When the world becomes dark, can you be the light?
Elda Gild is next in line for the throne, betrothed to a monster that wants her crown, and a pawn for a father who is king first, family second. Doomed to a short, painful life at the hands of the ambitious Lord Rhydian Horthan, all seems lost.
When the Soul Forge steps into Elda’s path, everything changes. The Spirits have claimed her as their champion, but her new mentor is hiding a dark secret and an even darker past.
Will Elda have the strength to fix a broken soul? Or will Valerus burn?
Oh my gosh guys ya need to read this book! Do read the trigger warnings. But my gosh it was such a great story. And the characters I feel in love with them all. I laughed I almost cried which is really hard to make me do with a book. Read it!!! That is all.
I absolutely loved it, I could not put it down it had me hooked straight away I felt like I was there with the characters in the story. It ended on a cliffhanger, and I can not wait to see what happens next
This was one of the best books I've read this year and I can't wait for you all to dive in on release day!
We meet Elda, a princess who's unfortunately very sheltered by her father, but that doesn't stop her curiosity from exploring the world beyond the palace. She's next in line to the throne and is doomed to a life with a Lord who is less than pleasant.
Enter the Soul Forge, who steps in at just the right time - he's a legend known across the land and when he announces the spirits have named her as their new champion, her life as she knows it flips upside down... The Princess now must face her fate, learning to fight and become the best wielder she can be, whilst trying to navigate her relationship with the Soul Forge as their enemies close in...
This was without a doubt one of the best fantasy books I've ever read, Georgia is pure magic and has created this incredible world that I never want to leave. I absolutely LOVED the dynamic between Elda and Sypher; their love hate relationship was so amusing to watch unfold - and don't even get me started on Vel.
Finding out the dark parts of the Soul Forges past was so heartbreaking, explaining how he’d become who he was and what he struggled with. Elda truly brought out the best in him and it was a beautiful relationship that blossoms.
Julian and Nox had me laughing throughout and I absolutely loved how protective Reiner was. Each character was absolutely perfect, from those who were friends turned into found family, to those who were enemies. I was gripped from page to page and the cliffhanger had me on the edge of my seat!

This is masterfully written!!! Beautiful cover, beautiful plot. The writer did an amazing job with this one. It gives the Sarah J Maas kind of vibe. I have been in a book slump for over a year, but all it took was this interesting debut by George May to draw me out. Full review coming...
I'm stunned! Stunned, I tell you! 🤯 This fantasy deserves ALL THE HYPE on BookTok! (Someone famous needs to make that happen! Right now!)
If you're looking for... -Angels 🪽 -Demons 😈 -Unique magic systems 🪄 -Completely original worlds 🌍 -A strong FMC 💪 -Split personalities 😵💫 -Marriage of convenience 👰🤵 -EXTREME trauma (Check your trigger warnings! ⚠️) -Touch her and ☠️ -Incredibly well-thought-out monsters 👻
Elda's story is NOT the story here; she is the catalyst that propels Sypher/Vel to tell their story. I applaud Georgia May for her ability to weave Mental Health awareness into the forefront of her novel and demonstrate the little victories SA survivors experience each day.
This isn't the fairytale Elda was hoping for when she agreed to marry Sypher, but it is a necessary one to see that the corrupt world she and so many others get the chance to reshape their futures without intervention from the Spirits. (We. Really. Don't. Like. Them. 😠)
As soon as Soul Forge comes out, you MUST get it! I always enter ARC reads with a certain hesitation, but this one, happily, proved me wrong in every regard. I wait with bated breath for the sequel in The Shadowed Crown series, knowing I will likely ask for the ARC on that one too. 😉
PS: That cliffhanger should be illegal! 😭 Why must you torture me so???
Amazing fantasy novel Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 September 2024 This is the first book from Georgia May that I have read and I absolutely loved it. The level of intricate detail, developing characters' relationships and story line with continual battles; internal and external with darkness and light kept me intrigued throughout, so much so I couldn't put it down. The unusual relationship between Elda and Sypher is filled with intrigue and complex dynamics that slowly start to blossom leaving you wondering what will happen next. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a fantasy novel with complex characters and a dynamic story line. Can't wait to read more from Georgia.
