A must read

Firstly, this is my first book by this author. I enjoyed getting a male's point of view regarding relationships. Even though Apollo needed to take a trip into outer space most of the time, he grew on me like a rash by the end of the story. He better be glad Lyric had the right cream to cure his ashy attitude.
So here's the scoop. Apollo was a playa podcaster who gave listeners advice about relationships, and sometimes he gave raw improvised explosive advice about how to treat a woman. When he started to entertain Lyric, a woman with a few failed relationships under her belt, yes, I said a few. I expected the pair to fit like a peanut butter and pickle sandwich on the bread. And I was correct, mostly. At some point reality set in, and Lyric realized she and Apollo were their own worst enemies. I won't spoil it for you, however, Apollo will see the light, and he will take a stand. Yes, you need to get caught up in Rapture... Bravo King Benjamin. 4.85 stars

I was upset with pretty much every character the entirety of this book. The MMC, Apollo, was trash and I couldn't understand for the life of me why the FMC, Lyric, would want to give the Apollo any sort of second or third chances. One thing I told myself I wanted to do this year was read more books by male authors. I think I will probably stick to books outside of the romance genre when I do. (For me) it is usually obvious when a man writes a romance book. Not always...but something in the flow of the writing gives a masculine vibe. This was one of those times, for me.

The FMC was giving the vibe that she was pieced together from things a guy heard women say to and about one another. When the FMC was talking about what she was looking for in a partner, she said the right things. But it was how she said it that felt off. It was very surface level. It was "I want someone that can express himself and someone I can trust to lead." As a woman, I can't recall a time that I've been part of similar conversations with friends and haven't been more specific. That conversation between women would sound more like "I want someone that wants to tell me about their day and cares to ask about mine. I want someone that shows me how he feels about me and doesn't make me play guessing games about where we stand..." and so on and so forth. A subtle thing but one I noticed.

Lyric's best friend was annoying. She literally listened to her best friend tell her that her date had a woman come up to the table and accused him of being a deadbeat dad. All she heard was Lyric mention that he drove a Ferrari and encouraged Lyric to give him a chance. What for!?

The MMC had no redeeming qualities. He consistently showed that he wanted to disrespect Lyric and any other woman in public, portray himself to be some red pill guru to his social media followers, and play cute boyfriend in private. He only wanted Lyric because she didn't fall all over him like every other woman. He loved the chase, not her. They decided to be intimate on their second date and the spice was definitely male focused. Another one of the areas that gave a very masculine vibe. And although Lyric decided that she and Apollo were looking for different things in a relationship, she continued to give him chances.

IMO, they were in somewhat of a toxic cycle and they weren't right for one another. The majority of the book took place in about three months. In three months they had so many confrontations and splits. Usually the first three months are the honeymoon stage where both parties are on their best behavior and showing their best traits. For it to be so hard so early on was definitely a red flag for me. And I didn't understand when Lyric said fell hard for the MMC. He wasn't likable, he wasn't considerate, and he wasn't consistent with his feelings. What did she fall hard for? Decent looks, a Ferrari, and what was probably average sex?

Apollo is definitely not a guy that gives "book boyfriend" energy. He's the type that I pray never finds his way in my orbit.

I'm not even going to touch on her parents. They were a bit of mess, as well. And her ex was despicable. Seems that the FMC definitely attracts a certain type of man. I don't think I will continue with the second book.

Just because this wasn't a great read for me doesn't mean it won't be a great read for someone else.

Whew, this one had me giving the biggest side-eye at first, but then it got sooo much better!

Apollo? Listen. He was out here channeling full Kevin Samuels energy, and I just knew he was about to stress me out with his views on women and relationships. But then he met Lyric, and whew chile, things got interesting real quick.

Lyric has been on her own journey—no dating, full celibacy, just vibing—until her best friend pressures her into trying a dating app. Her first match? Total bust. But then she meets Apollo, and suddenly, she’s ready to risk it all! He’s handsome, charismatic, smooth as hell—the whole package. Their first date? A disaster. But when he convinces her to give him another shot, she folds…and let's just say, celibacy went straight out the window.

Now, Lyric is feeling him, but when she realizes how he thinks, she’s wondering if it's even worth her time trying to prove she's the kind of woman he swears up and down doesn’t exist. Because how can a man be so loving and sincere with her while still holding onto such…outdated beliefs about women in general?

Apollo, on the other hand, is shook. He hasn’t wanted a woman like this in a long time, and when Lyric starts bringing up words like commitment, he’s spiraling. He doesn’t want to lose her, but can he be the man she needs?

This book really had me thinking about the dynamics of relationships—how much two people can want to be together but still struggle with whether their fundamental differences can actually be overcome. This was my first read from King Benjamin, but definitely not my last. If you love a book that challenges your thoughts on love, relationships, and whether desire alone is ever enough, this one is for you!

