Right from the start, Gravewater Lake had me under its thrall. With a well-plotted amnesia-centered premise that contained not one but two timelines that both kept me riveted to the pages, I thought I knew exactly what was going to happen. Little did I know that the expertly crafted twists would shock me but good. So much so, in fact, that I guarantee that you’ll be just as surprised by the multiple jaw-dropping turns of events. After all, the reveals were so deftly woven into the plot that they not only felt like utter perfection, but they had me rethinking everything I had already read up to that point in the story.

The characters and the setting—which felt like yet another crafty persona—were easily the best piece of the puzzle, however. From a handful of thoroughly suspicious individuals to a woman with no memories at all, I felt myself being pulled into their lives as if I was a fly on the wall. The setting, though, was what won me over hook, line, and sinker. With an unsettling atmosphere, vivid descriptions, and an eerie lake at the center of the action, I was riveted from the very first word. All I can say is that you’re going to want the lights on before you dive into a plot that gave me all of the chills and thrills that I could want in a story.

The only thing that didn’t hit quite right was the conclusion. Decidedly over-the-top as well as not really fitting in with the rest of the novel, it not only came out of left field—it left my expectations demolished into little, itty, bitty pieces. While part of that was definitely right up my alley, the big, giant twist that introduced the new direction somehow left me a little let down. Don’t get me wrong, once I suspended all disbelief and returned to the pages, I ate up every word with a very large grin—even if it was ultimately pretty far-fetched.

All said and done, I now completely understand why my friends and colleagues with Thriller Book Lovers: The Pulse have been raving about this one for ages. A tale of psychological suspense that came complete with flashbacks, cliffhanger chapters, and plenty of lies to uncover, this locked room mystery of sorts kept me guessing for sure. So if you love a creepy, old mansion, unique twists, and a multilayered story, this is most definitely the book for you. After all, it was well-written, immersive, and clever. My one piece of advice? Don’t trust a soul in this unputdownable novel. Rating of 4 stars.

I freaking loved this book!!!!! The pacing is perfection, it starts with a bang and keeps a consistent pace from then onwards. The confusion and chaos is so much fun and the twist!! I did not see that coming 😆😆

This book is awesome I definitely recommend.. especially for those who are fans of Freida McFadden, I can’t pin point what exactly but it has a similar feel and fully satisfied all of my cravings. I’m almost sad to finish the book because now I’ll struggle to find one I enjoy as much 😂

I absolutely love locked room and snow storm tropes so when I read the bio I knew I had to read this book, and it did not disappoint!

A woman wakes up by a lake, freezing cold in the snow, wet for some reason with a head injury. She has no memory and doesn’t know the origin of her injuries. She also doesn’t know where she is and has no way of contacting help, so when she sees a light in the distance she knows she has to get there FAST before she freezes or succumbs to her injuries.

Upon reaching the light she discovers it’s a cabin in the middle of nowhere, the owner Gregg gladly lets her inside and offers his help, from this point on things get WEIRD!

There are lots of twists and turns, the main character is confused, I’m confused, everyone is confused!!!

It is impossible to pin point what’s really happening and who people really are and I loved the journey of discovery. There are tons of twists for your reading satisfaction!

I’d recommend this read for sure :) the perfect book for entering into the colder season..

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and A.M Strong & Sonya Sargent for the EARC!

thank you to netgalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

it isn’t often that i force myself to finish a book and unfortunately this was one of them. i found the idea of the book to be intriguing, a girl wakes up freezing from a snowstorm unaware of who she is or her surroundings and stumbles up to the first house she sees and it goes from there. unfortunately though a lot of the book fell flat to me. while i understand anna had some trauma and memory loss, it seemed she threw all common sense and caution out the window despite being suspicious so often and i found that incredibly frustrating to read over and over again. the ending sort of saved the book but even then it was so rushed it felt like whiplash seeing everything happening. i think i perhaps am just not the targeted market for this as this is a very easy breezy uncomplicated story and i tend to steer away from those.

