The Charity In Love is a steamy "single dad" romance and Book 5 in the Pilsen series. Each story in this charming small-town series stands alone but is wonderfully intertwined. Make sure you check trigger warnings before reading.

Ever wondered what happens when two cynics who are great at giving love finally decide they’re ready to receive it?

Enter The Charity In Love by Everalda Ocampo, a delightful romance that brings together a selfless caregiver and a retired soap opera star in a tale that’s as heartwarming as it is steamy.

I absolutely loved this! Everalda never disappoints me with her stories. Just fun reads.

After a decade of putting her family’s needs before her own, Sophia is burnt out and disillusioned. She’s convinced that happy endings are a myth, at least for her. In a moment of impulsivity, she bids on a “mystery date” package at a charity auction, hoping for a carefree night.

Once the heartthrob of every American housewife, Leo is now a devoted single dad to ten-year-old twins. Jaded by the dating scene and frustrated by his agent’s meddling, he’s initially annoyed to discover he’s the prize in Sophia’s mystery date package.

When Sophia and Leo meet, sparks fly, and both their worlds are turned upside down. Sophia’s authenticity and strength awaken something in Leo that he thought was long gone. But she’s determined to keep things casual, and neither of them believes in fairy tale endings. Leo, however, is ready to become the hero he once played on screen and prove to Sophia that their happily ever after is worth fighting for.

What to Expect:
* Single Dad Vibes: Leo’s devotion to his twins adds a layer of sweetness to this steamy romance.
* Strong, Relatable Heroine: Sophia’s journey from selflessness to self-discovery is both inspiring and heart-wrenching.
* Unexpected Connections: A charity auction date turns into a life-changing encounter.
* Heartfelt Moments: Genuine emotions and personal growth are at the core of this love story.
* Happily Ever After: Because in the end, who doesn’t love a fairy tale ending?

Ocampo’s writing is a perfect blend of warmth, wit, and passion. If you love a story about second chances and finding love when you least expect it, this book is for you.

Sophia and Leo’s journey is a beautiful story of the power of love and the magic of believing in happily ever afters. A true telenovela, just a shorter version. Highly recommend! And I will be keeping my eye out for any future releases by this author.

This is a solid 4.5✨ for me.

The MC’s were so cute together and I had to keep reminding myself it was a book and they couldn’t hear me 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sophia has always been a caretaker from taking care of her brother to her niece and now to Leo and his little family. It was a little bit of a slow burn at first but once it picked up it PICKS UP. I found myself giggling and gasping at different parts in the book.

I also definitely melted at the nicknames he calls her and how respectful (but also possessive) he is of her. I need a story centered around Cass now too because she is one of my favorite side characters.

Honestly between the storyline, the chemistry and the tiny bit of drama it had me hooked! Cant wait to see what comes next for all the characters (please don’t let this be the end of Sophia and Leo!! I need to know what happens to them next!!) 👀

I really enjoyed this. I loved that the MCs were both older and more mature. I also liked how their relationship developed. It felt like they were genuinely getting to know each other, and the romance wasn’t completely rooted in lust. What I liked most about this book though is that it felt like a book about life featuring romance. Of course, that wasn’t what I was expecting when I went into it; I thought it would be a simple romcom. But there was so much more than just romance. It was about life and healing, which I loved so much. And while the story was primarily about Sophia and Leo, I loved the side characters, especially Cass. (Will Cass get her story in the future? 👀) All the different relationships between the characters were very wholesome. Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It was short, yet thorough. Everything was wrapped up really nicely.

