Burn it All to the Ground: When Social Justice Theory Becomes Practice

Rate this book
The first book in this series, Problematic, explored the psychology of the contemporary social justice movement, such as how radical politics can often resemble certain psychiatric disorders. The second book, Building Insanity, examined how the evolution of Marxism through Critical Theory and Postmodernism led to the development of Critical Race Theory, radical feminism, and transgender ideology. This book explores how those ideas manifest in the real world, exploring the impacts of Black Lives Matter, campus feminism, and transgender activism. It asks questions such as whether BLM is beneficial for people of color, or whether radical feminism empowers women. Is it ok to chemically castrate mentally ill gay kids in the name of progress? This book makes the case that aside from a few grifters who profit from the social justice movement, the movement itself and its ideas hurt everyone and have encouraged a mass psychosis. Far from being on "the right side of history," the contemporary social justice movement was born out of privileged people who want to hold onto their dominant place in society and are willing to hurt others to keep it that way.

I received my bachelor's degree in psychology from Baylor University and was also in a philosophy-based honors program. I am currently a graduate student in counseling working on becoming a therapist. I write on the intersection of philosophy, psychology, mental health, politics, and culture. I hope to bring insight on complex topics in ways that are more easily digestible to most readers.

"Social"?

"Justice"?

I am not sure social justice is either social (in a good way) or justice. That said, here a few questions from the synopsis:

"It asks questions such as whether BLM is beneficial for people of color, or whether radical feminism empowers women. Is it ok to permanently alter the bodies of mentally ill kids in the name of progress?"

In reading this book, I found a lot of information that answers these questions and documentation for those in the field of psychology. I have found so many conundrums especially in the area of sexual identify and reassigning gender and most of all gender reassignment and surgeries with children. I don't think any child knows fully who they are until adulthood and should be allowed to grow up and figure things out for themselves without the pressure of taking hormones or surgery. This has just gone too far.

In addition to this, I have real problems with biological men competing in women's sports. What happened to Title IX and women's rights?

Not being a psychology major, I found this book easy to read and understand the points author Ryan Rogers is making. Very thoughtful. My hope is that the craziness of these people and organizations who want to "burn it all to the ground" calms down and we can return to calmer discussions on topics like these and allow people to make up their own minds without the pressure of activists.

I received a Kindle version of this from Goodreads Giveaways. It was a DNF for me. I tried, but I just couldn't do it.
