A schoolteacher and an avid children's book author, Alicia Ortego, has a wealth of experience spanning over 20 years working with children. Alicia is a mother of two and a firm believer in the power of educating children at home to cultivate their character and create awareness in them from an early age.
Alicia's books about empathy, kindness, and compassion are an embodiment of her vast experience as a teacher and mother, her love for kids, and an overpowering passion for instilling in them a reading culture.
Mia is a nine year old girl at school, who encounters a boy who likes to read! He brings their group of friends to the library to help them discover the treasure of books!
The benefits of reading are explored like using your imagination, less screen time, and learning new things to talk to others about!
I also liked the page that shared about how to care for books, especially library books. I think this is important! Respecting books, so others may enjoy them at the library.
The illustrations are colorful and interesting to look at while reading the story. The story itself is written in an understandable way for young readers. It definitely captures the excitement of reading books!
The author wonderfully captures children's imaginations, illustrating the joy of reading. She conveys strategies for disregarding those who mock readers, suggests forming a reading circle for kids to share their discoveries, and encourages creating a reading chart with faces to reflect their thoughts on books. The story is highly relatable for children and is likely to positively impact its readers. 5 stars!
This book about reading will get kids giggling! When a new boy at school has something magical in his book bag, everyone has silly guesses as to what it is. His fellow students are disappointed to find that it's just books. But they soon learn that books can indeed be magical: "Reading was joy, time just flew by, Stopped only when the moon rise high in the sky." This is an amusing introduction to the fun of reading, with colorful illustrations and playful writing.
I picked this up in order to write an honest review.
I loved that this book showed the magic of reading and discussing what you've read. The wonder of the library and sharing with friends was addressed in this book, also. The illustrations are perfect with the story's message.