On a side note, I was slightly taken aback when my hometown was briefly mentioned. And the fact that Leo watched a play of A Christmas Carol in 7th grade in school and so did I. AND one of my favorite quotes “The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again” by Charles Dickens was mentioned. Very random, but fun similarities 😆

✨Arc Review✨ 🥰Leo and Sophia 🥰
The way they met. The way they connected. They way they realized they had known each other as teens. The way the “connected”🫣 The way they helped each other. The way they healed each other. The way they loved each other. I loved it all.
Sophia deserved so much and I was so happy to see her dreams come true. Leo is just perfect “anything for you princess” 😍 Such a good guy & a great Dad!
Theyre perfect for each other.
I also thoroughly enjoyed the Holiday vibes! I love Christmas so I 💖 that it very much feels like a Hallmark Christmas movie!
I enjoy your writing so much. I think interconnected yet stand alone series, like your Pilsen series, are my new favorite books to read. It’s so much fun to meet the characters in other books then wait for their story. Then find out how the other couples are doing from your previous books. As per usual, stellar playlist selections🙌🏽.

Sophia Santana has spent the last ten years taking care of her family, completely forgetting about herself in the process. Feeling burnt out and disappointed with life, she decides to take a chance on a “mystery date” at a charity auction, just looking for a little fun. Enter Leo Barnes, a retired soap star and single dad of twins who didn’t even know he was signed up for this date. He’s been through his fair share of romantic letdowns, but when he meets Sophia, everything changes. Her realness shakes him, and despite their shared skepticism about love, Leo is determined to show her that happy endings aren’t just for soap operas.

This book was such a sweet and heartwarming read. Sophia’s struggle to put herself first and Leo’s determination to fight for a connection felt really authentic. Their chemistry was instant but grew into something deeper, and Leo trying to be the romantic hero he once acted on screen was such a cute and endearing touch! If you’re into slow-burn romance with a strong emotional connection, this book is definitely for you.

This was a feel good single dad romance. Sophia wins a trip to LA and time to spend with the man she’s had a crush on since she was a kid. She grew up watching him grown up on TV. This was so swoon worthy and made my heart happy!! If you want a quick read that will leave you feeling love drunk on the two main characters this is a book for you!!

I loved reading this book so much. Such a cute story and such a beautiful plot line. I am well versed in the different Chicago communities, so finding out that it takes place in the Pilsen Community grabbed my attention immediately. I love stories that take place in small towns that are hidden gems.

This story was very heartfelt. I found myself loving the characters immediately as they we being introduced. Sophia is a very relatable person. We've all got that celebrity crush that changed our lives. I really understood her and her different struggles in life. Having to be the rock of a family for many years can be tiring and I could feel that she wanted a change. For Leo, I felt the exact same. He just wanted to be loved and I was glad that he was written in a way where we see him grow.

I loved that these characters were older in age. They were in the late 30s and 40s which isn't common in a lot of romance novels. So I really appreciated the age choice. It showed that while they were somewhat established adults, they still had life to figure out and they would do it together.

The writing was really good in my opinion. I felt like it was sincere, filled with care, and very real. There was a lot of heart put into this book. I Loved how medium paced it was, and I loved that it was an instant attraction. I loved that the characters learned to communicated with each other and cut out all the constantly miscommunication. This book just felt very mature! Which I loved!!!!!

I would absolutely read this again. I know it may not be everyone's type of book but I think it's a beautiful story overall which is why you should give it chance anyway! Thank you Everalda for the ARC! I really enjoyed it !

• This book! Made me feel all the feelings. I smirked a bunch, giggled, cried, swooned. I was heavily invested, and ate it up.

• Sophia, this woman 👏 her younger years a mixture of literally caring for others and putting her own life and wants to the side. Then she finally does something purely for her and her future, and I was proud. She’s so sweet but so strong. I seriously adore her.

• Leo 🥰 The single dad to fraternal twin girls. The Soap Opera Actor. The total swoon of a man. He’s considerate and caring. But also has a past of his younger years that isn’t something to brag about.

• I don’t want to tell you too much about their story but, just know. It’s a ride. And watching it unfold made my heart seriously burst. Their story is beautiful and the way she wrote it, you can feel their emotions. Truly, so good.

