Summer Nights

Rate this book
Fatherhood isn’t sexy.

Especially as a single dad.

My son is everything, but I’m losing time with him because of my work.

Not this summer.

This summer is about us, sunshine, time on the lake, and bonding.

And her.

The first time I lay eyes on her, she’s in a bikini.

And in my way.

She grates on my last nerve.

But there’s nowhere to hide from her in this small town.

Maybe it’s a good thing she found me.

This girl has the sort of heart that makes a man crazy.

Her body in that bikini doesn’t hurt, either.

And the way she is with my son?

Well, that’s enough to push me over the edge.

One thing is for sure.

We’ll remember these summer nights forever.

Every good girl deserves a bad boy. ~ Weston

This was just so much fun! Jewel and Landon start the book as something very close to enemies, but it’s really not that long before we see that the sparks between them are something a lot more interesting than hate. It’s a wicked slow burn getting them to act on all that chemistry, but so worthwhile when we see where it takes them. I loved the way family and friends pulled together around them and I adored the little family unit they created. There’s one of the ‘villains’ of the book that I would have liked to have seen receive fitting punishment for their behavior, but that’s really the only quibble I have.

Single workaholic dad from LA with a withdrawn and awkward preteen son who is more interested in playing chess with the people at the local nursing home than he is hanging out with kids his age, and a small-town girl with a huge heart, summertime in a small town; what more can you ask for?

The small town of June Lake pulls you in with its quirky summertime festivals and contests, and that is where a single, workaholic lawyer and single dad, Landon, takes his son, Colten to spend the summer. After a concerning meeting with Colten’s teacher about his lack of social development on the last day of school, Landon decides that spending the summer unplugged and together is what the proverbial doctor ordered.

Landon and Colten are quickly charmed by the small town, after an awkward first meeting with Jewel, the owner of a local cleaning business, both Landon and Colten quickly fall for the small-town girl with a huge heart. Jewel introduces Colten to local kids his age and he makes friends and the reader’s heart melts as we follow along as he comes out of his shell. Colten is not the only character in this book who grows. The readers watch Landon and Jewel help each other mature and overcome their struggles. Landon learns to control his temper and that he doesn’t have to work 24/7, he can take a breath and slow down. Jewel overcomes her insecurities about being abandoned by her parents. Landon convinces Jewel not to walk away when his ex, Colton’s birth mother comes back into the picture and tries to convince Landon that after 10 years she wants to be a family.

This sweet love story brings all the feels and a few laughs as we fall in love with June Lake and the people who call in home.

I was given an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book has some major unforgivable plot holes that really need to be addressed.
1- Dallas? His storyline made zero sense. He shows up everywhere drunk, rear-ended a literal lawyer, throws out said lawyer and his kid at 3am, and it's like, "cool"? Like what the actual fuxk. And it was all sooo cool that Landon opts to buy the mansion from Dallas? Ummm...okayyyy.

2- the inheritance? Like, what was it? He paid 600k for some random heirlooms, 2.5 million dollars to an ex, and buys the mansion with all these infinite funds?

3- Walter? He's cool to leave the facility now?

4-the mansion?! Why did Landon buy it? How?

5- Landon?! He literally leaves her after telling her he loves her? Ummm, what? It all made no sense. There was little groveling. He just comes comes back and all is well? Ewww.

6-Colten? The inconsistency of this character was irritating. Sometimes, he read like an adult, sometimes a small toddler, and then often, like some genius 10 year old. And Landon not sheltering him from some pretty awful trauma irritated me, too. I get it, be honest with your child, but he's a 10 year old boy.

IMHO, this book should be yanked to address these glaring plot holes. TBH, I actually enjoyed this book until the end.
The lack of closure and clarity on EVERYTHING ruined this book for me.

Landon and his son Colten plan to spend their summer holiday in June Lake which is where they come across Jewel.
The story Landon and Jewel’s romance is a journey of twists and turns including Colten’s mother turning up out of the blue. They have hurdles to jump through, the worst of which is when Landon and Colten return to their home in LA.
Landon’s character is very serious and due to his work pressures he seems to be on a short fuse. He gradually relaxes away from work and starts to have fun with his 10 year old son with the help of Jewel.
An emotional story with some steamy sessions as Landon and Jewel navigate their way to a HEA.