I have been unlucky this year so far when it comes to books. :/
None of them have been any higher than 3 stars. And this one definitely is not the outlier.

This was one of the MOST repetitive books I have read yet. Every chapter was pretty much the same thing over and over again.
The narration/prose is part of that extreme repetitiveness.

The whole cast of characters were so unlikeable and boring. There really was no character depth or development, and they were just so flat.

The twist was mediocre at best, and really came out of left field. (It COULD MAYBE be a good twist for a longer and more developed book, but not this one.)
I feel like there were just too many red herrings.

After this one, and a couple other books I've read, I now know that I do not like the Amnesia trope at all. It's just always so poorly executed.

For some odd reason, the authors felt the need to add romance to this? I don't want to hear about strangers who only knew each other for a few days having sex, and other romantic actions. It really didn't add anything to the plot, or character development. 😒

I got to read this for free and early because of Amazon Prime First Reads. So yay? I guess? 🧐

I try not to write critical reviews because I am in the process of writing my own first novel, and I know people can be harsh. I even researched if this was written by a debut author and I could give some grace, but that wasn’t the case.

Mostly - Who was the editor? I think the authors may need a new one. I picked so much of this book apart. I almost DNF’ed because of a plethora of reasons. But I held out hoping for a good ending.

That ending came out of left field. There was zero build up for that ending. The main character was just bizarre and lacked common sense/self awareness. Who loses their memory and **SPOILERS** sleeps with the person who took them in, after knowing them for 2-3 days, while having the trauma of not knowing who they are?

This review would be forever long if I picked apart all the pieces that didn’t make sense, so I won’t do that. But this book just isn’t it. It could have been, with a different editor/publisher who guided the changes this book would have benefited from. Maybe dual POV’s from another character, perhaps? It was lacking something, for sure.

This book was atrocious. I hate to DNF a book, so I pushed through, but the prose was horrible, and a perfect example of men who write women poorly.

Chapters with "Anna" alternate with chapters of "Adria" and the setup makes it seem like Anna, who has lost her memory, is Adria, running from a murderous husband. The reality is way more outlandish, and her personal assistant has tried to kill her. "Gregg" really is just a good samaritan who also happens to be a criminal, who's also hiding his criminal cousin. You find out "Adria's" chapters are really just excerpts from the book that "Anna" (really Alex) has been writing.

This book was free and I still have buyer's remorse.

This was such a blast, my first by the author duo but definitely won’t be my last. I’ll leave the synopsis below but I say go in not knowing any more than that and get ready for a wild ride. I thought I had it all figured out and I was dead wrong, lots of great twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved the isolated and creepy atmosphere and thought the authors did a great job at creating such a tense setting. Again, such a fun and surprising one, def recommended.

I didn't know where this story was going because it took alot of turns but I loved the ending.
A woman ends up in the frigid water of an isolated lake. She passes out after making it to shore and wakes up in a mans house and can't remember who she is.
She learns his name is Greg and he tries to help her but tells her she's stuck there. No phone service and the bridge is out because of the snow storm.
Greg calls her Anna because of the A on her expensive bracelet.
Cut to Adria before the accident finding out her husband Peter might not be who he says.
This story gets deeper and deeper and just when you think you've figured it out it takes a sharp turn. Then another.
Really good writing by this new to me author.

This book was SO good and completely addictive!!
I love thrillers with an amnesia trope and this one delivered.

A woman stumbles upon a cabin in the snow, she cannot remember who she is or what happened to her- and possibly has a concussion - but the man at the cabin takes her in. Since it’s a snowstorm, they cannot seek help.

Flashbacks to another woman who has just found out her husband isn’t the man she thought he was- and all the events leading up to her finding out his true identity.

This book is bingeworthy and kept me on the edge of my seat. I could not figure it out but it was all tied together so well in the end. Definitely will be reading their debut novel now!
The narrator was also incredible.

