What a story! Read it in one evening... i couldn't put it down. For Dustin being a Christian man, he sure had some anger management issues... and for Charlie living almost like a caged animal most of her life, she spoke very well.
What I didn't like about this book was the very abrupt ending. After all that suspense and tension, it just ended 😢 I don't usually like sounding so critical of an author I enjoy, but I need closure! Hopefully the next book will have the wedding.
This was absolutely a great book and by a great author. I highly recommend this book and author. I can’t wait to read the next book by this wonderful author.
This story is packed full of emotions, fear, hopelessness, pity, anger, doubt, forgiveness, redemption and love. When Dustin's horse throws a shoe and he is left to walk the last 30 miles back to his ranch, it was by pure mishap that he finds the run down farm and its occupants, Hoover and his niece Charlie. What a shock to see this young woman, Charlie, chained up like an animal and locked in a barn stall to sleep. I loved the storyline of how Dustin paid Hoover to hire and take Charlie to be his cook, so he could rescue her and get her away. The dialogue was heartwarming, especially teaching Charlie about life, how to read and write and best of all Christ. Charlie has basically been a prisoner and slave since she was a young girl and it is hard for her to accept kindness, but she is always appreciative and grateful. I love the message in the story of forgiveness and Charlie is full of innocence and has a kind heart. Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. When I started , I did not want to put it down. This is one of those books that you can't wait to see what the next page will bring. Dustin is a young Texas Hill country ranch owner. He was headed home and his horse threw a shoe. He came upon a cabin and was hoping someone could help him with getting another shoe on his horse. He was not expecting to see what he saw when he went into the cabin. A young wild looking woman chained up in the kitchen and being forced to cook for her uncle. He could not believe what he was seeing. This is not right Lord. What was he to do ? He needed to get her , Charlie, out of the cabin. He was a single man. This is a very sweet and clean romance and I loved it. I want tell any more spoilers, but get your copy and find out more about Charlie and Dustin. This was a really sweet book. It was sad to think this sort of thing was actually very common for women during this period of time. I would definitely read more from this author! denise bailey