I received this book as an arc member . A father and son live in LA. Father has a very important job and don’t get to be home with his son. His son misses his dad terribly . Dad decides to take a 440 mile trip to a little town after his step father suggested it so they could reconnect and find happiness. Several people come into their lives and makes a big difference. Page turner must read . Way better than 5 stars .

I really enjoyed this book. It was a sweet, feel-good story. It wasn’t all smooth sailing, there were lots of bumps in the road to Landon and Jewel’s happily ever after. Jewel and her family and town were just what Landon and Colton needed to find a home where they could turn their discontent into a happy future. I liked the characters, I thought they were well-developed and the supporting characters added depth to the story.

This standalone is told in dual first person POV and leaves you with a HEA. When Landon and Jewel meet for the first time, first impressions aren’t the best for either of them. When their paths cross more and more, tensions of frustration turns to a slow burn of chemistry.

I love the bond that Jewel and Colten (Landon’s son), develop. I enjoyed how Jewel’s brother, Scott and Brittany (Jewel’s best friend/cleaning business co-owner), accepted Colten and Landon.

I wasn’t a fan of how Landon handled the reappearance of Colten’s mother and I feel like it was unresolved about Landon’s trust fund, especially when it was mentioned throughout the story multiple times. I also wonder what happened to Dallas and how was he convinced to sell the mansion that Landon was renting.

Aside from these few things, I did enjoy the story. I used my KU subscription to snag the bonus epilogue hoping some of those questions would be answered. Sadly they weren’t, but it was still a good epilogue. I received an advanced readers copy. These thoughts and opinions are my own.

Landon Payne is a criminal defense attorney who works long hours and is missing out on his ten year-old Colten’s boyhood even though his elderly step-father keeps reminding him that with his inheritance he doesn’t have to work at all. Landon plans to spend the entire summer in the lake country simply to have fun with Colt and figure out if his son might be the target of bullying.

Jewel Pendleton lives in the small town of June Lake and owns a residential cleaning service with Brittany, her best friend since elementary school. They have wanted to get inside the historic Styles Manor forever and still hope they will some day. While they’re hoping, Landon and Colten are living their dream by renting it for just the two of them. But Jewel gets her chance when Landon hires her to clean the manor, one thing leads to another, and voila, sparks are flying, and Colten finds friends. But two evildoers would like nothing more than to destroy their chance at HEA, not to mention the issue of living on two sides of the country. Whew!

I absolutely adore how Weston Parker has created such a beautiful couple with hearts of gold and an adorable, precocious boy. June Lake reminds me of of my childhood summers spent at Center Hill Lake in Tennessee amid the simple lifestyle of bygone years. “Summer Nights” is the perfect summer read with an exciting plot and a delicious conclusion set in glorious landscapes and chock full of lovable characters. Don’t miss it!

Summer Nights is an amazing story written by Weston Parker!

Landon is a single dad to an amazing 10-yr old son, Colton, who's incredibly smart, loves a great game of chess, but is finding it difficult to connect with kids his own age at school. With a little guidance from his stepfather, Landon takes two months off from his stressful job as a criminal defense attorney and takes Colton to a small town called June Lake. He's rented a house to stay at right on the water and hopes that the time away will help to strengthen his relationship with Colton and get him to open up about what's been happening with school.

Jewel has lived in June Lake her entire life. She runs a cleaning business with her best friend, and while they work hard, they play just as hard! Her first encounter with Landon was less than ideal, but having a standoff with him while she was in her bikini definitely had the sparks flying! While they didn't warm up to each other immediately, there was no way Landon could ignore Jewel's charming personality long term.

I really enjoyed all the characters in this story. The amazing relationships between family members and friends was what we all dream of. After reading this story I really wish I could spend a summer on June Lake!