ARC Review: This book is quite stunning. A nice, smooth read that leaves you hooked chapter after chapter. It is a Chosen-One type of story, but is also more than that. The writing focuses on more than simply the protagonists journey and involves her companions. Elda is a great protagonist and I would kill to see some art of Sypher and Vel. Simply fascinating concepts that I do recommend for romance/fantasy readers.
Absolutely fantastic story. It kept me gripped from the start!!! I could see the characters so clearly and even loved Vel a little🫣 I can't wait for Requiem, preordered for August!!! Thanks Georgia 🥰🥰
This was an epic fantasy story from start to finish. We follow Elda, the newest chosen Wielder, and Sypher, a mythic hero tasked with training her, as they navigate their newfound alliance.
One of the things that stood out to me was the gentleness that Elda shows throughout the story, despite being able to be fierce if necessary. I also enjoyed the fact that we could see her abilities grow, but it wasn't too fast paced and she didn't become extremely powerful out of the blue, adding to her dilemma whenever a fighting sequence arrived.
Sypher stole my heart from the very beginning. His story and development through the novel brought me to tears, and I think Georgia handled his traumas extremely carefully and well. While I am also a fan of Vel and I believe his arc is important as well, I'm a Sypher girl through and through. Still have a soft spot for Julian in my heart, though.
I received this novel as an Advanced Reader Copy, and I could not be more grateful to Georgia May for that. I can't wait to see what she has in store next for Elda and Sypher.
PS: I was terribly excited when I saw that the words Georgia used for her Angelic language come from or are inspired by the Basque Language, one of my birth languages, so there's extra points for that!

If you are looking for a debut indie author with an amazing fantasy novel, look no further than Georgia May and her novel Soul Forge!
Elda’s life changes when the Soul Forge arrives on the night of her engagement with news that the spirits have chosen Elda to be their new champion. Taken away from the walls that have held her captive her whole life, Elda is ready to embrace her new role. However, the Soul Forge is less than happy about the new arrangement and is even less pleased when he begins to train her. But when news reaches them of friends needing help, can the Soul Forge put aside his grudge and trust Elda, and will Elda be able to step up and save her people?
What a read!! This book is amazing. I couldn't put it down, I loved every second of it. Georgia's writing came to life as I read and made it flow so seamlessly which made it easy to read. I devoured the story, full of twists, sorrow, joy and revelations. The themes of hope, trust and betrayal were perfect! The ending was my only issue. If you don't like cliffhangers then maybe wait to read this until book 2 is out!
The pacing flowed from one scene to the next excellently and Georgia's writing style is amazing! I was never confused or bored, always kept on there edge of my seat, swooning over the characters.
I loved Elda. Her strong personality, always facing problems head-on. But still allowing the weaker emotions to show through. The way she bonds with the minor characters was so beautifully done. And when she and the Soul Forge finally form a friendship she clings to that and doesn't let him tear it up.
The Soul Forge was a really interesting character. I wanted to know more about him from the minute he stepped onto the page. The way he treated Elda when they first met. The things he did to keep her safe! His story, as we discover it, is truly heartbreaking and it made me sob to think of the things he has been through. The way that Elda holds him together and he leans on her for support was so well written it made the emotions I felt ten times worse.
Overall I loved this book! And I can't wait for book 2 to come out so I can know what happens next!
It took me way longer to read this than I had hoped, sadly life got busy and in the way, but literally every spare second I had was spent reading at least a page of this book!
I absolutely loved this! The world and characters that Georgia May has managed to create is brilliant. The main characters, their links to their spirits, the friendship, comraderie and interactions with one another are so well thought out and portrayed so very well on the page.
Sypher and Vel both have my heart, and to be quite honest, I'd happily have them both, but I think Vel sways it. And also... wings! Yes please and thank you!
I love the strong willed character of Elda, but how her vulnerability is shown on the page. That voice of doubt we all have inside our heads so aptly demonstrated. She felt real, I could relate to her (although sadly I have not been chosen by the spirits to be the next weilder, but I sit her hoping one day it's my turn)
I loved the action in the book, it's wasn't just another mindless fantasy book where romance steals the plot.
There was so much depth to it and it is sooooo well set up for the next book, which I definitely can not wait to read.
This one was a new one for me as Georgia is an author l've only recently come across. Soul Forge has a few themes that readers may find upsetting, so I would check out any content warnings before reading.
Overall it is a good read and the characters have been well written, a book full of fantasy and adventure, one that will keep you invested in the outcome.
