Kissed by Moonlight

Rate this book
Phaedra Conners has been in short supply of normal ever since she shoved a car full of explosives off of a parking garage. Domestic terrorism would be an unappreciated skill set on any resume, so she’s a little surprised when she gets hired on as the personal secretary of multi-millionaire, Gabriel Evans.

Her new boss isn’t your average CEO, and when he finds himself falling for his assistant he knows that he’ll have to let her go. Especially if he wants her to survive the week. However, denying himself turns out to be much harder than he thought it would be.

Phaedra has spent most of her life digging up secrets.

But not every door needs to be opened and some skeletons like to howl at the moon.

When I read this book there wasn't a uk review but the 5 US reviews were all 5 star so I figured it must be good, right. It started ok, funny in places and to be honest it looked like a good book but then I just didn't get it, the story, as such seemed too long and dragged out, it didn't flow or even really make much sense, it lost my interest fairly early on I even had a couple of breaks, I kept coming back purely because I figured I must have been missing something but in all honesty I just didn't care anymore reading this book had become a real chore and I just wanted to get to the end. After reaching 70% I just didn't want to read anymore since it really wasn't working for me.

"I was going to push this bitch of a car (because, according to my last boyfriend, cars were females and with its sleek black leather interior this particular vehicle just screamed “vagina”) off the parking garage roof.
What about the innocent people below? you may ask. You could kill pedestrians! Fuck the pedestrians.
The pedestrians wouldn’t cover the cost of my insurance if my car got scratched or stolen simply because I’d relegated it to a poor man’s parking space. So I pushed and I shoved and my feet (one still in its pump and the other scrambling along the ground encased in my pantyhose) dug into the hot pavement and gave me the leverage I needed to put the guilty car in question where I wanted it."

First few pages i was like description

Normally, they would put Phaedra in an institution to get her head examined or locked up for the safety of mankind. Phaedra Conners was not normal. Her tone of voice was Psychotic to begin with.

Then comes Gabriel.

"It was that urge to touch him, the urge to draw closer, that finally snapped me back. This man, despite his good looks and apparent good breeding, had attacked someone to the point where they were nothing more than a still body in the middle of the room. The way the blood coated his mouth made me think he’d bitten the man, but that couldn’t have possibly been the case. What sort of person goes around biting people unless they’re high off of bath salts…?"

for the first meeting, this one crossed so many levels of weird..

description

I have read books where the hero is first seen killing someone but this guy takes it to a whole new level..i get that he is a wolf but seriously why the drama..

Overall -

description

Plot: confusing
characters: read above and decide for yourself

so many 4 -5 star review but unfortunately this book didn't click for me ..

*Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock*

This is the first book I have read by this author so I did not know exactly what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised.
The story starts with our Herione, Phaedra Conners, a reporter, who unwittingly manages to foil a terrorist plot. From this she is pulled into the world of the mysterious Gabriel Evans, a billionaire with a shady story that the reporter in Phaedra can't resist. She is not expecting to find out what she does, however, or the danger that it introduces her to.
I enjoyed the plot. I thought it was original and well developed. I like when an author puts a new twist on an old idea and we have that here.
I do have a couple of niggles though, which is why I haven't given it the full rating. It took a little while to get going and the first few chapters had me unsure of which direction the story was going. I am glad I persevered as after this the story flowed fairly well.
I had a little difficulty connecting with the characters at times. We hear Phaedra's thoughts but not always the motives and reasons behind those thoughts. So even though she was quite a feisty character she seemed a little two-dimensional at times. Gabriel I did not quite know what to make of either for similar reasons. His actions were not always explained enough to understand his reasons. I am hoping this will be developed more in the further stories in the series. I didn't dislike the characters but felt they needed a little more fleshing out to help me really care for them.
All in all it was a good start to a series of books with a good plot, I understand it's a trilogy. It didn't end with one of those awful cliffhangers that make you want to scream in frustration but it left me with enough of a hook that I want to read the next part.
I give this a 4 fang rating. Overall it was enjoyable and I would recommend :)

