Although born in New Orleans, I am proud to call myself an Alaskan. I have lived here for 37 years, I have survived -40 degrees, hauled water, made bear bacon and live in a cabin. I used a fish wheel to catch salmon coming up the Copper River. I was my second husband's chief mechanic's helper and only roadie. I cut firewood on shares, worked as a cocktail waitress, then as a paralegal for over 26 years. I hold the #80 press card as a reporter for the Copper Valley Views newspaper which ceased publication in the 1980s. I've been writing stories since junior high. Retired now, I can devote my time to what I love. I came to Alaska by way of Arizona and California. I experienced the building of the pipeline up close. Then my second husband and I moved to Wasilla to get warm. It hardly ever drops past -25 in South Central Alaska. I never thought I would love it so much I never want to leave. The beauty of Alaska is a draw I cannot resist. I love the people and the history. I have been captured by a place I came to under duress. Life does play some interesting tricks on one. I lost my first husband to alcohol. My second husband, the love of my life died as a result of disease. We were not apart more than 24 hours for 20 plus years . I never wanted to be anywhere but with him. He was a man to run the river with.
Woven with romance, friendship, and religion, Snagged tells the story of James and Dorcas, how they meet and where their chance encounter takes them. Set in the rugged wilderness of Alaska, the author does a fantastic job of describing the setting and the way it affects the characters. The details were beautifully written and I deeply enjoyed the way the author had a focus on the religious beliefs of both characters and used that to make their relationship even stronger.
This story had lovely descriptive elements that brought Alaska to life. The details included about the landscape and way of life were vivid and interesting. However, the over religious nature of the book was too much for my personal tastes. Those who love VERY Christian books, however will love this element. I might lend it to my sister as she really enjoys these spiritual books.
This is the first book in Author, Cherime MacFarland’s, Copper River Romance series and I love it. I was intrigued by this story for a number of reasons. I don’t know much about the state of Alaska but the author’s vivid descriptions of the frigidity of the setting and the associated exiguous life style of young Dorcas were realistic enough for me to curl up with a huge warm comforter!
It was also refreshing to read about a budding romance between two people who despite their strong physical attraction respect each others differing religious outlooks enough to maintain a friendship while sorting through their feelings for each other.
This book is well written and I highly recommend it to readers looking for a good romance.
I was given a gifted copy by Story Cartel in exchange for an honest review. The story is set in Alaska where life is very different and difficult due to the low temperatures registered there. The author shows us how life is there, the things that need to be done and the priorities that everybody should know in order to survive there. The story tells us about Dorcas and James, how they meet and how their relationship changes into love, respecting their different backgrounds and their religious education. A good story, easy to read and enjoyable that I would recommend, especially to those who are believers. It’s a pity that the editing is so poor and that’s the reason I only give it 4 stars.
Snagged by Cherime MacFarlane is an adventurous uplifting book which was a great escape to Alaska from my everyday life in California. This story is an uplift and maybe you could even call it a guilty pleasure.
I found this to be an endearing faith-filled story. It flowed easily, kept me in suspense and made for a good winter read. This intriguing story touched me. An easy story to get into and emotionally attached to.
