Delta Project: Rescue

Rate this book
D005 has been a part of a secret government program known as the Delta Project her entire life. She has been genetically modified to be stronger, faster, smarter and to heal faster. Trained in hand-to-hand combat, weaponry and battle tactics, she has been worked to physical and mental exhaustion every day of her life. Raised without love or care of any kind, she has no idea what it means to be happy – to be free. And now she has run away.

After leaving the Hartman Ranch in order to keep her new friends out of danger, Weston embarks on a mission to save her brother and the other Deltas with the help of someone from her past. While at it, she will learn more about the Delta Project itself and what it is about the Deltas that makes them special.

During her journey, she will be put in difficult situations. Will she be able to remain the caring, fun-loving Weston she became? Or will she revert to the cold, distant D005 of her past?

And will she ever see Cormac or any of the others ever again?

Jessica Jaster lives in Iowa with her husband and her (currently) one year old and two year old. She has always had an over-active imagination and has been making stories up in her head for herself for as long as she can remember and finally decided to start writing them down (when she is not busy chasing the two little ones around anyway) and sharing them with anyone interested. Most ideas she has so far for her novels are for young adults, some fantasy, some science fiction and some normal contemporary story-lines.

I was gifted a copy from the author for an honest review.
This book is no different than the last when it comes to pulling at your heart strings and leaving you wanting more. I have fallen in love in with this series and I can’t get enough of it. The promise of a fantastic story teller is all over the writing of Ms. Jasters.
Weston is on a mission to help rescue her brother and the others from The Delta Project. But it won’t be easy. She meets up with Halloway and spends some time with his family and then makes her plans of rescue. But her heart aches for Mac and to have that kind of family. With Commander and his crew out looking for her, will she be able to accomplish this mission and bring her brother and other Deltas to safety? Will she be able to see Mac and make amends for her abrupt departure?

As I was reading this book, I wrote down key words that I was feeling as I was reading and I would like to share them with you.

Yes.....oh no....no no...WHAT....hurry....run...not again....YES, MAC.....please please....awesome....kiss her....don't do it Jessica, don't end the book like this......NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome, amazing and frustrating is how I sum it up!

Best part of the book: This was a roller coaster of emotions just like the first book that I loved it! Weston has left the ranch and wants to free her brother from Delta Project, but it is a little harder to get back in. With some help is was finally able to get in. Now, she had to get out. Well, Jessica Jaster threw a twist in there that I did not even see coming. I won't spoil it, but read it. When she her plan succeed she ended up back at the ranch with Mac. Ok, it was not that easy but I am giving with short version. I was so exacted to have Weston back at the ranch with Mac, but it was not all sunshine and roses.

I still love Mac and his relationship with Weston. My emotions were everywhere when these two interacted together.

Not so great: OMG! Jessica Jaster you cliffhangers are KILLING me!!!!!!!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!

Delta Project: Rescue is the second in the series and may I say it was a brilliant follow up to the first.
The storyline is unflappable - it has tension, angst and its always emotional witnessing the journey Weston is making as she slowly leaves number five behind.
I'm a little disappointed with how little Cormac was in it after the progression in their relationship in the first book - I wanted more romance. I know its a YA book but a little bit of steam wouldn't have gone a miss! I know Mac is always there in spirit throughout the book but it just wasn't the same for me!
To think that the next book is going to more like this book as Weston goes on another adventure is a little deflating. I know its not all about love but when you throw two characters together so perfectly its cruel to us readers to keep tearing them apart. Other than that and the same grammatical and spelling errors in this book as there was in the first it was a really great read and I can't wait to continue through the series!

Bravo! Jessica you have managed to do it again! please continue to write great fiction!

Delta Project: Rescue is the second book in the Delta Project series. I have not yet read the first book, so I can’t tell you anything about that one, but although I would have benefited from reading the first one, Jaster does a good job in filling in any blanks and bringing in the back story without telling the entire story again.

I enjoyed Delta Project: Rescue. It is a fun sci-fi story that really draws you in. I was presented with a lot of questions, probably more so because I was reading the second book, but that only succeeded in intriguing me more.