This is the first book in an interesting series about weres and other supernatural creatures.
It's about a troublemaker reporter, Phaedra, that ends up investigating a mysterious CEO, Gabriel Evans. She ends up finding out that he's the Alpha of a werewolf pack and because of her, the weres are discovered by the general public. Gabriel is captured and tortured by the FBI with the help of a shadowy group, the Huntsmen, and in the process of liberating him she finds that there are worse things than weres in the world.
It's a pretty complicated story that involves the Fae, Specters, traitorous wolves and sadistic authorities.

I loved the first half of the book - Phaedra's personality is great, but after she finds out about the weres things went downhill.
My main problem was the lack of sex/sexual tension - she ends up mated to Gabriel without sleeping with him and that just sucked. The other issue I had was that the action took precedence over the romance in the second part and it lowered the enjoyment of the story.
That isn't to say I don't like a long courtship - the Kate Daniels series is my favourite ever and the main characters end up having sex in the fourth book - but the sexual tension in this one is totally absent for the second half of the book. They just settled in a family and they are waiting for the other show to drop...
Still, the story has potential and I hope it will pick up in the next installment.

I have to admit that the name and the cover of this book intrigued me. I've read a few books/series Fae related and I have to say this one is the worse.

There are a few reasons:

1. First time Phaedra meets Gabriel, he fights and bites a man, and she doesn't even blink about it. Who does that? She just sits there and starts talking to him like nothing happened. The man she met just seconds ago and the one who has his hands full of blood. Literally. That brings me to the point nomber two...
2. He doesn't even think that he might look strange or insane. He meets a woman and is ready to confide his life in her. Why?
3. Why was the whole story so badly explaned? I still don't understand some information the author was trying to give us about Gabriel's kind.
4. So one day he's just a handsome guy she knows, and a few weeks later she wants to devour him with lust. Some emotion or reasons would be very welcome here... And then they become mates?

What I'm trying to say is that the story looks like a list of things that happen (they meet, she finds out the truth, they get attacked...) but there's nothing behind it.The space in between is empty and you can see a great lack of emotion and reason behind the desisions they make or even their behaviour. For the book to be characterized as romance, there should be at least some emotion.

As for Phaedra and Gabriel, I can't like them either, and for the same reason:I don't know them. The lack of intrinsic world is obvious.I just don't know why they do whatever it is they do, what makes them who they are (is it love, boredom, sense of duty...?), and I can't forgive that. There are a few scenes where you can see that she could be a funny heroine with potential for more, but those moments die a few lines ahead.

I just think that what's inside matters the most and without it this is just a plane and superficial story.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I kinda have girl crush on Phaedra, she is just such a smartass! I love it . I think kissed by moonlight was a very good start to a new series, it kept me figuratively and sometimes literally "holding my breath waiting for what would happen next". I thought the plot and werewolves, wildhunt , ect were very fresh and new ,different. The action was great , the suspense awesome , the romance.... fell alittle flat for me :( don't get me wrong they had some seriously hot scenes and I am really glad Phaedra and Gabriel didn't jump each other's bones when they first met , it wasn't the sex or lack there off. It was their relationship . I am hoping to see more relationship/romance building in the next book . Overall the book was very enjoyable and I am excited to see what's next.
(Favorite quotes/parts of the book below)
“Gabriel,” he breathed, face rubbing against my own as if memorizing my features by touch alone. “My name is Gabriel.” His voice deepened and my thighs clenched, inner muscles clutching at nothing as that smooth baritone seemed to f*ck every vowel and consonant that it uttered. “It’s the only name I ever want to hear come out of your mouth. Say it.”

“Gabriel.” His hips pressed forward, and my head fell back of its own accord as his erection pressed against something small and sweet.

