Abductions #2

Beat Down

Rate this book
Psychic Investigator Ava Jane Rakowski, part time consultant for the Chicago Police Department, just solved her first crime. Her supervisor, Homicide Detective Lt. Jack Daniels, is skeptical. Good old fashioned police work would likely have tracked down the serial kidnapper, Raphael Ortega, in due time.

Unfortunately, Ortega is now out of jail because of an apparent clerical error. And when the brutal killings begin it doesn’t take a psychic to connect the dots. The only question is if they’ll find Ortega before he gives his next victim – which happens to be AJ’s best friend Tomen – a brutal BEAT DOWN.

Revenge can be murder...

Abductions is a 15,000 word novella (about 60 pages) featuring JA Konrath's heroine Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels who is the star of more than 1 million books, and Garth Perry's new heroine AJ Rakowski. Features action, suspense, and a fair does of humor.

Joe Konrath has written over twenty novels in the Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels thriller series. They do not have to be read chronologically to be enjoyed, but the order is: Whiskey Sour, Bloody Mary, Rusty Nail, Dirty Martini, Shot of Tequila, Fuzzy Navel, Cherry Bomb, Dead On My Feet, Serial Killers Uncut (with Blake Crouch), Shaken, Stirred (with Blake Crouch), Dying Breath, Everybody Dies, Rum Runner, Last Call, White Russian, Shot Girl, Chaser, Old Fashioned, Bite Force, and Witch Brew. More coming soon.

Wow, that's a lot of Jack.

If you like your thrillers on the dark side, check out the Konrath Dark Thriller Collective, which includes the books The List, Origin, Afraid, Trapped, Endurance, Haunted House, Webcam, Disturb, What Happened To Lori, The Nine, Second Coming, and Close Your Eyes.

Joe also wrote the Stop A Murder mystery puzzle series, where you become the sleuth and solve brain teasers to try and catch a killer.

He also wrote the sci-fi trilogy, Timecaster, Timecaster Supersymmetry, and Timecaster Steampunk. Even if you don't think you like sci-fi, give them a try. They feature Joe's well-known characters from his other series, and are insane.

With Ann Voss Peterson he wrote the Codename: Chandler thrillers, including Flee, Spree, Three, Hit, Exposed, Naughty, Fix (with F. Paul Wilson), Rescue, and Free.

And, finally, he writes erotica under the pen name Melinda DuChamp, also with Ann Voss Peterson. Those books are probably too spicy for you, so only the brave and bold should seek them out.

Joe writes a lot. You should probably read everything.

This short story was classic Jack Daniels and as such was terrific. So why the three star rating? It simply ended.

Just like that. No real resloution. Very unsatisfying. Still, for just a short story, it was OK.

Update Thread: (I don't review my own books. ;-)

January 2020 - Well, I'm finally working on the 3rd story in this series, tentatively called Confessions. I'll be sending it off to J.A. Konrath for edits in a few weeks. Will keep you posted. Thanks for reading.

A great killer mystery read

This is the second book in the series. The first was well done and the second is even better. The murderer and the kidnapper that AJ had helped capture are both mysteriously let out of jail at almost the same time. The story heats up and bodies start to fall. A surprise ending and a fun read.

AS ALWAYS AN AWESOME READ!!

Jack is still on the hunt, trying figure out, what exactly is going on. Of course, having to deal with a Physic is not making her too comfortable.
Me? Looking for the next episode!!

"To be continued..." is essentially the entire premise of this series. This is a few chapters of a would-be book.

I liked this one. Having read the first in the Jack Daniels/AJ Rakowski series of shorts, I already had the background necessary to read this one. I wouldn't recommend reading these out of order, as I figure the reader would lose a lot of necessary information doing so.

There was some good misdirection within the story when it came to who was being victimized at various points along the way, which is what prompted me to give this one four stars.

Looking forward to future installments, and maybe even a full-blown novel.

Hate being tricked.

I have read all the Jack Daniels novels and I thought this would be a complete story. Sadly disappointed that I was tricked into reading a chapter when I expected a novel.

Unlike some of the other Jack Daniels collaborations, this tale felt unevenly paced and even confusing, with very little coherence between certain section.

Cute follow up to Abductions, same characters and more like a part 2 than a separate story.

I co-wrote this short story with J.A. Konrath. It was in Kindle Worlds but has now been republished with Joe's permission and is available on Amazon and eventually other platform as well. It is a stand alone but also part 2 of a 3 story arc.