Blurb Elda Gild is next in line for the throne, betrothed to a monster that wants her crown, and a pawn for a father who is king first, family second. Doomed to a short, painful life at the hands of the ambitious Lord Rhydian Horthan, all seems lost. When the Soul Forge steps into Elda's path, everything changes. The Spirits have claimed her as their champion, but her new mentor is hiding a dark secret and an even darker past. Will Elda have the strength to fix a broken soul? Or will Valerus burn?
If you are after something full of adventure, magic, friendship and romance, then this is for you. Soul Forge has something for everyone and something happening in every chapter.
The book has a very strong start that hooked me straight away, and each chapter carries on like this, with something going on that seems important.
Unfortunately for me, I did struggle to connect with the characters (even though they are well written and have good back stories) but I think that’s a me problem rather than an issue with the writing.
Overall, this book is very well written and is something that I think fantasy lovers will enjoy!
4.75/5!! This was such a great read, it’s gotten me out of a reading slump so we love that,, I LOVE the character development Elda has, she’s the girly girl I love but yet so strong and goes through so much hardship, her 👀 sypher 👀 VEL!?? I love my “split personality” man, justice for Sypher and Vel, both of them deserve the world Aka Elda. But EXCUSE ME GEORGIA!? What was that ending?? I require the second book this instant ♥️
This book. Wow. I was laughing. I'm about to cry. Swooning. Everything. Literally all the feels. I'm addicted to the characters and Georgia's writing is immaculate.
Vel? Sypher? 🤷🏼♀️
This was just such a good debut and I'll be screaming when I get my hands on a physical copy.
Wow. This book is amazing! Fantastically written! Stunning fantasy novel. I couldn’t peel my eyes away! I’m not usually into fantasy but I’m so glad I gave this book a chance! Definitely worth the read! The cover is beautiful 😍 The plot is amazing! Character development is unreal! ……..CLIFFHANGER Can’t wait for book 2!!
Absolutely amazing from start to finish! A wonderful epic fantasy adventure in a well developed and incredibly detailed world. The heroine is much more than your typical fantasy FMC, and the way her character grows throughout the story is very well written. Sypher gives off definite Geralt vibes (which I know we all love!!) and his backstory is both tragic and exceptionally well played into the story. And to top it off the story contains well developed and written side characters, and a slow burn romance with a little bit of spice… who could want more? And after that ending I need the next book now!!
If you love: Grumpy X Sunshine Enemies To Lovers Touch Her & 💀 Shadow Daddy 🥵 Broody Winged Male He Falls First SLOW Burn Romance Kick Ass Magic System Angels & Demons 😘 Gods & Goddesses Valkyrie and Vampires
Then give this book a try! Please read the trigger warnings though!!
Our story follows Elda Gild, Princess of Eden who has a deep yearning for freedom from the life that is suppressing her dreams, and Sypher our grumpy, shadow daddy MMC who comes to Elda’s rescue from a terrible fate and then whisks her away to train as his next Wielder to help him defeat the evil Lord Malakai.
Sypher’s story is heartbreaking and watching him grow throughout the book was so heartwarming it made me truly happy to see and I can tell you I am thoroughly obsessed 😍.
All of the characters in this book are incredibly well thought out and so beautifully written. You’ll be laughing and crying or wanting to throttle people left and right in the best possible way!
Reader be aware that the cliff hanger is absolutely CRIMINAL.
I don’t want to spoil anything for new readers, but I swear on my life this is worth the read!
“If you don’t move in the next three seconds,” the stranger warned, “I will slit you open from your neck to your groin, you rotten waste of flesh.”
For the author: MA’AM I am absolutely in love with your work of art here. I will be the first to admit that when I initially signed up for an ARC I was a little skeptical of the angel/demon aspect because it’s not what I was used to reading. A few years ago my love for reading was reignited by ACOTAR, which sent me down the fae rabbit hole (no complaints.. my soul yearns to live in Velaris to this day) so a part of me was like “hmmm no cool faerie world?” but I was SO wrong. I was absolutely FLOORED by this entire book and it was incredibly difficult to put my phone down, so much so that I had to read this book twice in a row to truly wrap my brain around everything that happened. It truly is a masterpiece and I am very eagerly waiting for Requiem to come out next year!
It was such an epic, fantasy filled adventure with a bit of spice as a bonus!
