From the author's is my 33rd book, devoted once again to my adopted city of Chicago. For this album, I wanted to capture many shots of the city’s legendary skyscrapers, moving along Lake Michigan and the Chicago River, showcasing the architectural giants in all their glitz and glamor. To me, this has always felt like a “global city,” a true peer of New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Tokyo, Moscow, Sydney. Goodness knows it has inspired me deeply, and I hope that I have found new things to say that I haven’t said before.

In addition, this travelog takes you along many of the city’s urban neighborhoods, including the lakefront parks, Wicker Park, West Loop, Fulton Marketplace, eventually traveling to the quieter surroundings of Edgewater and Rogers Park at the city’s north edge, finishing back at Wrigleyville and Roscoe Village in time for pizza at Bartoli’s.

Thematically, this album is also inspired by Soundgarden’s iconic 1994 album, and like my other music-themed books, this one aims to capture the colors and spirit of the music, its crunchy, thickly distorted guitars, its hints of psychedelia, its subtle nuances in tone and tempo, its polish and shine, its Seattle grunge and punk grittiness. I was also greatly inspired by Liam Wong’s brilliant during the “mastering” of my photos.

As always, everything is shot & edited on iPhone Xr and the stock camera app. I prefer to keep my tools simple and direct, and continue to show the possibilities of digital art. All photos were captured from March 2023 to January 2024. I love this album–heck, compared to Masha and the Silver Fox, this one was a breeze.

Thank you very much.
