differently, we all have so much more in common than we think!

Sisterhood

Sometimes your sister is more than just a sister. Sometimes you even work with her/them. This is what the Miller sisters do. They work at the bakery that their mother started, Whoopie Pie Place. This whole book only takes place over a few week period but you won't even notice that because the story will have you flying through it. Meet Leah the oldest sister and now the matron of the family. Susie and Lydia the middle two married sisters and younger sister Sadie. They all work together making Whoopie Pie Place a focal point in their Holmes County Ohio community. What happens to each sister will make you want more. I highly recommend this book by Sarah Price and Pamela Harrell (Whoopie Pie Pam).

Wonderful story

Surprisingly enjoyable story. I say surprisingly because the stories I tend to enjoy about the Amish are usually fairly sanitized. The characters are always attractive, godly, humble and joyful. This was not so in this book. The characters were real and relatable. We all know people who gossip, or have difficulties in their lives but I cared about these sisters. Even when I got annoyed, at times, I still cared. The author deserves kudos for that. The flow to the story was smooth and I enjoyed the technique of reading the result of something before you got the whole story. This was done by employing " earlier in the day" back stories. Loved this.

This was a fun different Amish story from a group of sisters view point. I think it may be a stretch to say that the income from the Whoopie Pie Bakerky was needed for the families it was believable. It was also a great lesson in how we each deal with stress in current ways & how secrets have a way of being revealed when we least expect it. It was a fun read that I looked forward to getting back to when i couldn't continue from cover to cover. Definitely worth my time.

Another wonder-gut Amish tale!

I love the sisters, and the story spun around them by Sarah Price is an excellent one! It's a story of faith that does not fail in the face of adversity, time and time again. You can see the Lord comes through for them in the most dire conditions, and love never fails.

good family story.

This is a good story about how to handle each problem that comes up in a family, and with grace, and they do tend to come all at once! No one's family is perfect but we love them any way!

Nice story

Just when you think things can't get any worse, they do. While there were still quite a few grammar and spelling mistakes, I could still enjoy the story. It would be nice if authors would at least use grammarly.com to fix obvious mistakes.

Lydia, Susie, Leah and Sadie are about as different as sisters can be, but they All come together at the "Whoopie Pie Place", where they bake and sell Whoopie Pies, shoo fly pies, fresh baked bread and Amish crafts. This is a story of the trials, joys, pains, sorrows and spats. Looking past the serene facade of the Amish community to see the gossip, the struggling marriages, illnesses and all the other things that are part of the human condition. Everything that effects one impacts the others.
Leah is by default the matriarch of the family, after the death of both parents in an accident, she runs the business that supports them all at least partly and is raising the younger kinner still left at home. With the leukemia of a younger brother, Tobias, her worries are adding up, always worrying about a relapse is always in the back of her mind. Lydia and Susie bicker constantly while cooking in the bakery. Lydia is often leaving early, complaining about aches and pains. Susie's husband is often angry and resents the time she spends at the bakery. Sadie is feeling tired more and more every day, but doesn't want to add more worry to Leah's already heavy burden.
This will be a book you won't want to put down, wanting to know what happens next!

This story follows four Amish sisters who run the Whoopie Pie Place bakery. Each sister has a secret she is keeping from her other sisters, and unknowingly, those secrets also impact the rest of the family. Little by little, balancing the responsibilities of their daily lives and the secrets they are trying to hide becomes harder to manage.

I really enjoyed this book much more than I expected too. This is not your typical Amish fiction; instead of making a romance central to the story, it instead is focused on the daily lives and relationships of family, especially those of the four sisters. It was a hard story to put down once I started reading, each chapter left me wanting to keep going to find out what happened next.

The ending was both satisfying, and left me wanting more at the same time. There is a sequel to this story, Whoopie Pie Place, which will be coming out sometime this year.

Different Amish story

Leah and her three sisters and two brothers and their spouses are living the plAin life. The sisters run The Woopie Pie Place where they sell bakery working together. This story is about the good and hard times the family endures. Illness, marriage problems, strife within the family. When huge orders for woopie pies and bread come in they are about to be overwhelmed with more problems that all need attention and need to be solved. The Amish community grapevine causes a big misunderstanding but it comes together to help in the end. If you like Amish stories you will want to read this book.

A pleasant Amish novel

This book features 4 Amish sisters and their extended families. Each is struggling with her own challenges, and each has a role in their Whoopie Pie bakery, a tourist attraction and a financial necessity to help support them and their farms. The characters are more realistic than in other Amish novels I've read - they're trying to do their best, but they aren't saints. There's a lot about their faith in the novel, but it's presented in the context of their lives and struggles. There's no heavy lifting required of the reader here, but it's a nice, pleasant novel and a quick read.

The Divine Secrets of the Whoopie Pie Sisters: The Complete Trilogy by Sarah Price is a delightful book to discover. I gave it five stars because it made me laugh, cry & ponder. I will remember these sisters for a long time.

"The Amish are people just like you & I. They, too, struggle with relationships, disappointments, questions of faith & even temptations, a fact that some Christians might not want to know, but exist among the Plain people as well."

I received a complimentary copy in an Amazon promotion. That did not influence my opinion for this review.

I’m surprised at how much I enjoyed this novel about four Amish sisters who run a family bakery. The eldest is the stalwart of the orphaned family. Another is dealing with a mentally abusive husband. Next comes the hypochondriacal sister. Finally, the youngest who puts forth nonstop effort in spite of illness. Two brothers round out the family, one of whom suffers a relapse of an earlier bout of leukemia. Throw in a natural disaster and you have enough challenges to try the faith of any human, Amish or not.

This was certainly a welcoming addition to my library. The author took a step away from your typical Amish book. This is about family through and through and all the better that they were Amish characters. So much of Amish fiction has turned into Amish/English and this book was a wonderful representation of struggles and imperfect people who were also very interesting to read about.

Great book

Great book

This is different from most Amish books I have read. I like how the author intertwined four sisters lives and problems with a reality that life can be messy even for Amish people. I will definitely be on the lookout for more of this authors work.

I haven't seen many books about the amish that aren't romance novels and I don't like romance novels. However, this was a breath of fresh air. The amish lifestyle is captivating and the three sisters running their bakery with their three very different personalities makes for a good read.