We meet Elda, Princess of Eden, whilst she's lived a very sheltered land it's not all been rainbows and sunshine and its very clear her father has been abusive throughout her childhood.
Elda has been told off her father that she must marry a suitor, but not just any suitor, Prince Horthan who's rumoured to be abusive and cruel, especially to women.
At the ball where she must choose the Prince she will marry, Elda is cornered by Horthan in a hallway where its clear his intentions are to take what he wants whether she likes it or not. Insert the Soul Forge, Sypher who saves her from an awful fate.
Sypher has lived for over 8 centuries and every so often the spirits will reveal a new wielder for him to train and bond with, the new wielder chosen is Elda. He throws his his hat in the ring to marry Elda to save her from Horthan and so she can face her destiny as a wielder.
After marrying, Elda and Sypher go on an epic journey to train, though Sypher has become cold towards his wielder, he shows clear dislike for all wielders. Elda shows him she's different from the others when her spirit reveals why he hates the wielders.
We follow the pair where they face trials and tribulations, demons and the corrupted (a pair of previous wielders who turned to the dark side).
There's so much more to unpack but I don't want to give any spoilers, but the plot is just utterly amazing, the character development phenomenal and it was everything I wanted and more in a fantasy book. Not only that, most of you know that in the past I struggle to read 3rd person narrative due to my ADHD brain struggle to connect with characters, but this book has turned me! It's the first 3rd person narrative I've been able to truly feel connected to in every way!!
Soul Forge was an absolute standout read for me! I’m a huge fan of typical fantasy and romantasy, but this book offered something different and I loved this. The world and characters felt so real and the plot full of twists that kept me guessing. Georgia May you are amazing, your story struck the perfect balance between genre comforts and unexpected turns. Highly recommend and I'm currently powering my way through Requiem. See you soon in Leeds 😁
This was a book that I didn’t want to binge my way through, I wanted to enjoy it - so much happens but the pace is steady as it’s builds to the end. The last 10-20% was intense!
The world building is so descriptive and well done - plenty of detail to give you an idea but you can still fill in with your own imagination.
The characters are diverse and combined bring all the elements I love in a story with plenty of banter, back story, building of friendships and action. I want more of the side characters - such a good mix of personalities! Elda felt relatable (perfectly imperfect)- her feelings and actions made sense and her character grew through the book.
A great start to the series and I’m looking forward to finding out what happens next!
This is my second read and it’s still as good as the first time!!!!! For a debut novel, this book is INSANELY DONE. Give your self a pat on the back girl!!!!
The world that Georgia has created is magnificent and is amazing!! Sometimes it’s hard to be thrown into a new world but she writes it so well and eases any confusion because it felt like I’ve known the characters for a life time.
Ofc there is romance but the best thing is that it doesn’t solely rely on that, with the action scenes being well written and kept me INSANELY hooked!!!
Sypher is a typical fell hard first kinda guy and I really truly love Elda and him.
Vel …. 👀 well I love me some shadow-daddy but eeeeep.
Ending on a cliffhanger was mean of Georgia May but has me HOOKED to reading the next one.
I loved everything about this book. Elda and Sypher are both so strong in their own ways. Getting Sypher's backstory made me cry a bit. I loved the magic system and the different creatures. I won't say too much on this one so all the twists & turns can surprise you too.
Will Elda come into her own powers and help save Valerus? You will just have to read this gem to find out! Thank you Georgia May for the opportunity to Arc read for you!
Well hello awesomeness, goodbye mundane! This wasn't a read, this was an all encompassing involvement, a total convergence of all my senses! Catapulting me to experience EVERYTHING so completely that I was ready to fall apart at THAT ending! Like, NOOOOOOO as I shoved my stomach back in the cavity that had been wrenched open. Deep breath.... let's start at the beginning....
Princess Elda has a less than caring father, well, of her that is, and is being forced into a marriage to a real scumbag with an even worse reputation. He very soon shows his his vile nature and my heart was jumping in anxiety! But, phew, in come a Soul Forge, Sypher, to the rescue in the nick of time. Not only does he save her from Horthan, he marries her! Why? Well, as a Soul Forge, the spirits inform him he's to bond with Elda and train her as a Wielder. And so begins an adventure for them and for us, the reader. And golly is it ever an adventure! Their journey wasn't smooth sailing though, Sypher has a loathing for wielders, and his disdain is evident. He withdraws behind a facade of ice but Elsa chips away at it. She's such a wonderful likeable person, she can melt icebergs with her niceness. The way their relationship develops is gorgeous, slowly, methodically, realistically for 2 people getting to know the other. When the reason for Sypher's intense dislike of wielders is revealed, it's easy to understand. And when they have to fight off wielders, his reasoning is validated. Except, not all wielders turn rotten and corrupt, which is evident with Elda.
