In 1369, Killian the Dwyer is a young druid still learning to rule his people. His journey is aided by his peers. Two years ago, Killian accepted an opportunity to join a council of respected leaders. Which is why, on one fateful day, Killian and his fellow leaders venture to a castle of dragons.
Their intent is to build an alliance—what they find is death. But that is not all Killian discovers. Standing alone in a garden is a shy dragon with scales of a deep dark green—Killian’s favored hue. The shifter’s name is Duke Dravyn D’Vairedraconis, and he is Killian’s mate.
Dravyn knows little about the world. At four, he lost his parents and his uncle made him into a servant. Now, Dravyn is standing across from a sorcerer, and Killian’s magic scares him and his beast. Although he cannot deny that Killian is beautiful, Dravyn has no words to convey the mixture of emotions brewing in him.
Hours after Killian leaves the castle, a twist changes everything. Soon, more than fear separates Killian and Dravyn. Obstacles stand between them, but Fate has already paired their souls. What are they willing to sacrifice to honor the goddess and the tug of their hearts?
Jessamyn Kingley has published over forty titles and refuses to pick a favorite among them. With an extraordinary passion for her characters, Jessamyn eagerly crafts new tales and avidly re-reads them whenever her schedule allows. Jessamyn shares a home in Nevada with her husband and their three spoiled cats. When she is not writing or adding new ideas to her thick stack of beloved notebooks, she is gaming with family and friends.
I liked revisiting the D'Vaire world and seeing what would have happened if events played out differently. I'm just not sure I liked the way the author went about it. It made me feel bad for all the characters and also made it hard to view them as real people. They seemed more like puppets that were being manipulated by the goddesses and that bothered me a bit. Overall, I enjoyed it and will definitely read more in this alternate universe.
An interesting new series that is very intriguing.
I've always enjoyed the D'Vaire series. I am going to be looking forward to this new series just to see what's going to happen next. I like the fact that Ms. Kingly has very good plot lines and story lines not absolutely smothered in the sex situations. There's a very good balance in her writing between the fun and naughty content and the storyline of a little bit of intrigue, a little bit of angst, a good deal of interesting plot, and the ability to root for different characters. Her characters are always interesting don't ever seem to be just there, but in the moment. I look forward to the next in this series.
I was skeptical at 1st, but wow were all my fears turned to dust. Ms. Kingley has found a way to let us discover all our favorite characters in new and different ways. The world is basically the same but circumstances are different and make for whole different groups and dynamics. I enjoyed this new twist of the D'Vaire world, and look forward the reading how the lives of these beloved characters turn out and all their new love stories.
Kingsley does a remarkable job creating the first 'Twisted Tale.' If you've been reading about the D'vaires and their kin for a while, you can rejoice that many of them return (in some fashion) in this novel. Killian and Dravyn's story somehow does not take a back seat to the author twisting the history of her tale around rather surprising catalysts.
I found this rewriting of D'Vaire history not to be twisted but unpalatable. I hope there are few if anymore written. D'Vaire is not Marvel comics. This multi verse storyline was disappointing.