• Absolutely recommend this one!

This is a sweet little book about two people who have a void only the other can fill. I enjoyed this adorable book with even adorabler characters. Leo's love for his kids was everything and Sophia's support was unmatched. The connection between the characters was definitely there, but I did feel like they were missing some banter and "wow" factor, other than that, I really loved them together. My only other issue is that it's 3rd person, which is 100% personal preference and nothing against the book. It still read smoothly and was an easy read nonetheless.

This is the first novel by Everalda Ocampo that I read. Apparently this is book 5 but each book can be read as a stand alone. I love Ocampo’s Instagram vibes she gives off and was super excited to be able to read her work of art. I absolutely loved the story of Sophia and Leo. This is a mature kind of romance involving a single dad and a woman who doesn’t have high hopes for love anymore until by chance they’re put together and go out on a date through a charity auction. I love their self healing and journey. This novel is very hallmarky and ends in the most beautiful happily ever after. I highly recommend adding to your tbr.

I really enjoyed this book! The main character's journey to come together was beautiful! They are older characters and with it brought a level of maturity it felt like they were really taking the time to get to know each other instead of just lust! The writing is beautiful! It's a story of love and truly believing in happily ever after! This is the 5th book in the Pilsen series and each book can be read as a standalone but each book does a small connections so ill leave that yp up to you! Thank you Everalda Ocampo for sharing this book with me!

I really liked this book. Sophia has been a caretaker most of her life and she is confused about who she is and feels overwhelmed. She wins a trip and gets to spend time with Leo. Leo was her crush and a soap opera star. He's someone she feels like she knows because she used to see him on the screen every day. This is a slow burn but in the best way. I loved the way the conversations between Leo and Sophia made when they came together earned. I don't want to spoil more but it's a story that made me smile.

Love in charity is a refreshing romance book that follows to main characters Sophia and Leo along the way we get a look into these characters and what shaped them the depth of detail to the background story of each character is absolutely amazing. You can relate so easily with each character and feel the emotion the Kleenex box cam out a lot and it was a beautiful ending I hope that at some point their is a follow up book to their beautiful love story.

This read gave me all the feels. I love the fact that the characters were a bit older in age. The storyline is different than your normal romance. The them is definitely family, grief, and taking risks in trying something new. The familiarality between the characters makes the entire story so intimate and sweet, and the heat and the passion is muy caliente!!! It's definitely a book I'm going to read more than once!

"The Charity of Love" by Everalda Ocampo is one of the most consistently engaging books I have ever read. The slow-burn romance between Sophia and Leo was particularly endearing. I found Sophia’s character relatable, as she embodied qualities that resonated deeply with me. Additionally, I appreciated how Everalda Ocampo proudly showcased her heritage through Sophia’s character, adding depth and authenticity to the narrative.

Leo’s daughters were another highlight, their characters felt authentic and added a nice layer to the plot. What made Sophia and Leo’s story stand out was their maturity, they communicated openly and worked through their issues without resorting to the typical third-act breakup. Overall, this book was incredibly cute and has quickly become one of my new favorites for a comfort read.

"She was his, just as much as he was hers." The Charity in Love

Everalda Ocampo’s "The Charity in Love" is a delightful romp through the intertwining worlds of love and altruism. Imagine a place where heartfelt generosity meets the chaos of everyday life—think of it as a rom-com for your soul, sprinkled with just the right number of whispers and secrets moments.

The story follows Sophia, a spirited young woman with a passion for helping others. She’s on a mission to change her life, one thrifty item at a time. When she sees that her favorite Soap Opera star was being auctioned as part of a charity event who wouldn't bid to have a date with their all-time celebrity crush, Leo, sparks fly—and not just the romantic kind which catches them both off guard plus, what would his daughters think, was she really "off-limits", not to him. Their witty banter and undeniable chemistry set the stage for a heartwarming tale filled with laughter, tears, and raw chemistry that will have you giggling along to Leo's words.