Gosh it's so difficult to put into words how much these two swept me away! And along! To see the two of them forge a love so pure, well heck, that made my entire body brim with excitement! That's how vested I was in them, in the story. The deep hurts they both carried disapate along the way, exposing them in all their glory! Elda went from dutiful, naive and obedient, to someone who can stand her ground, confident and a total badass. Sypher too undergoes changes, all that he had suppressed and hidden behind his gruff approach, softens and melts away. This author, a brand new author, turned my head around! She was staggeringly adept at at her approach to the story, clear and fresh, yet powerful. Not only her words had power, she blended the right elements at the right time with sensitive and flair. She tackled real issues, issues that can be difficult to confront, in much the same way. And what emerged was a beautiful beautiful story, an epically fantastical tale of growth, of trust, of found family, of finding oneself, of love and of letting go of the past.
This is a book that uncovers and exposes all the emotions, the painful ones, the uncertain ones, the healing ones, the loving ones. The plot was incredible as was the world building, a true building up of a step by step approach, just as the author did with the characters, magnificent! I finished in one sitting, nevermind the length, which is over 500 pages, my butt refused to lift itself off the couch! In truth, the time I spent reading it passed in a blur, it felt like a jiffy, I was totally unaware at the hours had passed.... I'm not sure how I received an ARC for this book but I'm doing a happy dance that the gods dropped it in my lap!
Soul Forge, I wish more than anything that I'd entered this world sooner because this isn't just a book, it's an experience.
From the very first page, I was hooked. Her debut into the fantasy romance genre is nothing short of incredible. It has emotional intensity, stunning depth and masterful storytelling that proves she's building a complete other world in fiction. At the start of the book, we are introduced to Princess Elda, a young woman shackled by, not iron but by tradition and expectation. Elda's life is dictated by her father, the King who makes all her choices for her, forbidden to learn or to read, or venture out. She is expected to marry the toxic Lord Rhydian Horthan. Her moments of stolen freedom through forests infested with dangers to both magical and mortal speak volumes of her yearning for more. When the spirits choose her as their champion and assign her to the Soul Forge, Sypher, her world cracks open and so does the readers heart. What follows is a deeply emotional and thrilling journey filled with magic, and an complicated relationship. Their connection is not a fairytale, but something raw, real and it's enemies to lovers, mistrust to complete unexpected loyalty and hate to love so fierce it affected every part of me. Sypher is nothing like a traditional love interest, he's haunting, brooding and carries such a darkness that makes him both dangerous and magnetic, including a secret that I cannot reveal without spoiling the book. The world building is expansive and deeply immersive. From cursed forests to ancient magic, soul-bound corruption and demonic corruption.
Beyond the main characters, the side ones are an amazing touch, each one bringing something vital to the story such as Vel, Reiner, and Julian. Vel is a standout for me, I won't spoil anything but it is honestly nothing short of fantastic.
Georgia does not shy away from heavy themes, so please take care when reading as the book includes the following:

"More than the stars, more than the moon, more than my favourite book or the forest when it rains, everything that I am, and everything that I have, it's all yours."
Reading this book felt like falling in love and being torn apart at the same time. It’s a long book, yes, but not a word is wasted. Every chapter builds toward a climax that left me reeling and desperate for the sequel. This book deserves to explode on BookTok, and I really hope it does with all my being. This book is not just a recommendation, it's a requirement. I won't forget this one.
Soul Forge, the first book in The Shadowed Crown series, is the debut novel from Georgia May and has firmly cemented itself as one of my tops reads of the year.
It introduces us to Elda, Princess of Eden who craves a life beyond the palace, one where she is not a pawn to her father, or facing marriage to a Lord who only wants her crown. When it seems Elda is condemned to a life with a ruthless monster, Soul Forge appears and announces the Spirits have named Elda their next champion, changing the course of her life.
Elda's journey from being a commodity to her father and a bystander in her own life to the confident, strong wielder who faces her fears is beautifully developed. Georgia found the perfect way to portray Elda as the badass she was meant to be without her losing her compassion, tenderness & grace.
