Goodbye, Overtime! This Reincarnated Villainess Is Living for Her New Big Brother Volume 2

Rate this book
Ekaterina has settled well into her new life as the not-so-villainous villainess of an otome game. Perhaps a little too well, in fact! On top of spending most of her time thinking about her dear brother, she’s become friends with the heroine, Flora, and the main love interest of the game, Prince Mikhail, whom she’d sworn never to approach. Ekaterina’s not too worried, though, because she’s on track to avoid the doom flags that threaten her family and the empire after successfully driving back the monster that attacked the academy. She’s ready to kick back and take it easy when Alexei drops a bomb on the imperial family is about to visit their residence. How is she supposed to prepare for that?! Not to mention, she has to deal with her grandmother’s remaining supporters and her first-ever exam season in this world! Forget about relaxation, Ekaterina has no time to spare!

Done in a day, but it wasn’t as good as the first volume…I hope it’s just sophomore slump and not the beginning of a book slump for me…but this didn’t grab me as much as I had hoped. Not a lot had recently, hence my book slump concern.

This was ok, but just…meh. Luke warm. It didn’t seem to move forward much and the bro/sis con is getting…old, but not crossing the line of squick, it’s still a bit much.

I want to see more of the scenes from the game and how she’s dealing with them, not the brother and sister fawning over one another.

I DID enjoy how the MC h thumbed her nose at her dead grandmother who was evil, by giving away her dresses. That was satisfying.

Also, the glass pen and glass atelier that she bought were also good. More of that, less sibling love please.

3, I hope the next one picks it up, stars.

I made an account to review this book.

I'm going to be honest, I've been reading otome isekai since the age old days, I've pushed past dogslop and churned out pork for ages. This is exactly what I've wanted for ages. It was what I hoped Accomplishments of a Duke's Daughter would be but it took a different path which I loved regardless.

This series is a breath of fresh air in comparison to the market rn. First of all, the protagonist is interested in history, both of her past life and her new one and this is SHOWN in the text. I am genuinely learning things about Japan and my world because she keeps bringing up actual history from my irl world. And it's fun. it makes me want to get into history. I'm literally picking out an OpenStax book to use rn.

The protagonist actually has the self awareness of a 30 year old office woman in a teenagers body, she refers to the people around her as children and sure her fawning over her brother is weird at times but tbh I never really felt disturbed by it.

In addition, the protagonist continuously calls out tropes from the genre. When the (i will not spoil who but it was obvious) "Battle Maid" trope was revealed her immediate reaction was to ask if the maid was paid enough WHICH YEAH IVE BEEN THINKING THE SAME THING FOR YEARS. THANK YOU AUTHOR FOR BRINGING UP THE REAL PLOT HERE.

But honestly I knew this was something ground breaking when I first started thinking about Ekaterina's past all the way back in Volume 1, I started thinking about emotional trauma and how children might be affected by it and tbh I went way too in-depth and started going on about how children push back against caretakers they feel safe with to test the limits, how much safety there really is. but I've done the same thing b4 with no results so I wasn't expecting anything to come out of it.

me when the protagonist points out the same thing.

it's clear the author has read otome isekai before. it's clear the author has read otome isekai before and thought about it long enough for them to actually engage with the content. This is not churned out slop, this is an actual piece of written work that I can tell there is great care behind and I am eagerly awaiting the release of volume 3. I never buy physical copies because it's just easier to use my kindle but I'm going to buy atleast own volume for this series.

TLDR: This entire series is a written work that seems like people genuinely care about. the authors passion bleeds through and the amount of times I jumped up and yelled "RIGHT?!" When the protagonist pointed something out were numerous.

if uve been struggling with slop Otome isekai for a while, try this, you won't regret it.

Fresh off of defending the academy from a monster attack, Goodbye, Overtime’s second instalment has the series’ titular bro-con villainess face an entirely new dilemma: a visit from the imperial family!