“Breathe it.”

“Gabriel.” It escaped on a sigh as his teeth nipped my earlobe.

“Moan it for me.”

I obliged; I couldn’t help it. It was only when he growled against the side of my neck in pleasure that some semblance of common sense tried to return."

There were a couple things I loved about this book: the premise and the main character.

The premise was promising. I'm a shifter fan, so I liked the concept of there being weres and hounds.

Phaedra was awesome. I loved her wit and humor. I laughed out loud several times...especially during her covert operations. I think I'll start humming the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE theme song when I'm being sneaky. Also, I thought it was hilarious when she pulled her inner Sean Connery to the surface. Seriously, this character was fantastic. If I was rating purely on her, this book would get 5 stars.

Unfortunately, I had to give 3 stars.

First, I would have loved it if we had Gabriel's p.o.v. in parts. Some people don't love the p.o.v. to switch, but I would have loved it. The whole time I was reading, I felt a void because I had no clue what was going on inside of Gabriel. He was such an intricate part of the story, but didn't get much spotlight.

Second, the author would give us a little heat in the love department, but then it fizzled out before it even got started. It was like having cold water thrown on you. The scene would start off great...heavy kissing, rubbing, emotion, etc. And then, nothing! It would just stop. There just needed to be better flow in the romantic parts. The flow from hot and heavy to reality just needs better transition.

More Paranormal than Romance, although there is a touch of it. This is a great story and a really different take on werewolf legend. I would've loved more romance, but the lack of it most certainly Did Not mess the story up in Any way! Actually, this book is quite different from any other Were book I have Ever read. This is a good thing, my fellow readers! It also entails some good humor, which I always welcome and adore. AND...I want to know what happens next in the series, therefore, I WILL BE reading the next book (probability is high that I'll read All the books in this series)!

I don't like the heroine, but ...

The heroine isn't a nice person. The hero is better, but not as well developed. Very unusual story that keeps rolling. No real steam, although there's some sexual tension in the first half of the book. No worries if you're a reader who doesn't go for sex scenes.

Looooooved it. Sometimes it felt a little disjointed but in all honesty it didn't detract from the story at all. Strange but true. True enough that I just purchased the trilogy!

It had potential but the story telling assumed the reader would just accept what was presented without question. There were major credibilty gaps in what the characters said and did and fhe motovations were murky and unconvincing.

When I started in this book I was not that excited about it. It was probably going to be just another one of those werewolf romance books, which in a way this was. But I actually liked the twists in this story. I don't want to spoil too much but I really liked the story behind the origins of werewolves.

So I ‘bought’ this book because the cover was nice and the synopsis intrigued me. I guess I never learned that pretty packages do not always have the best contents.

I decided to go on and finish the book because I was hoping that it would actually get better. If I’m honest, I skimmed quite a bit of it, looking for something that could keep me interested. I did like some of the verbal sparring that was done.
I didn’t care for Phaedra- ‘Psycho Phaedra’ would probably be a better moniker than ‘Fiery Phaedra.’ I mean seriously- Phaedra busts a car window with a pump and pushed it off a parking garage?? She was just plain nuts.
Gabriel’s character interested me, but I still don’t understand why or how. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I didn’t completely understand his background - could be that I was bored and was skimming through.

Anyways, I can’t say that I will recommend this book to anyone. I still am unsure what genre this was supposed to be. I’d have labeled it PNR by the cover, but I’d say it was pretty much paranormal unromance. It was way too fluffy to be considered urban fantasy. So what does that lead me with? Some weird paranormal story?
If this was supposed to be a comedic paranormal romance (such as books by Lynsay Sands, Kerrilyn Sparks, and Katie MacAllister), it fell very short in the romance department.

Would I read the next book in the series? Possibly, but only if it were free and I had nothing else to read. I could potentially read it just because I’m being overly optimistic in thinking that the author could pull it together? In the past, I’ve read multiple books because I continue to give authors a chance. Perhaps I should do that with this author. Anyways, I really do not know if I will read the next book. Or even read this author again.

