Greetings From Paradise: What the Bible says about ...
Greetings From Paradise deals with our feelings regarding the opposite sex in contrast to our sexual codes. It deals with the development of sexual codes from the earliest time of human development as recorded in the Bible through to the present. The book points out how the sexual code of a society was influenced by the scientific / religious insight at the time and the organisation of that society, with particular emphasis on the classes within society.
Original Biblical language, Hebrew and Ancient Greek, regarding sexuality and organisation of family and tribe is carefully analysed. Some alternative possibilities for translation of some Bible Verses into modern languages are offered in the light of the changing meaning of words with time. The change in the meaning of the word 'gay' is a recent example of this, but there are a number of words in Biblical language which do not have a modern equivalent anymore, since today's society is organised very differently from ancient society.
This book is for readers who really want to understand the instructions of the Bible towards sexuality. It will be enjoyed by all who consider themselves Christians, from Creationists to those who don't even go to Church anymore, but still celebrate Chrsitmas and Easter in the traditional way. Even people who do not believe in God can gain insight into the history of the sexual code of Western society as it developed from its Middle Eastern roots and they might critically review their own attitudes towards sexuality and the present day sexual code. This code has undergone tremendous changes within the last fifty to sixty years and it is surprising how 'conservative' many non - believing people are today and those who wonder from which source this attitude towards sexuality is derived will find some very interesting food for thought.
