Daniel Was Here

Rate this book
One morning in 1983 Philadelphia, a boy brought a blanket to a girl at the bus stop. What bloomed from there should have been impossible.

Maya was a punk princess locked into an abusive relationship and Daniel a home-schooled Jewish boy with a secret. No matter how unlikely this couple was, nothing could keep them apart.

This book tells the story of forbidden love, breaking free of an abusive relationship, and the process of healing. This story is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time! Thank you C.L. For allowing me a glimpse into your beautiful soul!

Just finished this read here are my first thoughts- hard to write a review without revealing to much - but this is how I felt.

Brilliant, unforgettable, and very contemporary novel - & that Day 61 heart-wrenching letter sure got me all teary but in a good way as Daniel got to voice his beliefs - I felt that moment had power and real longevity.

The book brings to life two people who on the face of it couldn’t have less in common. The strength of what they are to each other - you understand this as the story develops. The build up and suspense had me page turning will Maya end that turbulent unhealthy relationship and what does Daniels friendship change for Maya.

Daniel& Maya - I really liked how the intimacy played out like a slow satisying intimate dance - the age gap nicely butting in as achinly forbidden( not sexualised or gratuitous in the prose( the whole book is more relationships driven ) ,as their attraction to each other intensifies noting that Daniel makes all the first steps testing how far he can push through.

Lots of emotionally charged situations that make the love story one-of-a-kind. Writing presents these scenes gently to the reader in perfect juxtapostion to the cage that Rob represents. There is two powerful.moments when it came to Rob, awareness he is victim of his own toxic upbringing and Daniel's wiser than his years putting it out there to Maya not accept all the good things that Rob has done as equaliser for Robs brutal actions - its time to feel free to connect her freedom on her terms.Daniel really felt like an older soul.

Expressing love & reassurance are strong themes in this read. I do hope this continues as a series with more standalones highlighting stories with characters with chronic conditions.

Reading Experience. Cathatic. A quick read.