This is the first book i have read by this author and i am so so glad that i picked this book up.

I loved this book and Adrianne Brooks is one seriously talented writer, if you are a fan of paranormal fiction then this is definately a book for you, even if this isnt your normal genre i can guaruntee you will love it as much as i have.

This book was so unique in its ideas, yes there are werewolves (which we all love) but there is way more to it than that in a way i have never seen written. And gabriels role in it all ........you just want to know more and more. There is so much action and suspence in this book, you seriously cant put it down and how it ends....well it just makes you crave for even more of the story, wanting you to know about the past but also the coming, dangerous future.

What more can you want when you have a seriously strong alpha male, a woman with a deep inner stength craving to belong, werewolves battling against a secret goverment sector? Need i say more ? Get this book now!!!

I seriously cant rave enough about this book, i know need to get tthe rest of this authors book based on reading this one

Where was the romance?

While this definitely qualified as paranormal, there was little to no romance, unless you consider asking someone (in the middle of an attack, no less) to be your "mate" as a technicality as romance, and some scenes where he seems innately drawn to her, but they're not very well executed.

A reporter experiences road rage when she finds a weird van parked in her spot at the office parking garage and in that rage pushes the van off the garage, where it explodes because it was a terrorist plot to attack a very wealthy man who runs the city (Gabriel).

She's eventually fired from her job because there are a number of people who believe she was part of the terrorist plot. She goes to work for a competing newspaper where she agrees to go undercover to learn more about the reclusive Gabriel.... and his secrets.

There was a lot going on and a lot of backstory to have to slog through, but then there's still no romance.

This booked caused me to completely loose track of time and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
You know its going to be interesting when the lead character gets so mad when a car is parked in her parking spot that she smashed the drivers window, puts it in neutral and pushes the car off the top of the car parking building. Thats Fiery Phaedra for you. Shes snarky, sassy and highly amusing.

Of course after that things change dramatically for her. For some reason she looses her job and it seems nobody wants to hire her. She finally manages to find a job at a tabloid newspaper. Its not so long before they get her to go undercover to discover the secrets of the most elusive yet influencial man in town. Gabriel Evans. Phaedra discovers that she may have bit off more than she can chew.

I like the characters, Phaedra's sass and Gabriel's sweetness. This is a completely different take on wereworlves and hell hounds. With the Fae mixed in too. I really can't wait to start reading book 2.

This novel was offered free on Amazon so I thought I'd give it a chance. It started out well. It began with a heroine with serious anger management issues. I wish the author had focused more on that angle. Phaedra was one of the most interesting heroines I've ever encountered in this genre. Unfortunately, Phaedra's story quickly became Gabriel's story, and he really wasn't as interesting. Once Gabriel entered the scene, the book seemed to devolve into a confusing mix of were/fae/FBI plot lines which were not fully developed.

Additionally, this book is marketed as if it's a romance, but there was very little of it in the story. Although there was chemistry between the leads, there were many missed opportunities to develop it. I understand that this is a series. Perhaps the romance develops in later installments, but I think a little more romantic tension in this first book would have created a greater desire to move on to the second.

While I liked the story, I'm not sure how to feel about the alpha wolf/Hellhound Gabriel. He isn't exactly alpha-like, but he has this crazy, slightly unhinged vibe that makes it work. For all that he wasn't a typical werewolf novel alpha, he was sweet in a cute puppy way. I could see how raw power gave him alpha status even without the man's-man alpha macho thing that many novel alpha's use to hold their claim. Phaedra was, oddly enough, perfect for him. Slightly unbalanced herself, she evens him out a bit. The craziness of the main characters was nothing to the insanity of the story. Phaedra stumbles upon modern day nightmares, including human hunting werewolves. By a twist of events, the wolves get exposed to the humans, and a whole slew of issues crops up with Gabriel and Phaedra in the thick of it. This was a quirky werewolf romance, but I found myself liking it.

