This is my second Japanese light-novel series that I've read. The first one was Demon King Daimaou whose ending was utterly disappointing. Silver Cross & Draculea, however, was not.
PROBABLE THEMES
The main theme of this series was, for me, discovery - looking for information regarding Rushella's past. However this issue was suppressed until the last volume. Never in the series they were actively looking for clues. The writer, Yuu Totsuki, only mentions in some paragraphs that they were asking people about it. Of course the only exception is in the third (?) volume when they go to Kirika's house and question her grandmother.
Other themes were probably Hisui's relationship with Miraluka (loss and gain), how he should interact with her. Like with a step-mother or like an older sister? Another theme surrounding Hisui and Mirakula is death and family.
For Rushella's theme would be fitted identity crisis and her affection towards Hisui. Which is also the surrounding theme with Hisui and the other girls. Not exactly affection, but in some cases love and in some others respect. note: this is the themes series-wise, actual theme/s for every volume may vary
CHARACTERS
The characters weren't quite developed and most of them had typical anime/manga behavior. Hence they were quite one dimensional. There wasn't any character development, only all developed some feelings for Hisui, which is of course typical for the genre. Nevertheless I also wanted to find out more regarding Hisui's past, even before encountering Mirakula. It would be nice if there was some spin-off series with Mirakula as the main character.
SETTING
The story in probably taking place in present time Japan (duh), over a period of several months. The story doesn't have much of a time skip until Rushella leaves and goes into hiding.
RATING
I kind of wanted Hisui to get some action, since this series looked quite mature as Demon King Daimaou in the end (the last volume, huh ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)). Overall this was a great series and hell of interesting. I'm still quite sad that it's only 5 volumes long, but it would be pointless to drag out the story with several other repetitive arcs like other series, as it would only ruin the story and my enjoyment. Kudos to the writer for researching the vampires and for creating a plausible origin story for the True Ancestors type of vampires.