4.5⭐️

Ever since I read 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝐺𝑖𝑟𝑙 𝐿𝑒𝑓𝑡, I knew I’d be reading every book this duo writes. And this book only confirms that I will def be doing just that.

I love a compelling lost memory thriller, and this one this one delivered. It hooks you from the start and leaves you questioning the mystery of what’s really happening here. The intriguing link between the two girls - and the ensuing questions about whether they’re the same person or connected in another way - slowly gnaws at your mind. You’ll be a zombie trying to figure this one out.

With shorter chapters, this is the perfect type of read that I love. It’s engaging in every sense and audio is to die for! The narrator, Amanda Dolan, does a phenomenal job bringing this book to life. She’s the type of narrator that brings a story together in your mind - instead of just talking at you. Couldn’t recommend more.

I enjoyed The Last Girl Left, so I was excited to read this book. Even though I enjoyed most parts of this book, there were some scenes that didn't make any sense. Maybe for some readers, this won't be an issue. Since it is well-written, it will hook you from the beginning...And the twist at the end was so good.

"Anna" wakes on the shore of a remote lake in the middle of the night, freezing and afraid. With no memory of who she is or how she got there, she stumbles frantically toward the lights of a house. The man who lives there is shocked to see a woman on his doorstep and takes her in.

This book got me hooked from the beginning, a unique and interesting story, it intrigued me and kept me guessing until the very end, loved the atmospheric scenery. the mystery and the thrills elements, the first part, and the end of the book, but the middle part didn't make sense to me, I like that the heroine was cautious and her internal thoughts were very relatable regarding her circumstances. but then she throws everything out the window and starts having a "relationship" with a man she doesn't know anything about and acts very suspicious...overall it was a very Good read. WOW! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I cannot recommend this book enough if you like thrillers/suspense. Gravewater Lake has it all! (Released 2.4.25) by A.M. Strong and Sonya Sargent.

‘Anna’ wakes up by the lake, soaking wet, in the snow, with a bad head injury, no memory of where she is, how she got there… or what her name is. She sees lights on at a cabin in the distance and makes her way over to find help. It is bitter cold and she will freeze to death if she doesn’t get somewhere fast. ‘Gregg’ answers the door and welcomes her in. This is the start of all kinds of unexplained things occurring in the cabin and with ‘Gregg’ while ‘Anna’ is desperately trying to remember who she is.

This is a wild ride of non stop suspense from page 1. It reeled me in and had me hooked all the way to the end! So many unseen twists. A must read for any thriller lovers! 📕📚👻

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to get my hands on this early!

It took two writers to produce this awful book

I’ve read many thrillers, but this one takes the cake for a confusing and unbelievable plot. Was it because two writers were involved?

A woman goes to a stranger's house when she is injured and nearly frozen to death, she's also lost her memory. Unfortunately, she's also lost all common sense, and the ability to recognize reg flags. It's extremely hard to root for someone that annoying, especially when their thoughts are so repetitive.

I didn't guess the twist at the end, but it seemed to come out of nowhere, so I don't think anyone could guess it. The last chapter seemed very rom-com-y and out of place with the rest of the book.

This wasn't a new trope; it was the classic found woman lost her memory and is staying with someone claiming to be good. Despite that, it was a good spin on it. I loved the characters and their dynamics. The pace was fast and full of suspense. The mystery was winding and twisty; it kept me guessing as to what these characters would do next.

Gravewater Lake is my second book by this duo. They write bingeable addictive thrillers. I absolutely loved the short chapters, they were so propulsive.

I also love the amnesia trope in thrillers, they naturally make you question everything, but there is no way I could have anticipated the twist in this one. It was so shocking, yet completely believable. The perfect kind of twist.

3/5 stars for the amazing premise but flawed execution.

A woman wakes up wet and freezing next to a lake with no memory of who she is or how her life brought her here. She finds her way to a nearby lake house where she meets a sketchy man named Gregg. Will we be able to discover the truth in this past and present dual pov mystery?