Ocampo masterfully weaves humor into the fabric of this feel-good narrative, making you chuckle at the absurdities of life while also nudging you to think about the real impact of kindness. The characters are wonderfully relatable; you’ll find yourself nodding along in agreement when Sophia is contently torn between family and doing what she wants to do for herself, and both character's go through different sets of traumas that brings them together in the same way, and that almost made me cry.

What truly shines in this book is its underlying message: love and generosity can change the world, even if it starts with a simple cup of coffee or a shared laugh. Ocampo’s prose dances with joy, leaving you with that warm, fuzzy feeling long after you’ve turned the last page.

In summary, The Charity in Love is a heartwarming read that’s perfect for anyone in need of a smile and a reminder of the power of love—plus, you might just find yourself inspired to watch your all-time celebrity crush (who wouldn't want to!). Grab a comfy chair and prepare to laugh, cry, and maybe even fall in love as you dive into this delightful tale. I’d give it 4.5 stars for its charm, wit, and feel-good vibes!

I was honored to receive an ARC from this wonderful author. I would like to say that even though I rated this book as I did, I shouldn’t stop you from reading it! This is purely my opinion.

We start off this book very quickly. Honestly, VERY insta love. I had trouble comprehending how they were in love by the end of the week. I am used to slow burn and all of that and honestly, I didn’t get any of it from here. I sensed absolutely no chemistry between them because we immediately started off this book with what should’ve been at the minimum seven chapters in.

The characters themselves were not bad, but I think that there could have been more depth added into the story. By no means am I saying that the book was bad I am just saying that it was very quick for me. if you like the type of book where you don’t have to worry about a sad ending , chemistry, and want to get straight to the love, this is your book.

By far one of the best books I’ve personally read this year, it definitely made my top 5 of all the reads so far. Everalda did it again with greatness.

From steamy to heartwarming this book is number 5 within the series and overall it’s fun, and vibrant to read.

For once Sophia takes a chance at doing something for herself instead of having everyone else’s needs in front of her own. Burnt out it’s a change she sorely requires and has needed for a long time coming. Enter Leo a grumpy annoyed single father finding out he was a prize in a Sophia’s mystery date.

Worlds are thrown into upside chaos as the sparks fly and there’s no denying the flame that lingers between them ready to ignite into a world of flaming passion.

Both jaded by the past Leo is ready to show Sophia happily ever after do exist beyond the myths she believes it is.

Will they find their happily ever after?

this would have been 5 stars if the ending gave me a little more. overall, the book was really good and it kept me interested the whole way through. i love the 3rd person view in this story because it makes it easier to follow, it also gives the sense of painting a picture and letting it all really develop in your head. i really liked the “caretaker trying to find their way in the world” theme because as the first daughter in a hispanic family your role is to be the caretaker forever and always. this book definitely was a slow burn but not so slow that you were bored, it was the perfect speed.

ARC REVIEW⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶️
I really liked this story, I loved that it had a soap actor in it, I grew up watching soap operas.
Leo is an ex soap actor, that is returning to the show for a short arc. They are doing publicity for it and that is where he meets Sophia, who is his biggest fan.
They are both older and had some hard times, so not really wanting anything.
He has twin daughter and she is jobless, kind of lost after being a caretaker for her family for so long.
This was a super sweet, feel good story. I felt like there could of been more detail to some stuff but it’s a short book. The only down side was, it’s written in 3rd person and I am just not a fan of that.

This book quickly jumps into the story of Leo and Sophia and how their world was turned upside down when they met.

From the very start, there was an electric connection between the two that even they did not understand. While the relationship escalated quickly, you still got to see the whole spectrum of emotions during a relationship be played out.

I adored how Leo was so down to earth and honest with his feelings throughout the book, it was so refreshing to have a man in a love story not be grumpy and selfish. Leo truly cares about his family and displays that with pride.