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Landon and Jewel. Landon is a single father who is raising his son Colt, but he is a busy lawyer and decides to take the summer to spend time with him in hopes of connecting. Jewel lives in a small town and owns a cleaning business with her best friend. There is a local mansion that is said to have built for a couple who were so in love. Jewel is obsessed with the mansion and wants to get inside to see if it will live up to her expectations. Landon happens to rent the mansion for the summer and when they dirst meet, Landon is very rude and Jewel doesn't like him at all. After a few run ins, Landon apologized and Jewel offers to show Landon and Colt around the local market. They begin a friendship, and Landon hires Jewel to clean the mansion. They spend more time together and Jewel helps Colt make friends and soon Landon and Jewel are fighting the attraction they have to one another. Jewel decides to have a fling with Landon, even though she knows he will be leaving at the end of the summer. I really loved this story. I loved Kandon and Jewej together. I love how Colt bloomed being in the small town and how Jewel grew to love him too. This was a great book and i highly recommend it.

I was enjoying this book so much and then the author just had to go and reward the mother of the year Kaitlyn. That Landon had all the cards in his hand. She left 10 years ago, an infant child alone and went on her marry way. When she realized that Landon now had his money she wanted a part of it. Instead of recording her asking for money he hands over 2 million dollars for her to leave. What a disappointment . Why do authors always settle just to get rid of them. I want characters who fight for what they know is right.
As for Jewel I liked her at first, they way she stood up for herself against Landon. Once they became more than friends she just wasn't that interesting. Also, now that they are getting married, how long is Landon and his son going to pretend to like her food? If it was so awful why wasn't anyone aware that she couldn't cook? Has no one else ever tasted her cooking? Plus the audacity to invite herself to live with them so she could be their maid.
Sadly I lost all interest in this book once he handed over the money to Kaitlyn. So much could have been explored with this situation. Also with the whole owner of the manor they were living in. He is a lawyer and yet didn't seem to have a damn leg to stand on when it came to leverage in any thing.

Incredible couple, surprise unexpected turns and crazy owner of the manor! Don't miss out!
Colten, Landon's son's teacher isn't for sure if he isn't socializing because he's being bullied or just doesn't want to make friends. So Landon's stepfather coaxes him to take the boy on vacation and build a good relationship with is son and for his son to learn to make friends his own age. So he rents the Styles Manor for the summer in June Lake. Landon and Jewel meet the first time and they both are not crazy about each other, he's rude. The second time they meet Jewel finally puts her foot down, and tells him to apologize! Jewel is a romantic about the Styles Manor because of all the rumors she's heard all her life about the Styles family that built the manor in 1920, after Mr. Styles came home from the war. Sweet and steamy the way this couple gets together and sparks fly. Thank you Weston for the outstanding supporting characters too!

Landon is a single father and a lawyer who's spent the first 10 years of his son's life working way too much. With a little help from his stepfather, Landon realizes just how much he's missed out on and decides to do something about it. So, he takes two months off and rents a house in a small town called June Lake to try to reconnect with his son during summer break.

Jewel has lived her entire life in June Lake and wouldn't have it any other way. Jewel, along with her best friend, runs a cleaning business around town. While they work hard, they also play hard, which is what they were doing the first time Jewel meets Landon. While he didn't come across as the nicest guy, it didn't take these two long to realize there was definitely something between them. It also didn't hurt that Jewel was amazing with Landon's son, Colton. She introduced him to some kids his age and showed Colton how much fun summers in June Lake could be!

A must read!

Landon and Jewel’s story takes place in the village of June Lake. He is there to spend one-on-one time with son. His work as an attorney in California doesn’t leave much time for them to spend with each other. His son has issues because of it. Jewel and her best friend, Brittany own a residential cleaning business, Tidy Touch, in June Lake. Landon and Jewel’s first encounter doesn’t go well. As Landon and his Colton loosen up and relax more, they’re having a great time. This environment isn’t what they’re used to; a slower pace and beautiful scenery. Both Landon and Jewel have past issues. Landon has a one-night stand ex who is the mother of his son and comes back after ten years to create problems. Now, how can a relationship between two people who have total lives in states 450 miles apart have a relationship? You’ll have to read to find out. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed.