I really did enjoy the beginning of this book, though slow at times it felt very suspenseful and life or death. We were led to believe we knew the characters and their motives and I found myself almost becoming bored because I thought I had everything figured out. The twist came from nowhere and I have a love hate relationship with how it was executed. I loved the surprise and how shocked I was but it was slightly disappointing that it wasn’t hinted at during the rest of the book.

I also found our unreliable main character to be insufferable at times. She chose to make the worst possible decisions even though in her mind she knew it was wrong. She doubted herself every step of the way and I found this very frustrating. There were also a few discrepancies between the middle of the novel and the end.

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer for the arc through NetGalley! All opinions are my own honest opinions.

After being in a reading slump where I felt like I got stuck with a lot of two-star books, I was so glad that I decided to pick this one up! I wasn’t sure what to expect based on the short, relatively vague synopsis, but I was pleased that this ended up being a great read for me.

It will be challenging to give a thorough review without giving too much of the plot away, but I will do my very best.

First off, I just want to say that the name Greg being spelled with two gs (Gregg) drove me bananas. I don’t know why, but it did. It was also never mentioned, even though it's not the common way to spell the name. Not even something as simple as “My name is Gregg with two gs.”. I know it’s so silly and such a trivial thing, but it drove me insane.

“The blank canvas of my past is just waiting to be filled with every paranoid delusion my brain can conjure.”

This story starts with a prologue that pulls you right in. That’s my favorite. You’re tossed into a scene that gives you just enough information to want to continue reading to find out what happens. From the very first page to the very last, I just couldn’t put this book down. I constantly found myself saying, “Just one more chapter,” which quickly turned into ten. I was so upset when I was forced to stop reading because I needed to sleep or go to work. I just had to find out how this one ended as soon as possible. The overall writing is easy to follow while being very engaging at the same time. It flowed nicely and constantly kept you in the moment. That’s always a big plus for me.

I’m usually not a fan of the amnesiac trope. For some reason it’s just never been one that I’ve enjoyed. However, the one in this book is done wonderfully. I really enjoyed this somewhat new take on a memory loss situation. I really liked how we got to piece things together with our main character. Like how after she wakes up from being unconscious on the lakeshore and finds Gregg’s house, she realizes that she’s wearing a bracelet with the initial ‘A’ on it. Using that piece of information, both she and Gregg work to figure out her name, and feeling like none of them seem to fit, they settle on “Anna” (this is not a spoiler since it happens early on in the story). It was nice that even if the character didn’t know who she was, we as the readers had a name to work with. It was seeing how things unfolded right alongside Anna.

There are two alternating timelines in the plot, and they are intertwined so beautifully. They never got choppy and confusing to follow. Both stories just fell so perfectly into place. One picked off where the other left off nicely and vice versa. I really enjoyed getting inside both Adria and Anna’s heads.

“Living in constant fear is exhausting.”

This book is full of twists and turns, and I loved them all. The plot twists always kept me guessing. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I realized I didn’t. The red herrings were so amazingly placed. This book should be one of the prime examples of how plot twists are done! They weren’t just dropped on us. They didn’t just come out of nowhere. We as the readers were never “lied” to; all the details to try and work things out were given to us. I had a few “wow” moments while reading this.

The only reason I rated this a four-star read instead of a five-star one is due to the ending. Despite the big reveal being a good one, the last 15% of the story was a little too far-fetched for my taste.

This is my first book by A.M. Strong, but it definitely won’t be my last.

“A minute later, I’m climbing the stairs into an unknown as dark as the one filling my head.”

TLDR: A GREAT PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER WITH A LOT OF TWISTS AND TURNS! THE AMNESIAC TROPE WAS DONE WELL!

As always, please remember that reading is subjective, and that’s what makes it so great. 😊

I would like to thank Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this book.

This is my voluntary, unbiased, and honest review.