When I started this story, I really thought it would be just another romance but I found myself crying during the final chapter after watching the rollercoaster of life, healing, and self learning that every character experienced during the book (even the kids!). If you are looking for a quick read that will take you on a ride of the real parts of life and love, pick this book up!

This book perfectly captures how difficult it is for a caretaker to try and put themselves first after the person they have cared for so long passes away. Sophia feels lost after spending so much time caring for her brother and his daughter. Once he's gone, she doesn't know what to do with herself and feels like there is now a hole in her life. When her niece informs her that her teenage crush, a popular actor, is making a comeback and is participating in an auction, she encourages Sophia to go. At first, Sophia is reluctant, but once there, she feels a special connection when seeing Leo Barnes. He, too, feels like there is something familiar about her. From there, friendships formed between them, slowly growing into something much more.

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read an early copy of this beautiful story!!

Charity in Love was such a great palate cleanser. This is a small town, single dad, he falls first romance. This story is told from a dual POV of two people that need someone to love and lean on. This was my first single dad romance book to read and it was a great introduction to them!

If you’re looking for the following tropes:

- Single Dad
- Small Town
- He Falls First
- Dual POV

Then this is the story for you!

Title: The Charity In Love
Author: Everalda Ocampo
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️
Length: 318
Genre: Romance

Thoughts: Very raw and sweet romance, this is not my typical kind of read but it flowed very easily. I loved the character building and development especially when it came to his daughters. The romance and building of love between Sophia and Leo starts so subtle and build through the story so well.

Thanks to Everalda for the ARC opportunity!

Featured tropes: instalove, hurt/comfort, single dad,

Triggers: past death of family members, childhood abandonment

Review: 2/5

Man, guys, I don't know what to say except I just couldn't get into this one. Unfortunately, there were a lot more things I didn't like than I did like and that made it rough for me.

Things I liked:
- I thought the idea of Sophia winning the week on set and date with Leo was a fun concept.

Things I disliked or missed the mark:
- Everything moved SO fast. And that's not necessarily always a bad thing but, in this case, I didn't feel like the story was fleshed out well. Pacing was all over the place. Heck, we reach the last chapter of the book and Sophia hasn't even met Leo's kids yet. That's right, Leo avoids dating for years because of his kids and these same kids don't meet the woman we're believing he'll be living his HEA with until the last chapter. Pretty much let's all just smile and nod and go on with life. There's no time left in the book for anything else!
- The repetition in the storytelling was a lot. I marked several instances as I was reading where the author makes the same sentiment in multiple scenes. Did you know that when you're in an airport, on a plane, in a restaurant, etc. that the other people in that same location talking create a hum of background noise? If you didn't, you'll know after reading this book. It's mentioned many times, in multiple different scenes. It's not a bad thing to set the scene but when the same thing is said so many times, it really took me out of the story.
- Continuity is a thing that I hold dear. I'm a stickler for details. So, in the prologue which is dated as 10 years earlier when it says Sophia is 25 and has a 14 year old niece and then in chapter 2 (presumably now 10 years past the prologue), the niece is now 29, it kind of takes you out of it. There were several instances where they're going out for a specified meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and then they get to the restaurant and are having a different meal (i.e. they say they're going for breakfast but then get to the restaurant and now they're having lunch) and in one restaurant scene, they're handed menus multiple times. I get that we're talking about a whole heckin' book here but the level of inconsistencies really stopped me from being able to focus on the story and just made me increasingly annoyed as I read.
- I don't feel like the blurb really lines up with the story. First, the blurb indicates Sophia bids on a "mystery date" package with Leo. Like yes, kind of. She bids on a whole freaking week trip on-set of the soap opera which includes a walk on role, studio tour, media days, etc. and happens to feature a date. The fact that it was a week long trip was not part of the mystery, they straight up advertise the whole package as part of the auction's appeal. Then, the blurb says Leo discovers his agent signed him up for this "mystery date" package without his knowledge. Okay, maybe? I guess that could be true. If it is, it doesn't give that indication AT ALL in the book. It also makes it seem like Leo goes on this "prove to Sophia love exists" mission but really, it's pretty low-key and really not all that heroic.

