Frankenstein's Bride

Rate this book
Includes Mary Shelley's Frankenstein―two gothic novels in one! In this chilling sequel to Mary Shelley's famous horror classic, Hilary Bailey imagines what might have happened if Dr. Frankenstein had created a female companion for his monster. Years after he inadvertently set in motion the events that caused a series of deranged murders, Dr. Frankenstein, now living a happy and privileged life, sets to work on restoring the voice of beautiful young opera singer Maria Clementi. But things are not always as they seem, and soon the rumors about Victor Frankenstein begin to worry his new assistant, Jonathan Goodall. When Jonathan spies a mysterious figure lurking near Maria's theatre, and later discovers his own wife and child murdered in cold blood, he knows he'll do anything to uncover the truth of Frankenstein and his newest experiments―a truth he knows will change everything… For more than two hundred years, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus has kept readers enthralled. Shelley brought to life not only Frankenstein's monster, but also a masterpiece that authors have reimagined again and again. Frankenstein's Bride is perfect for seekers of the supernatural, classic horror fans, and readers of gothic fiction.

Something about this book captured me upon seeing it. I knew... just knew that I had to read it.

First off, Frankenstein is my favorite horror novel.

I wasn't sure what to expect, other than I had seen the old black and white The Bride of Frankenstein and didn't find it thirst-quenching enough. Could this book that no one asked for do the job?

Yes.

You may find yourself caught up in a beautifully written and engaging tale, 150 pages or so into it, thinking 'I thought this was about Frankenstein's Bride?' and 'When are we getting to the bride part?'. Fear not, my Victorian-horror-story-hungry friends! There is a twist in the tale that will drop your jaw and compel you to turn those ink-scored pages to the very last!

There are few slow places in the book. However, the characters are well thought out, and the story is original. I was hoping for a different twist on the original story and this book does not disappoint! I love the story of the bride of Frankenstein so any story along those lines I will read. I really do recommend this book and feel it too could become a classic.

This is one hell of a sequel to Frankenstein as written by Hilary Bailey. I had a hard time putting it down, honestly. She explores, in a very interesting manner, the story if Victor had actually animated the intended mate for his Creature. Thoroughly intrigued the entire time. Definitely worth a read if you're into the Frankenstein canon.

It was an interesting take on if Frankenstein's bride had been made. Was certainly not expecting how it played out, the original story is included in this book. It doesn't truly match up with the original but that was to be expected.

This was a fast read for me. I was immediately taken with the mysterious plot. I won't give any spoilers, but I was satisfied with how the story ended, however, guessing nearly a quarter of the way through how it was actually going to end. I did enjoy it on the whole, and the memoir-style storytelling made it interesting to read.

BLAH! I disliked 90% of this book. I only enjoyed the last 25 pages of the book...It was the only interesting part. I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone, unless they have read the original and want to find out more about Frankenstein's Bride.

This deserves a subject heading of it's own - historical horror. Maria is a marvelously odd character, a singer who is mute. I thought the author did a good job of keeping the tone of Shelley's masterpiece, which is included at the end of this book.

I wanted to like this book, but it was a bit ponderous, nothing much happened for the first 150- pages and then when anything did it was a bit of a let down.

Bavilo ma to! Ak si chcete prečítať pokračovanie, čo sa stalo s Viktorom, jeho monštrom a ženou, čo stvoril, nech sa páči. :)
