This is the only modern translation of the complete collection of deuterocanonical books known popularly as “The Apocrypha,” but now further expanded from the 76 unabridged works in the 2022 edition (formerly arranged as 54 books), to encompass a staggering collection of 100 complete books of apocrypha, 44 works of ancient Judeo-Christian history, and well over 3,000 additional books via the included Digital Library. The Literal Standard Version (LSV) is a modern translation that stays true to the original manuscripts. Published by Covenant Press, the publishing arm of the Covenant Christian Coalition.
Reading this book gives insight into the thoughts and prejudices of the ancient Jews and early Christians. There is no new revelation. The Bible says all that God wants to say. But reading this literature, we see how human philosophy corrupts our understanding of scripture; we see how "going beyond what is written" leads to fanciful thinking and great errors.
I can understand why the Protestants rejected these books as canonical. They are interesting, but don't carry the ring of truth as the books that universally accepted. The exception is 1 and 2 Maccabees. These books provide a good history of the intertestamental period.
This is a massive book with a ton of early church history. I simply wanted to read the orthodox apocrypha, which was a small section of this book and have now completed. I'll pick it back up again to continue reading other church historical books, but time for it to go on the shelf for a while.