Soul Forge is Elda's mentor who hides a dark secret and darker past. Known to those close to him as Sypher, Soul Forge dislikes wielders but must train Elda if they are to save Valeris.
Initially the relationship between Elda and Sypher is complex and tension filled but grows to one of mutual respect and more. Their growing connection is heartwarming and it is refreshing to see a relationship between main characters that isn't focused on lust or love at first sight.
The side characters are as fully developed as the main ones with glimpses into their histories and what make them who they are. The villains are written in a way that you truly despise them (something that is no easy feat).
This book is more than just Elda's story. Georgia May needs to be commended for the way she has delicately handled a number of sensitive topics and the struggles that come with them. Soul Forge is a demonstration of mental health awareness and the small triumphs that survivors experience on a daily basis.
The world building is phenomenal and the intricate details and vivid scenary bring the story to life. With unique magic, demons, angels, twists & turns, joy, grief, intrigue & betrayal, this is not just a book. It is an experience.
If you are looking for an epic edge of your seat fantasy with a cliffhanger that will leave you needing more - run, don't walk to get your copy of Soul Forge when it releases on 20 Sept. Better yet - preorder now because this book will be the next big thing, and yes, it really is worth all the hype that will come with it.
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (and a cherry on top) Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Soul Forge is a dark fantasy that follows Elda Gild, a princess trapped in a life of political scheming and destined to marry the ruthless Horthan, who only wants her crown. With her father more concerned with the kingdom than his daughter’s fate, Elda's future seems grim. But when the mysterious Soul Forge intervenes, Elda is chosen by the Spirits to become their champion. Under the guidance of a mentor hiding dangerous secrets, Elda must find the strength to confront her destiny—and the growing threat of war.
Georgia May’s Soul Forge delivers an absolute masterclass in world-building. From the very first page, you're immersed in a magical and mythical world that feels both ancient and original. It goes far beyond a reimagination of tropes and classics- May draws broadly from mythology to create a masterpiece that's wholly her own. The rich tapestry of diverse settings is brimming with potential, offering plenty to explore in future installments. The novel is beautifully descriptive and moves at a perfect pace, drawing readers in with vivid imagery and a sense of impending danger.
The characters in Soul Forge are equally impressive. Elda Gild, the protagonist, is fully fleshed out—her decisions, strengths, and vulnerabilities make her a compelling and relatable heroine. Each character is distinct and consistent, making choices that align with their motives and backgrounds. Through them, May captures a hero's journey that truly feels like a journey again. The novel also handles heavy themes like loss and trauma with care, presenting them in a way that feels raw yet authentic.
Perhaps one of my favourite elements of the story is the slow-burn romance. The chemistry between Elda and Sypher (&..) is palpable, and their relationship develops at just the right pace, keeping readers hooked from the moment they meet. Their dynamic is fascinating, and it’s impossible not to root for them as a couple.
Soul Forge is more than just a dark fantasy; it's a story that (literally) had me up all night, eagerly turning pages, thanks to its flawless pacing and emotional depth. This is what Fantasy is meant to be, that exhillerating feeling of discovery and adventure. Georgia May has crafted a debut that is both thrilling and thought-provoking. I’ll be recommending this book with my whole heart—this is a world and story you won't want to miss.
I did it. I read it under 4 hrs because I couldn't stop. I am now sitting here reeling and have no words. I saw the cliffhanger coming but it didn't hurt any less. I knew it. I KNEW IT! But I still have tears in my eyes. Whyyyyyy!???!!?? 😭😭😫😫😭😫 Georgia HOW COULD YOU DO THIS!!??! I NEED HIM BACK. I NEED THEM BACK NOW!! SAFE AND SOUND!!! I NEED BOOK 2!!! PLEASE!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭🙏😭😭🙏😫😫😭 WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH MY LIFE???!??
