I like the riddles and how the solve them - especially the one in which they all work together as a team. :)

I'm very worried about Yukio. I'm very curious where his storyline will take us. :)

I'm a bit wary of that Shiemi/Rin/Yukio love triangle thingy, though. -.-

When I read this I was like ... Maaaaa looooord !!

I miss this manga so much. I love the whole adventurous and the universe in Blue Exorcist, it always strikes me with how much details were in this manga, the drawing specially!!!

The little romance between Shimie and Rin is always just adorable on so many levels along with the sheer mystery of Mephisto, the artificial gate of Gehennaah and the spy in the Cross Academy and new characters here! Like Arthur, lighting guy and such!?

And Yukio, I'm worried about him and they said something left eye (?) another mystery. Also his confusion about his brother and his dad's death, so many things that I don't blame him for it.

In this volume of Blue Exorcist, it's all school all the time, whether it's solving the Seven Mysteries of the academy or participating in the academy festival, a fine staple of school-based manga now rearing its head in this supernatural shonen title. It's also very Yukio-centric, as the more studious and serious Okamura brother becomes concerned about his own possible demonic tendencies. It's a book with a good mix of action and character-based moments and rather hard to put down.

My complete review of BLUE EXORCIST volume 11 is now at my blog.

"Shiemi who du you like the most Rin or Yukio?" I can understand her struggle to choose there.

I can't get over the ending. I really don't like the new guy.
( maybe a spoiler alert 🚨 I don't know if this count as a spoiler)
I really hope that nothing happened to Izumo's creators.

This volume was cute and had a much different vibe than most of the series. I liked seeing the kids living as ordinary students and that scene of Rin, Yukio, and Shiemi dancing together will live in my head rent free. Also Mephisto is kinda scary.

While Rin takes extra lessons to make up for getting a zero on an English quiz, Yukio goes to the Hall of Portraits to investigate one of the seven mysteries the ex-wires have been working on. There he runs into Shura, who is aware of the rumors regarding a certain portrait, which is said to show the observer the darkness in his heart. However, their meeting is no coincidence. She has come to tell Yukio he’s been summoned to go the Vatican the next day to give information on Todo, and she will accompany him.

Meanwhile, the ex-wires are tackling a different mystery, that of the statue of Johann Faust which moves at night. As they argue among themselves, the statue begins to move! As he observes Rin and the others, Yukio wonders about himself, wonders why Father Fujimoto chose to raise them, and if Rin is the son of Satan then what is he? Lost in thought he finds that he’s wandered into the Hall of Portraits. Or was that but a dream?

The ex-wires head to the Hall of Portraits after school, and find a cute doggy there, but it’s only Mephisto, up to his old tricks. He explains why this is the last mystery they can do, even though there are three others. The portrait in question is known as the family portrait, and it has recently become dangerous enough to require exorcism. The ex-wires must work together, each to his own strengths, to solve this mystery, and one steps forward to show unexpected leadership abilities. When the battle is won, Rin reminds Mephisto of his promise concerning the eye drops.

At the Vatican, Yukio has to agree to some harsh conditions and seal them with his blood! He tells them what he knows and, after he leaves, the matter of the Illuminati is discussed. It seems that they have spies within the Order! Two in the Vatican and one in the Japan branch. Shura is ordered to find the spy in the Japan branch.

A jealous Rin wonders why Yukio is meeting with Shiemi so often, but his brother is close-lipped about the matter. It’s not what Rin thinks – Yukio is helping to tutor Shiemi.

The Academy Festival is quickly approaching, time for the classes to decide what they are going to do. Rin suggests doing tonjiru and rice balls, which he can make, so his class goes with that. When he learns that on the second night of the festival a concert will be held featuring some bands that he really likes, Rin is ecstatic. Until he finds out the event is couples only! What is he going to do? He would ask Shiemi, but she isn’t a student at True Cross, and he knows few other girls. All of the male ex-wires have the same problem. Izumo turns them all down. Suguro has the opposite problem – he keeps receiving invitations that he has to turn down! Things take an unexpected turn when Shiemi suddenly shows up! Is this Rin’s chance to ask her to go with him?

