In the Four Kingdoms, the Desertlands are the last kingdom standing free. All they want is peace, but it seems their enemies care for nothing but war.
Sienna is the only surviving heir to the Desertlander throne. Being of royal blood makes her already heightened senses even more sensitive, and sometimes it all gets too much to bear. So she runs. Fast and far into the desert that is her home in order to escape other people's sounds and smells. She does this often (to the chagrin of her mother and her maid Sensei) and has always felt safe-until one day she runs too far and the illusion of safety is shattered.
Taken prisoner by her enemies, she is heartbroken to learn she will be used as a test subject to perfect a terrible weapon against her people. She is determined to stop this at all costs...even if it costs her life. But a surprising turn of events will change everything, and soon she learns that not all is as it seems.
Senseless: Escape gives us our first look at M. Stone's Four Kingdoms-a place that has been torn apart by war and chaos. The Desertlands are the last free kingdom, and the Waterlands will stop at nothing to finally conquer them too.
Stone brings her world to life and drops you right in the middle of it. She describes everything so clearly you see it all perfectly as you read. You are right in the middle of the action every step of the way and you experience everything the characters do.
Everything about this book is great-the writing, the story, the characters. You are drawn into the story and this incredible world that Stone has created as soon as you start reading, and it is hard to put it down once you start. I read the second book before I read the first, and I actually finished it the same day I started it. This one took me a little longer (only because I was forced back into the real world lol) but it is just as entertaining and captivating.
This book is the start of something amazing. Stone is clearly very talented, and she definitely has a long successful career ahead of her. I am waiting (sort of patiently) to see what happens next!
