Reut was born in Camelot in the year 1201, following the famous explosion of the northern dragon tower. She has a degree in fantasy and science fiction from the University of Atlantis and this record can be found in the central library, now twenty thousand leagues under the sea.
She likes phoenix riding, dragon fighting and painting the roses red.
Author’s Review: the writing of Dark Flame: I had to up the stakes. Julie and Mark couldn’t have it easy after what she did in Blue Diamond. And as part of building the magical world around them, it was time to introduce perhaps the most dangerous magical creature in the whole series: the Okawi. A phoenix-type being that could penetrate minds! With the threat of the Guild growing and a moving story starts with Julie and Ralph… a new enemy that is more monstrous than before, plus a deadly secret that can be used against Julie when Mark desperately struggles to keep the woman he loves safe...Ooh! Stakes are definitely up!
If Blue Diamond was my magical first kiss with this series, Dark Flame is the full-blown, soul-shaking, “oh hell, I just married the man who might kill me” honeymoon phase. And guess what? I devoured it. Flames, fears, fangs—bring it.
Julie is still that girl—clever, powerful, torn between her magic and her morals—but now she’s got bigger dragons to ride and even darker shadows to face. And this time, the shadow has a name: Mark. Her love. Her protector. Her almost-husband… and a man with something deep and dangerous crawling just beneath the surface.
Let’s just say this book didn’t tiptoe into conflict—it dove in and dragged my heart along for the ride.
Now, I’m not saying I screamed when the Guild threatened not just Mark, but their future children (okay, maybe I screamed a lot). Because when Reut Barak says “no forgiveness,” she means it. The Guild’s vendetta? Cruel. Cold.
Unforgivable. And Julie? She doesn’t blink. She rises. Fierce. Wild. Protective. I live for that kind of love—the kind that will burn the world down if it means saving what matters.
And then there’s Mark. Ohhh Mark. He’s not your usual broody love interest anymore—he’s shifting. Cracking. Something ancient and furious is waking inside him, and as much as it terrifies Julie, it terrified me too. And that’s what made this story so damn compelling. Because love isn’t just about kissing in the moonlight—it’s about standing in the fire when your partner becomes something you might have to destroy.
The romance? Still epic. Still aching. Still very much a “don’t-touch-her” kind of love that makes me feral in the best way. But the stakes? They’ve gone nuclear. Every kiss now feels like a countdown. Every look has weight. And the whole time I’m reading, I’m wondering if their love can survive not just magic, but who they are becoming.
If you're ready to: ✅ Feel every heartbeat and betrayal like a gut punch ✅ Watch love twist under the weight of impossible choices ✅ Root for a heroine who won’t go down without a hell of a fight ✅ Swoon over a morally-gray man who might just become the villain—or the savior...
Then Dark Flame is the wild, beautiful heartbreak you need next.
Reut Barak has written a love story that burns—and I am scorched, spellbound, and 100% hooked.
5 stars—and one big, trembling YES to being Julie Ralston, no matter the cost. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need a dragon-sized blanket and book 3. Immediately.
So, I started reading the Evans Witches trilogy books out of order. I started with the second trilogy and then went back to the beginning.
Wow! I honestly thought that Julie and Mark would have to go through something in the second book, it would be boring if they didn’t, but this? This is what the author chose to put us and her characters through?
I honestly don’t know how to describe what goes on in this book that isn’t included in the synopsis or would contain spoilers.
Let me just say, if you are a fan, hold in there. I have hope for the third book and recommend this one as well, it just might increase your blood pressure a little or have you yelling at the characters, the author or both.
I would like to thank the author and BookSprout for a copy of this book. I am looking forward to the conclusion in this trilogy. All opinions are my own and my reviews are voluntarily given. As always, I wish you happy reading!
I have seldom come across a book that made me churn through chapters at such a pace as Dark Flame.
I'm truly impressed at the way Reut has managed to weave a tale that feels so personal, real, and dangerous as she has in this book and the one previous. The pacing is fantastic, the characters are real, the romance is tangable, the danger is present. Just overall, a well done, suspenseful book. Your emotions will sway from feelings of exstacy to feelings of excitment as the story transitions smoothly from romance to action/thriller.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review, but would have anyways because it's a truly great book
This is book 2 of Evan’s Witches. as you start reading, you can tell that it starts with the ending of the first book. Right off the bat, you have a couple magic and enemies. As the story goes, you are wondering if the enemies will catch up to the family, is the threats will become reality, and will everything they love be the end. Will their magic bond hold. The characters are very detailed and the story keeps you involved. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Once again Reut Barak has written a book that has magic, love, betrayal, loss and heat ! Julie and Mark’s lives are on the line and secrets unfold. Excellent storyline and characters you love and care about. It ends on a cliffhanger, darn it ! Must read the series in order to fully appreciate and understand what’s happening. 5✨’s.

In this installment of the Evans Witches series, we are once again with Julie and Mark. The whole problem of Julie twinning her powers to save Mark has to be dealt with because Julie has noticed the darkness in Mark revealing itself. I really adore these stories. I love the magic, the dragons and all the emotions they bring out. But that ending! I can’t believe the ending of this one!
