A stranded cyborg finds refuge. A human finds an escape. But can they find love after war?Relic CyberTitans have taken refuge on a planet beyond the portal. Rogue CyberTitans have concealed themselves somewhere among the stars. For one Rogue unit, Eon, the void has been his home for the last two years...barely surviving in the frozen wasteland of junk that is all that remains of the human and cyborg vessels that fought for freedom and lost to the once-human now vicious Solcrue.
Eon
CSP will pay for their treachery. It is the only thought that keeps me going in this barren wasteland. I need a ship to come close enough that I can latch on in my limited power state. A scrap collection vessel is better than nothing.
What I don't expect is the mix of humans and Cyborg Submission Patrol soldiers onboard. One woman finds me, despite my cloak. She doesn't fear me. She defends me. Her older friend takes my side as well. The others try to kill me.
Her loyalty in the face of death turns me on. And she has mad skills for a junker. I only hope she wants me as much as I want her.
Raven
I'm certain the creature crawling toward our ship out in space is a cyber spy shaped like a spider, only when the airlock opens, it's not there. A cyborg stands before us, body shimmering with the distortion of a cloak the others don't take the time to look for. Scrapping for the Solcrue gives us some freedom, but the presence of a Titan upsets the fragile peace of the crew.
Weapons fire erupts. To my surprise, the Titan takes the first hit for me before another knocks me out. When I wake, I find him carrying my friend into the medical bay. The others are dead.
We can't let the enemy know he's alive and that he killed former CSP soldiers. I have to find a way to get us out of here without being noticed.
As we team up to find a way to safety and to the other Rogue CyberTitans, I discover just how eager he is to defend me, and how badly I need him.
A steamy, fast love, one-love, plot-driven HEA sci-fi romance.
4.25 stars. (Chamel)Eon, the male cyborg lead, has spent years conserving energy and surviving in space after being betrayed by humans he was present to protect. For the first time, he sees a non-enemy spaceship close enough to approach and he boards it, in stealth mode, determined to kill the traitors on board and make his way back to his cyborg brethren.
Raven, the female human lead, has been surviving by being necessary enough to the running of a spaceship to be kept safe on board, even if it means she’s scrapping for the enemy. She wishes she had another option and, when she realises there’s a stealthed cyborg onboard, she doesn’t tell the crew mates who are active human traitors.
Eon is shocked to see humans actively protect him and acts to return the favour, being seriously damaged in the process. Raven is desperate to keep the cyborg alive. Can they find other cyborgs and will Raven and her shipmate be safe if they do?
This novella is dual POV, well written, and a steamy cyborg romance that begins a new story arc in the author’s existing world. I enjoyed Eon’s patience and perseverance, and understood his reluctance to acknowledge his emotional reactions to Raven. I empathised with Raven’s initially apathetic response to a world where she felt she had minimal agency and few options. I enjoyed the way she became active and engaged once her situation changed. I enjoyed the relationship development between the lead characters, and enjoyed the many secondary characters and their quirks. I’m looking forward to more in this series!
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
Eon is a Cybertitan. He has been created to protect humans until he and his kind was betrayed by humans in the ignoble fight. Eon was flushed out into space two years ago by a devious human and has been alone since. He is part human so is thankful that he has not descended into madness in the vastness and dark. He is cold, alone and his power is draining. He has survived on revenge, hatred and seeing and freeing his brothers but he feels like time is running out for him. He must continue to survive and not give up. Raven, a slightly enhanced human who is working on a ship led by idiots. She only has one friend and it is Lucky. He has been her protector and teacher. She has learnt a lot from him and is grateful for his protection. She is canny, intelligent and smart. It is her and Lucky against the others who are as likely to kill them at any time. Only her knowledge of keeping the ship working against all odds is keeping her alive on the ship. Eon spies the ship and uses floating rubbish to covertly get close to and onto their ship. His idea is to kill all on board and take the ship.

CyberTitan Eon has survived floating among the debris of deep space, the abandoned survivor of the Titan escape from the enemy Solcrue. When a wandering salvager ship appears, he barely makes it to their airlock, only to find a divided crew - those bent on destroying him for salvage and two humans who defend their cyborg ally. Raven the human pilot/engineer saves him and hooks him up to restorative tech. This begins an alliance. Forged from historical roots, it turns personal as they form a bond of personal trust. Raven frees Eon from his punitive programming, and Eon frees her from fear and despair as they search the galaxy for the last refuge of the escaped Titans. They also fall in list/love. The romance is sexy and emotional, the journey is fraught with danger and uncertainty, and for that alone this is a great read. The real story here is their metaphorical journey to personal freedom and the understanding of what it means. That pushes the story to a new, higher level. It makes for an evocative and timeless tale that transcends setting and genre. This is a gem of a book, and this has been a voluntary independent ARC review.
A cyborg created to fight for humans is betrayed by them and left drifting in space for two years with barely no power and loneliness and despair as companions. Untill a scrappers ship passes near and he grabs the chance and there's where he mets Raven .... A beautiful story of hope, love and fighting against the odds, in the unmistakable style of Sybur Phyre! If you like strong and protective cyborgs and fierce females that fight for what is right, this book is perfect for you!
I absolutely love Eon ! What a complex wonderful character! Raven is an amazing character as well, and the more I learn of the Titans, the more I want to know. Such a great story and finding his brothers is icing on the cake. I can't wait to read more.
Wow so engaged from beginning to end ..love the interaction between Eon and Abigail, hesitant at first, then gradually committing, that, I found was the basis of this story. I can’t wait for the other rogue titans stories.