Last year, the team at #ThrillerBookLovers had the opportunity to read "The Last Girl Left," so I was thrilled when we received ARCs of the upcoming release "Gravewater Lake" by Sonya Sargent and A.M. Strong. Some of us were lucky enough to snag a promotional box with a signed book copy! These authors are not only talented but incredibly generous. I wish them great success with this chilling read!

"Gravewater Lake" is a story you'll want to curl up with by a crackling fireplace or enjoy under the warm sun on a sandy beach. It’s as dark and bitterly cold as the mysterious lake it’s named after. The characters are cloaked in deep, haunting secrets, and Gravewater Lake is the perfect place to bury them.

The narrative weaves through alternating timelines, pulling readers into an eerie and captivating mystery. We meet a woman who awakens on the icy edge of a lake, struggling to remember her identity. Not dressed for the biting cold and nursing a bump on her head, suspicion creeps in. Battling the freezing chill, she stumbles upon a solitary house, where a handsome yet mysterious stranger offers her shelter as a fierce storm rages outside.

As the snowstorm intensifies, it becomes clear that they aren’t the only ones trapped—several mysterious neighbors also find themselves stranded, each harboring their secrets. The woman, who temporarily takes the name Anna, navigates unsettling emotions and strange occurrences within the house. With each passing moment, she can’t shake the nagging feeling that her presence in this desolate place is anything but accidental.

The twists and turns in this riveting tale kept me teetering on the edge of my seat! When I thought I had it figured out, the author delivered a shocking conclusion that left me satisfied and slightly unsettled. If you love a good mystery with layers of intrigue, "Gravewater Lake" is a must-read that will not disappoint!

WHY DID THIS HAVE SUCH A CUTE ENDING?! Murder happened... when murder happens, there shouldn't be a cute ending but you know what? I kind of dig it. Now I'm mad we don't get to find out if anything more happens. Honestly, though, that ending saved the book for me. I was thinking it was just going to be a husband/wife domestic thriller, but the twist at the end threw me entirely off. What do they say about assuming? It makes an ass out of you and me. Welp, I'm a whole ass over here.

I thought I knew where this book was going. It read somewhat like your standard locked-room thriller - trapped in a mansion during a snowstorm with no access to the outside world, a woman with no memory and a good looking gentleman who may be keeping secrets. But boy, did Strong and Sargent throw my theories right out the window!

I listened to Gravewater Lake on audio and really enjoyed it. The narrator has a good voice and though mechanical at first, did improve throughout the novel. The pacing was great and the cliffhangers at the end of most chapters kept me wanting more.

I enjoyed the flashbacks and trying to piece together how Audria fit with Anna and how Greg fit with Peter, if they fit at all! There were a lot of questions and I couldn't tell if Anna was being gaslighted, imagining things, or straight up losing her mind.

It was fun to come up with theories with friends at The Pulse, and even more fun when we realized how wrong we were. There is no guessing that end!

The novel revolves around a woman who wakes up with no memory by a lake and seeks shelter from a mysterious man named Gregg. As she tries to piece together her past, she begins to suspect that something is not right with both the man and the house they are in.

This book is a thrilling rollercoaster ride filled with unexpected twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is a must-read for fans of Freida McFadden, especially if you enjoy fast-paced and unpredictable events. The main character's memory loss adds an intriguing element to the story, making everyone who shows up after seeming suspicious. I found myself constantly guessing and second-guessing, always a step behind the surprising outcomes and true identities of the characters.

The intricate plot and constant guessing game make this book impossible to put down. If you enjoy a secluded thriller with unexpected twists and turns, this book is perfect for you. It is a binge-worthy read that will leave you craving more. The story delves into themes of deception, mystery, and the danger of uncovering the truth.

I had the privilege of listening to the audiobook. The narrator's performance was a perfect fit, creating a suspenseful atmosphere that made it hard to pause. I was so engrossed in the story that I had to cancel my plans to finish the book in one day. I highly recommend this book or if you prefer an audiobook!