Apollo and Lyric

“…let’s have a conversation about it just to see what kind of nonsense came from his lips, but I decided against it. I left him on read”

Very enjoyable read. This book had a good pace with drama, excitement, and romance. The dialogue made me laugh and kept me interested. I loved how no-nonsense Lyric was. She had no problem walking away from Apollo and that was my favorite part. Bc Apollo was serving well what most of these unmarried podcast guy are selling that felt believable. So glad they got it together but. Would have been perfectly fine if they broke up lol . But when Apollo did his soul searching he was ready to make things right.

Enjoyable read . I would recommend this book.

Rapture

First time read by this author. The MMC Apollo had me giving major eye rollage. First page in and I was like I don't like him. But it gets better I promise you. The FMC Lyric, had me throwing my by hands up in the air as well. But keep reading. Being single and out in the dating scenes. Whew chile.
Two strong minded people that knows what they want and refuse to settle. It was refreshing to see a male point of view written by a male author in a new relationship. As a woman I definitely could appreciate Lyric and her standing ten toes down for herself in a romantic relationship as well as the relationship with her parents.

I am not sure I’ve never hated a character more than Apollo Harris. Apollo was shallow, arrogant, obnoxious and overconfident. In my opinion he had no redeeming qualities. Lyric was desperate for love and acceptance from everybody her life, including her parents. She wanted to be loved and to me she just accepted what people gave and when they gave it. This read like a Tubi production that was a combination of “ Hitch, Breaking all the rules and Baby boy”. In short, I did not enjoy it.

If I were to rate it, it would be 1 star

It’s always a extreme chauvinistic, masculinity wrapped in tainted, toxic thoughts that have these men with these Kevin Samuels viewpoint. Well that was this book. Apollo is a man who is well off. Has parents who are married have been married for 30 or 40 some odd years but doesn’t believe in love. Even his little brother is married. He feels like he he’s doing men a service by letting them know what’s real and what’s not all while having women in rotation until he’s convinced that he should try this dating app. Not to find love but just to add to his rotation. Apollo does has his viewpoint change when he can no longer sit and think of lyric is out with other men or not giving him a fair try after she says they’re not aligned because they don’t want the same things. How ironic is it that now he’s wanting a relationship without it being called a relationship. Apollo really pissed me off because you could tell earlier on that he was feeling Lyric hard, but he also was not trying to allow his platform to know what was really going on, but also getting her wrapped into some of his other drama that he had going on in his life. Lyric was so sweet. She was honest as well with what she wanted and which is why she ended her last relationship because they did not want the same things and the fact that they’re getting older she’s tired of waiting blah blah blah and enough is enough. Lyric is completely done with Apollo and his ways on his podcast. She makes Apollo sweat because he really wants this girl. He really love her without knowing he is in love and it takes you having to literally stranger tell you something or listen to a fellow podcaster break something down for you that you never considered even thought. The man has prime example at home it wasn’t good enough.

A first at Romance for King Benjamin and he did an amazing job. Every time I thought I’d like Apollo he’d open his mouth and mess it up. He’s really chauvinistic and very ignorant. He’s just out here raking up conquests. Busting them down. Very ignorant.
I recommend this book because during one of Apollo’s broadcasts he says how differently men and women view one another and being in relationships, but not all.
Apollo is definitely a piece of work. He had one woman do him wrong and he formed the most ignorant and chauvinistic views of all women after that. He’s never viewed them as valuable, smart, important or equal. He’s never viewed actually thinks you’re lucky if he deals with you. He catches no feelings, no commitment. Count yourself lucky if you get a call for a do over.
I hated that Lyric was so much of a challenge to him he needed to conquer, because she wouldn’t fold like the others. Instead of him taking his time and going about it without an agenda. I really thought Turks and Caicos was going to be the turning point for him to see she was just who he needed. He messed that up too.
I wasn’t mad at Lyric giving Sterling another chance, at first, because Apollo would show back and forth. Unfortunately, Sterling was on fraud time because no other woman was Lyric. For the most part Lyric stood on business and put herself first, accepting only what she wanted and deserved. It ended up working in her favor.
Brittany is a sneaky, dunce for thinking her act would be accepted.
Sterling was a snake jerk.
Good first time romance. Good points to make you say hmmm!!

Whew Chile💯❤️👍👏🏾🔥🔥

Being fresh on the dating scene again and fiddling with online dating, the beginning of this book confirmed most of my thoughts about online dating (I'm 3 weeks in and still contemplating throwing in the towel) and low-key pissed me off because when did Author Benjamin King interview me🤔🤣 This is so my life right now and I read this in one sitting.
One of my Favorite author's has crossed over into Romance and did his F##king Thang!!! I ABSO-PHUCKING-LUTELY loved this read. And to be quite honest; although Part 2 would be great, it doesn't even need one because my imagination can create its own. Besides I don't want Apollo and Lyric to have any drama🤣🥰
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Apollo is a Man's Man and Lyric is a Woman's Woman. I love how Author Benjamin shows how behind all the glitz and glamour Real Men have feelings too!! Great Job!!