This story is about a workaholic single father, Landon finally realising what's important. He's spent the first ten years of his son Colten's life practising law and has missed out on so much. When Landon, thanks to a little push from his stepfather, is made to face what working so much has meant he takes two months off work and rents Styles Manor in the small town of June Lake hoping he and Colten can reconnect over the summer.

Jewel and her best friend, run a cleaning business in June Lake where she has lived all her life and has no desire to leave. Jewel is hard working, down to earth and has a heart of gold. The first time she and Landon met it didn't go well, but they soon realised they were attracted to each other. She was just the breath of fresh air he needed and was also instrumental in helping Colton to open up and make friends when she introduced him to some kids his age and showed him there was fun to be had in June Lake.

Speedy Resolution To His Abandonment

Oh the Tutorial Mode these Bad Boys get to move through life under.

"Its so difficult....always just having to ask forgiveness for everything I do."

Men are so chronically men.

Laughable it took him so long to give a fuck about the implications of his job and yet we are supposed to believe he, HE, instils confidence in her after abandoning her?

Huh.

The privilege doth drip I guess.

Out his ears.

He's allowed to just break everyones heart and a wee surpise and its all ok.

Wow, I don't believe she has a brain with actual neuroplastic tissue if his rejection gave her confidence and willingness to forgive after weeks of waking up alone.

But its ok, shes not the story, shes not afforded humanity. She is the silent blank slate that the affluent middle class women who stunt themselves emotionally, project themselves onto in their endless quest to save a man from his choices.

Love Single Dad Romances

Landon feels like his son Colten is growing up too fast without a friend in sight. All he wants to do is play chess. He even beats the pants off his grandfather's friends. Instead of watching his son turn away from the world, he decides to take him on a trip to June Lake. A place where they can relax and be themselves. Even make a few friends for the summer.

Jewel has dreamed of seeing inside of the Styles Mansion. The largest home in all of June Lake. She loves the romanticism of the place. When she sees Landon there, she sees a man who is too good looking for his own good. And stuck up.

I loved that this was an enemies to lovers slow-burn story. So many tropes that made this story refreshing to read. Your heart breaks and then it heals again in a remarkable way.

What an amazing read. I really enjoyed this book. It centres around Jewel (she and her best friend Brittany own their own cleaning company) Landon ( from LA and is a criminal lawyer) his Son Colten. Jewel doesn't have any family around her, only her brother Scott. Landon was brought up by his step dad Walter who is now in a nursing home. He told Landon he needs a summer break with his son to reconnect. He decided to rent the Manor in a small quant village called June Lake. Landon and Jewel meet several times and both think the other is either a rich city boy or a rude brat. Colten had problems with making friends. But once he's at June Lake he meets Brody and they hit it off. Scott gets on really well with both Colten and Landon. Hes also got the hots for Jewels best friend Brittany. It's a great storyline. Lots of romance and a guaranteed HEA.
Loved this book.
Thanks Weston.

Landon has a successful career as a lawyer but that also means that he doesn’t get to spend as much time with Colten, his son, as he needs. He is determined to make this a summer that they will never forget but Jewel wasn’t part of that plan.

Jewel is a resident of the town where Landon is vacationing. Even though they didn’t get off to the best start at their first meeting that doesn’t stop her from working for him and it isn’t long before she develops feelings for both father and son but not everyone is happy they are together.

I enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between Landon and Jewel as well as the relationship they had separately with Colen as they take us on an emotion and heart wrenching ride.

A story about a single father, Landon, and his 10 year old son, Colton. They go on a summer vacation together to reconnect after the suggestion from his stepfather. That is when they Jewel is introduced into the story, which didn't go too well the first few times, until Colton puts his dad in his place. Once they all get to know each other better, things then get more interesting......until a very unexpected visitor comes into the picture, which I didn't even expect. However, you will have to read this book to find out the rest.... I highly recommend this book. It's a wonderful story, you will enjoy it

"We’ll remember these summer nights forever."

Single dad, check.
Cute son, check.
Get on his nerves, check.
Pretty girl in a bikini, check.