Overall, this book just didn't do it for me. There were so many things that took me out of the storytelling that I couldn't focus on Sophia and Leo and just got so distracted by everything else. I did finish the book but it clocks in at about 260 pages so it's pretty short. I was frustrated enough but, given the short length, powered through. If it was any longer, I likely would have DNF'd the book.

The Charity In Love is a sweet romance and a nice easy read. This book was not too long and not too deep, so I was able to read it fairly quickly. I thought the premise was cute and I really appreciated that both MCs were older and were more mature than a lot of MCs in romances I read. Both of the MCs had emotional pasts and it made it so that they were both relatable and easy to connect with. The Charity In Love was entertaining and a great book if you are looking for something sweet and easy to read.

The heart can’t help but ache for Sophia. She spent her life taking care of her family. She wasn’t able to get out and live her life because she had to be there for her brother who was dying. Her escape in the form of a soap opera starring her favorite actor was one of the few things that she had. Winning the auction gave her the opportunity to see and experience more. All you wanted was for her to find happiness after she had given so much to others.

I really like Leo. Even though he was a beloved soap star, he was not immune from pain and heart ache. Who doesn’t love an older single dad who gave up his career in order to take care of his twin daughters? I loved Sammie and Beth because they seemed so much like authenic preteens. Even though the are twins they each had their own personality, and you could picture them giving their dad hell.

The Charity In Love was a sweet, easy romance that was a quick read. It is not super spicy but it’s one of those books that is great to read when you don’t want to get too deep in your feels, but you want a nice romantic story between two mature adults that have missed out on life. It’s definitely worth picking up to get that warm feeling inside.

✨ ARC Review ✨

⭐⭐⭐.5/5

Thank you to the author for the eARC opportunity in exchange for my honest review!

After so long of taking care of others, Sophia now has time on her hands and she has to figure out what does she want, what does she need? Not only this, but how to express these needs.

Leo is a single dad of twin girls; they're his life. He is just taking care of what and who matters most to him. But is it time for more?

Following Sophia and Leo was wonderful! Getting to learn what made them who they are and how they worked through their struggles was quite a journey; not always roses and sunshine, but raw and real.
And getting to see how they move forward from what happened in their past and grow into the people they are? Well, that's something you'll have to read.

Things I loved:
🔹The chemistry between our MCs
🔹Our FMC seeking the help she needs for her health

Things I wished were a little different:
▫️Some scenes felt rushed - but this could be me being greedy and wanting ALL the details of these two amazing characters
▫️Would have loved to have explored more of our MCs after the "jump forward."

This story by @everaldaocampo was one of the cutest and honestly life teaching books. Honestly felt like I was sucked into an alteranate universe where I was seeing everything go on from frontal view.

While reading the story I felt like the characters were super mature and honestly older than I was used to which was a good change. I felt like I was learning life lessons while reading the story since it followed the new journey of Leo and Sophia which was an amazing journey.

Sophia’s character was honestly such an inspirational character. She had gone through so many trials in life and having to stop achieving some of her goals to help her family and not really feeling like she can continue on with some guilt. I love how strong she was in turn and how she took ahold of her life and decided to go on a journey to find herself. Made me honestly want to do the same.

Leo’s character was also very inspiring to me especially since he had given up something for a while to be with his family. I thought it was an amazing thing that I believe would be the toughest thing to do especially as an opportunity influential actor.

The relationship between Leo and Sophia was so cute especially with how understanding they were to each other. They were opening new opportunities for each other and also allowing each other to grow which was such a refreshing concept.

I honestly truly did enjoy this book and loved the writing as well!