Impressive

In a genre dominated by women, it is refreshing to have King Benjamin’s voice and characters navigate the reader on this rocky road of discovery and love.

Apollo was a such a mixed bag, it seemed impossible that he would ever surrender his ideology or heart to love and monogamy. He was often crass and annoying but over time, the author redeemed him

Lyric was indeed a unicorn and I enjoyed seeing a woman do things on her terms even her se;ual freedom and how she engaged with Apollo was liberating to just read.

This is my first read by the author but definitely won’t be the last!

Rapture

🎶I’m caught in the rapture of love🎶 Lyric and Apollo took us on a ride didn’t they? When this first started, I’m not going to lie, I thought Apollo was going to be on a low key “I bet I can get this girl to fall in love & dip” kind of vibe. I was totally wrong! I loved how Lyric stood firm on her beliefs & wants/needs. It was so firm that she was closed minded but to me it was a boundary. Now at first, Apollo worried me. He worried me cause I didn’t know if he could be as open minded as Lyric. To most it may seem like Lyric was pressuring him but she just wanted complete honesty so she could move accordingly. I like the journey! Can’t wait to read more!!!!

“Rapture” was a good read. However, Apollo’s character will challenge one’s patience for dating, relationships & or monogamy in the twenty first century. Meanwhile, Apollo was the bane of male existence until his eureka moment (clarity from dad)…who knew: Apollo has a pulse, feelings beyond carnal or physiological & he wants to evolve beyond his misogynistic ways. And boom 🤯it happened (yeah, gradually), dates, thoughts, texts, dinners 🍽️ of one the one “woman” Lyric 🧐 and blindsided by love’s possibilities 🤭. Finally, "you are the perfect verse over a tight beat" a Lyric to penetrate Apollo’s jaded heart 🥰‼️

Beautiful Passionate love story!!!

Apollo is a charming man , He had my head in the clouds. He was a womanizer but still a good man. You definitely have to read this story to understand Apollo and why he treated women the way he did. I feel like lyric didn’t put up with his bs like other women did. Lyric and Apollo were perfect for each other. They had perfect chemistry. I loved the raw and passionate sex moments in this book . The author knew what he was doing. This was a really good book and I loved the ending. I will definitely read more books from this author.

engaging

This is the first book Ive read in a long time that I didn’t stalk the page numbers to see how long I had left to read.
I definitely didn’t agree with most of Apollo’s ways and still wouldn’t trust his cocky self but if that’s what Lyric wants then who am I to judge LOL.
It seemed to wrap up fast but maybe I just wasn’t ready for it to end.
I loved reading about a different culture.
Overall it was good and glad they found a happy ending.

Apollo 😮‍💨

This was a cute character growth over story between Apollo & Lyric! I won’t lie Apollo & Vella was majority irritating due to their selfishness toward my girl lyric!! 😮‍💨 However, I loved how Lyric stood on business and how it made Apollo ass come to his senses before he loses his unicorn!!

I did immersive reading with the audible version & ididnt care for the AI narrator but I did love the overall storyline

First time reading

This is the first time reading Mr. Benjamin’s work and it won’t be my last. I wasn’t sure what to expect with a male romance writer but this book did not disappoint. I liked Apollo and Lyric’s love story although Apollo fought it every step of the way. It was refreshing to read from a male point of view. Glad Apollo found his unicorn!

Great read!!

I was really really mad at Lyric for dealing with a man who I felt was so disrespectful. I kept reading and the author did a good job with the characters lives and what made them think and behave the way they did. As a woman I would hope women would read this and determine they won’t chase a man nor allow him to be disrespectful. Love yourself more.

yup...

...I loved it. There aren't too many male authors that I read currently so I was a little skeptical at first. I read a different series (more urban fiction) and came across this book (romance) and side eyed it... but to the chance and loved it! Great job on this, so please do keep the romance coming.

took me a minute, but ended up loving it

Honestly was not sold on Apollo most of the book (honestly just the mention of “red pill” ideology turns me off) but I do enjoy how you could slowly see his outlook changing throughout the story. I loved Lyric and like how she stayed true to herself and what she wanted. Ended up being a really good story. Glad I stuck it out.

It was a nice change of pace reading a romance story written from a male perspective. That being said, it was also frustrating, enlightening and surprisingly relatable. This was a good read from a NTMA who I'd love to hear more from!

Nothing like a f**k boy falling in love. I enjoyed the story, I struggled to find a connection with Apollo, but he eventually grew up and realized that love is worth it.