I’m sorry there are no more of the seven mysteries to solve, it’s fun to watch the ex-wires in action, especially their interactions with each other. Rin has gained more of an acceptance from them, although they do remain aware that he is the son of Satan. I was confused when I noticed he keeps his tail out now, even at school, until I realized no one can see it who can’ see demons. Of course that includes his new friend Godaiin, who freaks out a bit when he sees the tail.

Mephisto is ever the troublemaker, while I still don’t know what to make of Takara. The Festival is a welcome break and a chance to see the ex-wires acting more like the teens they really are than wannabe exorcists. I like the growing triangle of Rin-Shiemi-Yukio, although I suspect that Shiemi’s feelings for Yukio are more hero worship than anything, and I’m not sure what Yukio’s toward her are. I’ve known for some time that Rin likes Shiemi, but maybe it’s good for him to think he has competition, even if it’s his own brother.

I dislike Arthur Angel as much as ever, but Lightning seems nice enough. I wonder who the Illimunati spy is. Takara is a too obvious choice. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Another good volume, bring on more!

Synopsis:

Rin and his friends continue to investigate the Seven School Mysteries. Yukio watches as the Exwires take on the Academy's ghosts, troubled by lingering doubts about his own feelings. Rin seems to be learning to control his power more, but is tapping his inner demonic fire going to be his salvation or his doom?

My Thoughts:

This is the first volume that I'm writing a review for since volume 1. That's mostly because I was reading them so fast that I just couldn't take the time to write a review after every one. I basically devoured this series and now I'm sad as all hell that I'm all caught up and even sadder that the US release and the Japanese release are caught up to each other, too. This series is nowhere near over what with everything that's been going on and with the US release being only 1 volume behind the Japanese one, that means I'll be waiting. =[ At least it gives me something to look forward to...

I keep falling more and more in love with Rin. In most of the battles we see him in, he never hesitates. You would think that he's completely accepted his demonic side, but we see as the series goes on, that that isn't quite true. Not until after the events in Kyoto. It's when he realizes that he has to accept the fact that he is Satan's son, but he can still be himself. He doesn't have to be a monster just because of who his father is. I always want to cheer Rin on. He's amazing. He also has one of the cutest smiles. I love to see him smiling. There are those in the Order that think he should be destroyed, but they couldn't be more wrong. Rin has a pretty strong sense of self and I don't think he would ever fall to the dark side. I think the only thing that could really open him up to that is if something horrible happened to all of the people he has come to care about. Rin has come a long way since volume 1. He still has a ways to go, but he's coming along nicely.

The one that I think everyone really needs to be paying close attention to is Yukio. There are people that are, but not quite the right people. Yukio has apparently always had doubts, but Rin's power awakening seems to have really shaken them up. I'm worried that he could be in danger of being taken over by a demon some day. That fight with Todo up in Kyoto showed us something I never expected from Yukio. Why did his left eye do that? Mephisto has to know something considering he was watching, but he's keeping quiet. Yukio is keeping quiet, too. I wish he'd talk to someone. Rin isn't the smartest guy around, but he loves Yukio and what Yukio is going through he shouldn't have to go through alone. I am really, really worried about him. Both Rin and Shimei have noticed his odd behavior. I wish he would open up to at least one of them. Todo seems to think Yukio will switch sides. At the rate he's going, he's his own worst enemy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him.

I am very much enjoying the other characters as well. Shura can be crude, but she's cool. Bon is too serious at times, but he's a great guy. Konekomaru can get twitchy, but he's good at tactics during a fight. Shima can be lazy, but he tends to step up when he's needed, anyway. Shimei can be timid, but she's a wonderful person and has proven herself in battles plenty of times. Izumo is sooooo tsundere, but she always steps up, too. Takara is still a mystery. Considering how this volume ended, though, I think we're going to learn more about him in the next one. I'll be on pins and needles for that release!