But it's not even the bikini that has him breaking down. It's how his son has taken to HER!

I really enjoyed Jewel and Landon's first two meetings! Jewel's sassiness! But what I enjoyed most of all, was the slow build.

Will it be a summer fling, or could it be more!

Is Landon going to somehow dissolve the town of nasty Dallas?

I was hoping for an HEA for these two. That Landon and Colten will stay and that Landon brings Walt there! He deserves it!

A wonderful, feel good romance! I loved it!

This is a sweet summer romance between Jewel and Landon. Jewel is an enterprising female business owner with a romantic heart. She is enamored with the manor house across the lake and daydreams fanciful stories about life and love inside that home. Landon is a single dad who decides that he and his son need a break, so they end up renting the house that Jewel dreams about. Although these two got a rocky start, sparks soon fly and a summer romance is inevitable. This is a great story and I loved seeing how some big city folks learn to love a small town and everything it has to offer! Thanks to the author for providing us with such a fun story!

This book is about Landon who is an attorney and works way too much. While doing all these he is starting to miss spending time with his son. Therefore, he planned a trip to spend his summer with his son. In that lovely June lake he met Jewel who has been living there since she was born. In the beginning they started their journey a bit sour but when they got connected the spark was just wow. I love how Jewel was so good with his son. All characters are splendid, despite small bumps in their road they get to have their HEA. I highly recommend reading this book, you will love it.

Landon is a single father to Colten, aged 10, and a hot shot criminal defence lawyer workaholic living in LA. His sons teacher gives him the heads up that his son is struggling socially. Lardons elderly step father lives in a care home and suggests Landon and Colt take the summer off to try and reconnect, which is how they end up over 400 miles away renting a house in June Lake.
But when they have words with some locals blocking the road before they even get to the house, they aren’t off to a good start!
This summer could change their lives, hopefully for the better, if they let it..but things may not run as smoothly as they hope.

This book by Weston Parker is another reason he is one of my favorite authors! Landon is a single father who realized that his son, Colton, needs more of his time. I was touched how he came to the realization with a strong suggestion from his stepfather. The male influence in this story is impactful. Jewel proves that James Brown got it right, it’s a man’s world BUT it would be nothing without a woman or a girl🤭🥰! The journey that Landon goes on to come to this realization made this a wonderful read.

This Bookfunnel ARC is a fascinating read with some great characters. My review includes my thoughts and feelings about this book.

Fantastic - highly recommend. I love single father stories and this is a fav now. This story stars Landon and Jewel. He is a lawyer and single dad of a son, Colt. Landon decides to get away and spend some quality time with his son. Jewel lives in a small town and owns a cleaning business with her best friend. Landon rents a mansion for the summer and it turns out Jewel has been dying to see inside. The mansion has a romantic history. Landon is very rude and Jewel can’t stand him. Finally, after a few times they bump into each other he apologizes and Jewel offers to show him and his son around. Soon after they become friends, then romantic feelings brew.

Absolutely lovely romance between a workaholic criminal defense attorney and a sweet young cleaning business owner. When Landon first arrives in June Lake for a summer vacation with his 10-year old son, Colten, his meeting with Jewel didn't go well. Being uptight and stressed, he was rude and refused to apologize. But he had rented the biggest, most beautiful house on the lake and Jewel had longed to see the inside. There is plenty of angst involving the owner of the Manor, Dallas, and Colten's estranged mother, but all somehow gets resolved. Loved the characters, the laidback lifestyle at the lake, and the fabulous romance. Really great book!

A summer away from the stress and hustle of LA was just what Landon and Colt needed. June Lake wasn’t just a small town, but a breath of fresh air for them both. Away from the demands of his job as a high powered criminal defense attorney, Landon could be the father Colt always hoped he’d been. And what’s a summer at the lake without a summer romance?

Jewel had to get over a whole lot of attitude from the new visitor in town in order to see the man he could be. I loved their early interactions, clashing full of misunderstanding and drama. But when the anger gave way, the sparks flew between them.

The road to be together wasn’t smooth, but it made for a great story.
