Darkroom Saga book #4

Imagine a church where nudity is embraced and sex is a form of worship. It seems so unlikely, so alien and risqué, but it exists. In the wilderness of Texas hide the Sons of Cain, their compound shut and protected from outside infiltration, and behind its walls they worship in ways you could never imagine.

Sermons are an education, and their creed is bone chilling. When crime and Christianity join with a nefarious agenda, the victims are in orgasm, rapture, and wrapture. Candace is kidnapped but isn't even aware of it, manipulated and inducted into the wrapture culture, subjected to carnal heaven and hell.

Love has a way of freeing the soul, but an indoctrinated mind can be a dangerous weapon in the boudoir. The path of duplicity is steep and treacherous, taking Candace Caine deep into the erotic heart of Christian bondage, BDSM, and biblical porn.

Warning: This novel is rife with misogyny, sadism, perverted scripture, eroticism, explicit sex, gender abuse, and contains a traumatizing rape scene. Please do not purchase this novel if any of these offend you.

Do you like to live dangerously?

description

In the mood for something described as erotic horror in a cult setting where men think it's their job to sex up women to save them from hell and damnation?

description

Then I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Especially if you're craving characters who use innuendo like they're moonlighting as writers for SNL or wrote the script to Austin Powers.

description

He's banging into her like a machine gun pumping bullets

She looks at it, then me, and like a good girl who was just redeemed by holy jizz she opens her mouth and sucks me. Relaxing back I close my eyes. Now this is how god intended men spend their mornings. And he saw that it was goooood!

Sliding off the pew, shimmying between his legs, I rub the hard ridge straining against his zip, grinning, looking up at him through my eyelashes, “Would you like me to submit now? I'm in the mood to suck your erected pillar inside the temple.

This is all so kinky, and it should be disgraceful, but somehow it's not. It's a relief to know we don't have to pretend we don't have urges, or needs, or desires. We don't have to go to church with pockets full of guilt, pretending we didn't fuck each other to kingdom come the previous night. If this is level one of catechism I can only imagine that it's all downhill from here. It's wild, and I'm luvin' it.

This is just a minor sampling of the kind of language used in this book. At any moment while reading I expected a character to say "shagalicious" or "groovy baby."

I'm not against any of the content in this book. This is the kind of trangressive, dark book that appeals to me. I want dark humour, not this kind of cheese and camp in my erotic horror. You know, I can even read splatterpunk with camp, but the humour has to have some wit. This had none.

On top of that the author clearly did research and took her exploration of these kinds of cults seriously. I found the commentary lacking in psychological depth or insight - whatever social commentary the author was attempting to express was completely lost to me. The heroine meets a guy and within 3 days has fully accepted the cult. The cult was very straightforward in telling her how they expected her to behave....and I'm sorry most cults do not work like this. There is often a slower, more savvy seduction. Often the victims of cults are in a vulnerable place in their lives (perhaps economically or emotionally). The author provides nothing about the background of the heroine except she finds the sex with the guy hot. And that's enough for her to decide to join his religion (despite the fact that she doesn't believe in God), dedicate her life to him, and go along with his belief women are inferior to men. Wth? Talk about a TSTL heroine. She went from a normal girl to this drastic change in 3 fucking days.

When she failed to even ponder escaping on day 3 after she had been molested by the cult leader and beat by the H I became fed up. This was a DNF for me around 50%.

Here I am, on the 4th book of Darkroom Saga thinking: I’ve got you, Poppet!

I know you now and you won’t take me by surprise again!

Wrong!

WTH I've just read?! I don’t know what to say.
I have to mention though that I absolutely loved it the way the author started the book explaining the concept of this novel.
Below, there is a passage I have chosen to register here because I want to show some of the pics used in the book.

“…The ancient coins and artwork used in the headings are real, mostly Roman and Greek. This artwork was common in the days of ‘Christ’ and his disciples, seen in public and in the entrances of homes. It is art, it’s still on public display, and I have chosen to use ancient coins, paintings, and sculptures for chapter headings, to make the imagery more socially acceptable. And also to highlight how erotic images are not a new concept but as ancient as the New Testament. The contents of this novel is for adults only, including the images. Also the lack of capital letters when citing god or satan is deliberate.”

Nikki?Four books down and I am ready now for that walk in the park or a fluffy reading ;-)

As always, Here comes Poppet to karate kick you in the chest. Wrapture is a dark book, erotic horror, and it's fiction. Sensitive readers beware. Horror/Cult/Non-Con/May cause upset stomach.

I usually have to take breaks in between Poppet books, although fiction, the stories are smothered in truth. Because I know what Poppet researches, I can with 100% certainty rely on facts behind her erotic horror, cult following, bible thumping stories.

If you've read any of the books from The Darkroom Saga... Then you know Poppet can quote the bible like it's a natural thing. This book really is useful in "telling" us the misperception of the bible and the nonsense people in Cults use. I was a bit sick reading this. It's hard to read at times, but Damn of it isn't true on a sicker level. You definitely should be more open to a different interpretation after reading these books. Another excellent example of what a cult looks like.