Everyone is so freakin cute in this volume. I swear my emotions and heart ahhh. First off, Yukio. This boy. Whakqnkwhw. He is so tormented on the inside also wanting to know why Shiro saved him and Rin and if he inherited Satan's blue flames too. Poor boy us dead inside and working too hard. I just want to hug him, for him to talk with his brother and to just relax and live a little. He is always so serious and on high alert. He's only 15 😭😭😭😭

Meanwhile, the school festival is underway so the students are all getting preparations ready and looking for dates. Most of our gang is foo busy with cram school, however, Rin decides that he wants to have fun so he decides that he wants to ask Shiemi to go with him. However, since Yukio has been helping Yukio study which paid off as she has entered the high school too, and she has noticed that Yukio has been acting strange lately, she decides to want to ask him out. Still, despite getting asked by other girls, like with them, Yukio rejects Shiemi's invitation saying he is on the school staff and can't.

And let me just say, this whole weird love triangle thing going on between Yukio, Rin and Shiemi is killing me. Just my heart. Like sure, all of them are very cute. Rin and Yukio because they are just too adorable and I love them soooooo much and with Shiemi because she's so pure and kind; she's not interested in romance, she just loves her friends and wants them to be well and happy. BUT what really kills me isn't some otp ship thing. Oh no. It's the fact that it seems like both tains are pinning over the same girl. And like noooo. Staph. I don't want them fighting and being driven even further apart by some girl, even it is Shiemi. Like no!!!!

Other stuff going on is Mephisto being a shady bastard as always. Saying that he will put down Shura if she interferes. And I'm like with what??? Also, this guy was talking about the pursuit of knowledge and desire and just ahskanajjw. This asshole. What the heck is he planning. I really do feel like he is pushing the Okumura twins to their limits or at least trying to for some reason.

Meanwhile we also got Yukio being questioned about Todo and his personal opinion on the man. It's all shady. My poor baby. And speaking of Todo, we also got at least two spies from the Illuminati it seems that have infiltrated our heroes ranks. And we also got Yukio being shown that he ofc, fears being a demon and the like. Idk, just. I just want to reread this volume again to REALLY absorb everything. Lol. and make sure I miss no single detail!

Okay, so this review is all over the place, but there is so much going on this volume. I'm internally screaming. I really look forward to the next volume!

Motherfucker, what a come back.

This is such a marked difference from volume 10 and I'm here for it. It was such a blast to read and it just strengthened things I liked (the kids and their friendships amongst each other, the plot) and really smoothed things out and addressed some of my previous frustrations.

The kids, mainly the boys, just doing the same thing over and over until Konekomaru stepped up, got out of his comfort zone and took his friends to task. I LOVED how he took the lead here and was able to analyze the situation at hand. Him immediately becoming bashful after and the others supporting him was adorable.

Yukio's worries had more legitimacy here. He was starting to become sullen, and while he still can be at times, having call backs to Todo and his own burgeoning physical problems add weight and depth to what he's facing as another child of Satan and his own responsibilities of being an exorcist. Rin is not the only one being watched and Yukio knows this, and doesn't quite know what to do about this. This obvious solution is to, y'know, COMMUNICATE, but it also makes sense that he doesn't feel he has anyone to turn to. Rin is too simplistic is such situations, Shiemi too. Shura is openly mocking towards him, and he's not as close with the rest of the kids since he's technically their superior. More and more he's becoming isolated, and it's going to boil over at some point.

Godaiin makes a re-appearance and I was really stoked for a new friendship Rin made. I was irked that he just outed himself as being half-demon to this rando kid (Rin is that type of shonen dumbass that works my last nerve at times), but I really enjoyed the blossoming friendship between the two.