Okay now that I have gotten my grievances out of the way, I absolutely loved this book 😄🤌 I kept putting off reading it because I was in a slump but I am so glad I did because it blew away all my expectations. I didn't expect to feel so attached to these characters but I was. I highlighted and bookmarked something in every single chapter. I kept guessing and predicting and it was so much fun when it was right like with Sypher's past. I knew as soon as they crossed the archives and said the name of the city. Iykyk 😁 But then there were time I didn't like being right. Like that last chapter 😐
I have some regret picking up the book even though I knew it was a series and book 2 wasn't out yet, but I'm glad I did it, for them. Elda and Sephyr. Elda and Vel. I just love them 😍😍😫😭😭😍😍 The banter and tension? It killed me!!!! 🤭🤌🤌🤭🥵 They are everything. I don't know what else to say. It was everything 🥰 Also, I'm yours >>>>>>> You're mine!!! 🤭🤌🤌😍😍 It's so much better. It needs to be the standard!!! 🙂 And the spice, ohhh the spice 🤌🤌🥵🥵 Ugh I just love them!! 💙
The side characters were amazing. Reiner was the perfect mom figure and I absolutely loved the bond she had with Elda. Julian being the funny one and his relationship with Sypher was hilarious. They're definitely like family 💙 I hated Lillian on sight instantly and hope she dies a very deserved painful death.
I had no idea of half of the people and plot and places because I was so focused on Elda and Sypher/Vel 😂😂😍 I had to force myself to reread the important paragraphs to know what was going on 😂 Thankfully I highlighted most of it. I now desperately need to get a paperback to transfer all my annotations and highlights and I need Book 2 to be released now! 🤗 Please Georgia. I'm begging you!! Please let it be a duet and an HEA. I don't think I can suffer more than I already have 😭😭😂💙
I received an advance readers copy (arc) for free and am voluntarily leaving a review!
Soul Forge by Georgia May is an extraordinary fantasy novel that swept me away into a world of magic, intrigue, and deeply human emotions. From the moment I opened the book, I was captivated by the vivid and intricate world-building. The lore is rich, the history is detailed, and every corner of this universe feels meticulously crafted. Georgia doesn’t just create a setting—she breathes life into it, making every scene come alive with vibrant imagery and a sense of wonder.
At the heart of this epic tale is Elda Gild, a princess trapped in a life that seems destined for tragedy. Betrothed to a ruthless Lord, she is caught in a web of power, betrayal, and familial duty. But when the mysterious Soul Forge chooses her as his champion, Elda's path takes a turn that is as unexpected as it is thrilling. Her transformation from a pawn to a force of nature is a journey that’s both empowering and heart-wrenching.
The relationship between Elda and her mentor, Sypher, is one of the most compelling aspects of the book. Their dynamic is complex and layered, filled with tension, mutual respect, and a growing bond that feels both genuine and profound. Watching Elda and Sypher navigate their relationship was beautiful and kept me hungrily devouring the pages.
I also have to commend the sensitive and thoughtful way Georgia handles difficult topics throughout the story. The characters' struggles with inner demons, their battles against darkness—both literal and metaphorical—are portrayed with a depth that resonates. Sypher’s own journey, along with Vel’s, offers a stark and moving exploration of redemption and the weight of the past.
This isn’t just a book—it’s an experience. Georgia has crafted a story that’s as much about the battle between light and darkness as it is about the struggles within the human soul. This book has left a mark on me, and I can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone who loves epic fantasy, complex characters, and a story that will stay with you long after the last page is turned. 💖📚
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
“Everything that I have, everything that I am, it’s all yours. It was the moment you chose me. You cast a light so bright it chases away my darkest shadows.”
Oh Georgiaaaa… I just wanna talk to you. Because excuse me? The AUDACITY to make me completely fall in love only to shatter my heart. How dare you create such a masterpiece.
This… I mean. Honestly WOW..
This has become one of my FAVORITE books I have ever read… I’m completely obsessed. Let’s start from the beginning. 1. We all love a dark, shadow wielding, moody MMC and Georgia does a phenomenal job at capturing that from the start. 2. The character development is smooth, effortless and everything just first together perfectly. 3. The dynamics had me laughing, giggling, and gasping all in the same time frame.
This hit so many marks for me on not only the plot, storyline, and overall creation that it left me mind boggled. The book gives us our cliches we all love, however it was a breath of fresh air. It was new, exciting and so so captivating.
This is also the first book I’ve ever that has a character with a touch phobia/reluctance and I felt so seen… it’s so rare and uncommon to see.. it made my heart tug at the seems with every. Single. Moment.
I will be adding this book to my trophy shelf, and this will absolutely be a book I’ll need in every single format, version, etc. I need the merch, the fan art, I need it all… and I need it like, yesterday.
If you haven’t added this to your TBR… what are you even doing?