The latest chapter in Ekaterina’s saga starts strong, as the series introduces its readers to the most important family within the empire, the royal family. Making their way to the Yulnova Duchy for the annual Imperial Flower Viewing, this visit presents the perfect opportunity to showcase the Yulnova household in a wider context. Chief among those getting a closer look within this volume are the Yulnova servants.

With so little time having passed since the death of Ekaterina’s grandmother, there still exist servants loyal only to her—something Ekaterina is promptly reminded of at the start of this storyline. During preparation for the royal visit, Ekaterina ends up having a run-in with one of these servants, formerly in service to her grandmother. The inevitable conflict between the two serves as a grim reminder of the twisted views of Yulnova’s former matriarch. Furthermore, these moments force out a more serious side to Ekaterina, proving she has the foundations of what it takes to become a leader amongst the nobility.

Despite these setbacks, the visit from the royal family goes well, and Ekaterina even manages to make inroads with the current Empress.

As the novel progresses, the story moves away from more serious endeavours and more towards the series’ gimmick, Ekaterina’s bro-con nature. This storyline revolves around Alexei’s upcoming birthday and his dear sister agonising over what gift to give him.

Inevitably, this part of the volume ends up being the weaker of the two, as it is unable to keep up with the interesting conflict set up in the first half. What it does well, however, is create interesting storylines for the future. The best of these new plots comes from the perspective of Vladimir, one of the many love interests from the original Otome game. Through his perspective, we learn that his family is suffering under similar twisted views as brought forth by Yulnova’s former matriarch. With Vladimir’s father convinced that Alexei is committing dirty deeds, it seems like a fight between the two families is on the cards.

Despite a weaker second half, Goodbye, Overtime’s latest addition to the series still has plenty of strong moments to offer. Chief among these are Ekaterina’s conflicts with the servants formerly in service to her grandmother. It seems that the key to this series’ success will come from the continued problems the series will throw at Ekaterina.

Ekaterina has plenty to keep her busy. She's been working to kick out or otherwise limit the household staff who still insist on doing things the old way, and help her brother Alexei stabilize their dutchy. But then the imperial family announces they're going to stop by, and suddenly there's a whole new complication.

The relationship between Ekaterina and her brother is still the highlight here. It's still pretty wholesome, in that both siblings are working for the other one's good, and it's also true there's a lot of junk both of them are trying to clean up. For her part, Ekaterina keeps accidentally impressing people when she falls back into the habits built by her previous life, as no one expects this sheltered girl to know anything about logistics or how a business is run.

I like that the story is relatively focused on the practical problems facing the siblings, and how they're dealing with them. It is a little less fun how the prince reacts to Ekaterina's lack of interest in him, although given the title and the general thrust of the story, I suspect he's likely to stay disappointed.

If you liked the first one, this is pretty similar. Recommended.

Translators, I think the correct term is reforestation, not afforestation.

One thing I fundamentally odd is that they’re always talking about the familial relationships between the older generation, but not the fact that those connections mean Ekaterina is cousins with Mikhail and Vladimir. The generations are a bit off though - her grandmother was close to the previous head of the Yulmagna family, because he was her uncle. That should make the current head her cousin. But…the current head should be of the same generation and age as her son Aleksandr. Oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️ sometimes generations don’t line up well. It also seems to be hinting the Yulmagna head killed someone without a trace…perhaps Sergei, who died rather than young?

While not too original (especially the world and the set up), and there is the over the top reliance of sister and brother on one another to deal with, it is still an entertaining and quick read. The story itself is fairly serious, taking both the isekai part and the people somewhat serious (there is even some character development) even if life goes somewhat easy on the main character. Nothing deep, just what I was expecting, so all in all, a good read.

Wow! Done reading within the day. I can't believe it! And of course, it was also a bummer that Volume 3 isn't out yet. I seriously love the siblings. Why is that? I know the hardest part hasn't come yet. But I love the parts that the siblings would spend time together and show their affection for each other. 😊💕✌️