Wrapture deviates from the original characters of The Darkroom Saga. It took me a minute to come to that conclusion. I'd almost say you could read this one as a standalone. But the series as a whole is worth a read. This is a journey through the sadistic workings of a religious cult. Candace meets Ken with the assumption of a wild night in bed, unbeknownst to her, the wild night will never be over and her nightmares have just begun. This story is hard to read, I've already said that, but let's be clear, this happens all the time... Yet, we never hear about it. The allure of being accepted into a community or sect is appealing to most, until the truth is shown. False pretenses unravel and what are you left with? This story delves deep into the psychological aspect of brain washing. How many ways can you interpret a passage?

Another phenomenal read!!!

Another fantastic dose of Erotic Horror from Poppet.
This time Candace and Kenan.
Lots more biblical quotes in this one felt I got a bit lost with them at times.
What Matthew did to her was sick, twisted and he was pure evil. I didn't think Poppet could shock me any more with what I have read so far. Wrong!!!
Number five her I come.....

Wow

This was powerful, intense, mind blowing, and heartbreaking. Mainly focused on Kenan and Candace, we watch as Candace has to learn the ins and outs of Kenan's religion and become 'a good and submissive wife.' With Matthew always lurking in the shadows, waiting for her to screw up and more than willing to dole out punishment, the couple struggles with trust and finding their happy place. Unfortunately, when Candace does make a mistake, she makes one of epic proportions and the punishment is brutal. I actually think I gagged at one point... pretty gross and violently sexual stuff. Still, I can't wait for Sinnergog; Poppet's got me hooked.

So many women young and old wish to some day meet their soul mate some find their other half, others don't,that's just a fact of life,They go to bars and clubs hoping to connect with someone while having a good time.Oftentimes a hook up occurs and afterward the two part ways never to see each other again. What would you do if you were approached by an impossibly handsome man with a to die for English accent who has eyes just for you?Candace Caine finds herself in this very tenuous situation and unbeknownst to her,her life will be forever changed and not in a good way.She finds herself in a world where religion is used as a warped tool to control and abuse, where women are slaves to every male whim and it is all sanctioned by god.I experienced so many emotions while reading this book,I was swept away in an erotic fantasy land,I was outraged and repulsed by the misogynistic attitudes displayed by all the brethren in this religious cult,I was heartbroken and nauseated by the abuses suffered, had bouts of fitful crying, even being unable to sleep after reading certain chapters. And finally I found myself happy for the indomitable strength that was born from brutality and for a redemption I did not see coming but was ecstatic that it happened.Poppet spins a yarn like no other and as I've said time and time again, once you have read any of her books you come away with a much higher IQ than you started out with. The Darkroom saga is not for the faint of heart but I implore everyone to read these books and do it with an open mind for the truth shall eternally set you free.Poppet uses her substantial knowledge from years of research to inform people through her literature of the dangers of following blindly.Yes this is a very dark and disturbing series but it has the qualities that make art a Masterpiece. She uses facts to bring home the devastation that some women and men live with daily right under our noses.I say HOORAY for Poppet for having the guts to say what must be said and for making our lives so much richer with her art. This book blew my mind and it will yours as well.

I finished this and I was speechless, meaning I did not at first know what to write for this review. Usually I keep pen and paper handy to jot notes as I go, but not this time. No, no, you begin this and you keep on reading! Anything jotted is a distraction. Generally I compose my review directly after a read, when content is fresh, but not this time. This time I needed to step back and let it stew.

There are two concepts (for lack of a better term) in Wrapture. One is the erotic side (which is graphic, containing stuff I had never even imagined!), and the other is biblical content (which is so well employed it boggles the mind) – how does one marry the two? Ask the author, because this is a woven tale direct from the psyche of an imaginative writer! How, however, does one marry the two for the purposes of review? Now you get; that is why Wrapture needed to stew a while first!

The first thing I asked myself is this: how can a woman be so utterly thick as to follow a stranger from a bar … and expect romance and roses???

The last thing I asked myself is this: really, Kenan, that’s the solution? You deserve to burn. You all do.

This is well-written, employs images and quotes to head every chapter to visual and insightful effect, and is a read that titillates and terrifies. More than once I envisioned myself with a mighty flamethrower entering the tale to unleash unholy retribution upon the myopic men in this tale. They think they are so clever, but … (where’s that flamethrower???) …

Setting aside the shock factor and the graphic content (not that you can do so for long!), Wrapure is thought-provoking, well researched and a fast-paced read that will literally leave you breathless. I do however wish to smite every character in this tale … maybe burn them. This reader will be back to read the next Darkroom instalment!

There are four books in this series up to now by Poppet. They delve into religion/cults in a very tortuous way. They are about abuse through religion and abuse of women by religion. There a typical love story in each of them as well obviously. Not sure I can get my head around the love story bit, but it does make a story I guess
I've enjoyed reading them but absolutely not for the faint hearted, they don't make an easy read and it does make you think about what you've been taught up to now and not in the best way.... 18+++++