Finally, I really loved the paneling in a lot of scenes here, especially with Mephisto. One of his chapters introduces him as talking to the audience and following the kids, then the reveal of who he was actually talking to was creepy and brilliant, loved it!

And then the twist at the end! I'm so intrigued. My girl, Kamiki, is up at bat?!

Ahhhhhhh! <3

This volume is mostly character development, and the primary plot inches along, if it can be said to move at all. So how's it get four stars? Well, the character stuff is, generally speaking, really good. Everyone focused on is struggling with something, except Mephistopheles, who Kazue is doing his best to darken. There's plenty of evidence to foreshadow the possibility of Mephistopheles being evil, but it feels like too much of a give away after establishing him as good to then make him bad, to obvious a betrayal to be worth the trick...kinda. I would be frustrated by it anyway. Besides, all the darkening feels like sleight of hand to me. Rin is almost a secondary character in this volume participating primarily as comic relief in chapters 42-44, and as comic protagonist in a romance plot from chapter 45 to the end of the volume. As the exwires go up against another of the school mysteries Koneko steps up as a real leader and tactician and proves very effective. Honestly, only the secondary character stuff in festival dance chapters (45+) was really interesting, the primary, foregrounded goofiness of boys looking for dates to the festival party felt too much like the Harry Potter winter ball bits in Goblet of Fire, or similar moments in any number of teen movies or sitcoms. There's a hint at just what kind of darkness is coming next at the end of the volume, and it worked for me. I surely want to get a hold of volume 12.

This was a really great volume. It had a mix of action, comedy and some romance...while also having some intriguing moments.

Yukio continues to have doubts about himself since his encounter with Todo. I found it really interesting and clever how that was portrayed, with him having a dream about one of the seven wonders (the family photo one).

As for the "romance", I like how Rin openly admits to himself that he likes Shiemi romantically. Finally, a character that isn't in denial...unlike his twin brother Yukio (lol). I'm personally hoping Rin ends up with Shiemi over Yukio, but I wouldn't be completely against Yukio and Shiemi. Ultimately, though, it's up to Shiemi to choose between them. But I feel like she'd choose Rin, because to me, it seems like she only admires Yukio and thinks of him as sort of like a mentor in a sense.

That cliffhanger was one I definitely wasn't expecting. And Mephisto remains as mysterious as always...and he was funnier in this volume too. It was nice to read through some of his thoughts for once.

THE GOOD

Rin/Izumo and Yukio/Shiemi: I love Rin and his feeling struggles in this book, but... I gotta admit I do not ship him with Shiemi. I ship Yukio with Shiemi because it just feels like they mesh better to me. But Izumo? I do ship her with Rin. Something about their interaction just made it click. Plus, when she was the only who still trusted him right after they all found out? Pretty much solidified her as my favorite female character.

Suguro: Bon's pretty popular with the ladies eh? To bad he doesn't seem too fond of them, hahaha!

Koneko and Shima; These two are great comedic relief this volume.

Lightning; Man, I'm just waiting for the day Arthur realized Lightning probably hates his guts....

THE BAD

Arthur: I hope you die a thousand deaths...

Mephisto; this volume was very Mephisto centric and I did not care for that much. I don't like the schemer types, and Mephisto just rubs me wrong.

Rin & shima getting closer n have bonding time because they looking for girl n invite them to the school festival. Rin & shima ask every girls but got rejected in the end. Bon got invitations letter by unknown girls in his locker. Every girls ask yukio if he joined with them at the festival but yukio decline them because he's busy doing his duty. Konekamaru already got his partner. Rin wanted to ask shiemi if she wanted to go out with but sheimi said it first that she was thinking that she invite yukio with him so Rin think sheimi like yukio so his friends cheered him up. I love that yukio, sheimi & Rin dance together.😂 I wished Rin would take my hand n run off in festival like sheimi ♥️. Kamiki headed to the festival because Rin ask her to but it seems tanaka make a move n meet kamiki wearing maid outfit - I have to say she look cute in her outfit ♥️.