Gabriel that boy sure is protective, "someone shot up my apartment." He made a dangerous, unhappy sound in the back of his throat and I tried to appear very small in my seat. "I'm not taking you home," he snapped. His tone was bossy enough that it raised my own hackles." Gabriel he's just too cute at times, "I could hear the shrug in his voice. "You know. Whatever it is that women use to survive from day to day. Girl things." He's also very animalistic at times which I freakin' loved, "calm down," he laughed, reaching down to grab me by the shirt collar and pulling me to my feet. "I'll fix it." Shoving me against the wall, he stepped into me and lowered his head, voice rumbling like thunder. "Make it all better." Nose brushing against my neck." I didn't really like the story but I loved the characters so for me this was an alright read.

I quite liked Phaedra and her anger management issues and Gabriel was fine too. What was missing was any real sense of connection. I mean it started well with Phaedra & Gabriel being thrown together through her job ( & snooping) and the mutual attraction but then suddenly they are mated with no real progression in the relationship ( either physical or emotional). It seemed to come out of no-where and was never even really discussed. The action kind of overtook things without every really going back to the relationship (other than to actually have them be mated - which consists of G offering and P accepting. Literally that was it. A 2 sentence conversation). Don't get me wrong the action was good, just should have been balanced better with relationship stuff.

I thought this was a pretty decent story line, but not a romance. I actually felt very little romantic connection between the H and h. The author seems very creative with lots of world building, and it ended with a lead in to more books for the series. I found it slightly confusing in parts. I really loved the way the heroine was written, with her funny personality and quick comebacks. The hero was an alpha, but not a possessive possessive-alpha type. Secondary characters were enjoyable. I really liked the author's writing style, and may try something else by her.

Adrianne Brooks is a very talented writer. she made me fall in love with the characters and the visual is great. I couldn't stop laughing from the first page because the heroine is so funny. this book was interesting to say the least. you really didn't understand at some points what the check was going on. and the name of some things were just to out there to go with. I may be new to the paranormal side of romance novels but even I couldn't keep up sometimes. and maybe it was the editing but when she just starts talking as a third person. I really hate that.

I don't like to write bad reviews, but I really not understanding all the good reviews for this book. when there are really so many great ones out there.

This book was a little weird. It was taking some old myths and stringing them up with other myths. I liked the originality, but not sure if the concept succeeded. I did love how this book had me cracking up at the end, but not sure if I liked the constant result being told before the details and story developed. It did get a little annoying. But the little girl is adorable and I can't wait to see how her develompet will happen.

Also Why the Hell haven't we had a major frisk and/or sex scene? I feel they should be living together since they have sealed there fates.

Ok, this book confused me and I don't like being confused. We have a snarky, sarcastic, borderline-psychotic heroine, a hero who alternated between the hound of hell (literary) and a playful poochy who would pee on your leg to mark his territiry, mythology infodump that left me reeling and buffled, no romance but an interesting storyline. So in effort to figure things out, I'll give this series another go just in hope to see Phedra's reaction if Gabriel gets fleas or something else that might set her off.

I cannot help myself...I adore Phaedra. She is such an unlikely urban fantasy heroine. She has anger management and impulse control issues, horrible eating habits, and truly hysterical friends. And she gets into so much trouble by accident. The bad guys are very scary, and the world sucked me in and made me care. The Wild Hunt trilogy is very dark and quite gruesome in spots with a light touch of romance, and I loved it.

Okay I will admit the main reason I am reading this is to find out why she pushed a car full of explosives off a parking garage. That got my attention. Reading some of the reviews I know going into this the heroine might just be a big pain in the ass. We'll see...

I was bored most of this time. I can't get into this at all. The heroine made me want to scream from page 1. This was a disappointment for me