The main character, D005, is interesting. As a reader I got to see her grow and get a handle on what it is to be human, to have emotions and, maybe most notably, compassion.

Things move along at a nice pace. There are down moments that are just fun, and then when we read the middle of the book the action just keeps going up from there.

For readers of the first book, I think a lot of what you would want to see with the budding romance (I won’t say any more than that) is dealt with.

So, without reading the first book and knowing what “promises” Jaster made to the reader, I found Delta Project: Rescue to be an enjoyable read.

All that being said, I was a little disappointed by the number of typos and there were a few more grammar mistakes than I would have liked. There wasn’t a distracting amount, and it didn’t really take away from the story, but in my opinion there was a bit more than there should have been.

Also, occasionally the dialogue comes off as a little forced or fake, but I found this mostly in the beginning and once Jaster got into the flow of things I didn’t notice it at all.

So, for those two things combined I’m taking off one star, because they are pretty minor in the overall story.

I give Delta Project: Rescue 4 out of 5 stars and I will definitely be picking up book 1 in the future.

I was so thrilled to finally get to read this book, wondering what was happening with Weston, would she be able to get back into the compound and if so would she be able to rescue her brother? Once all that is done, will she and Mac get back together?! I read this book with my stomach in knots because there were so many unknowns!

Weston has to figure out a way back in, she will not be able to do it alone, but help comes from an unlikely source!

New characters are introduced towards the beginning, I so enjoyed getting to know these people, and I pray that we will see more of them in the next book.

We learn more about Weston and the other Deltas, more about their beginnings and what it was like for them "growing up". We are given some ideas about what has been planned for the Deltas, and Weston's role.

You know I do not, or at least I strive not to give away details of the books I review. That fact is this book has twists and turns that you don't see coming, and as you also know, I like for each reader to go through the emotions the way the author intends. Therefore I'm not going to tell you much, I've already given you a small clue!

What I liked: I enjoyed many of the surprises that were given in this book. I love Weston, and I want her to succeed so badly. I also loved that once again Jessica played with my emotions and left me dangling from a cliff as I read the final page.

What I didn't like: That I was left dangling from a cliff! Yes! It is a blessing and a curse!! Where is book 3?!?

Would I recommend it: Yes! Yes! Yes! It is nice to read something different from my normal, and although this is YA, it has more of a science fiction feel to it.

This is an amazing continuation to Hide! Weston realizes she must rescue the others from the Delta Project, especially her twin brother. Knowing she needs help, she seeks out one of the guards she remembered.
When she finds him, her recent stay with Mac and her new found feelings interfere with her plans. She is not the cold-hearted D005 anymore and considers Halloway's family. It was touching that she is able to put his position into a loving father's perspective!

Can Weston save her brother? Will Halloway help? Will her brother understand? What other secrets will be revealed? Will the Commander leave Mac and his family alone? Will she ever see them again?

These questions and more are covered within the pages! Check it out!

I was given an ARC for a honest review
I really loved the first book and was thrilled to receive an ARC of book two! Book two was action packed just like book one and was suspense filled. Weston is in turmoil when trying to go back and save her brother and some other genetically modified Deltas on her own. She encounters much resistance and the book keeps you turning those pages. I was captivated. I love Weston and Cormac! There is also a love story going on. You will love it. I can't wait for the next book!

I was provided a copy of this book for an honest review through Wicked Reads.

First thing, I have to say is I absolutely love how Weston quietly describes every man in comparison to Cormac. He was about the height of Cormac; He was broader than Cormac; etc. I thought that was an exceptional way to still keep him part of the story even though she was so far away from him through most of the second book. I also thought it was a good way to show her deep feelings for him, even though she did not realize it. I was so frustrated with waiting for them to be reconnected! But, this is a good thing for me. The frustration makes the book seem all the more real and the soft way Jessica showed the longing Weston had was wonderful. When they finally did cross paths again, I was so grateful! I look forward to what will happen with them in the third book.

I loved the new characters that were introduced in this book--especially Halloway and I hope we see him again in the next book! The interaction between he and Weston was very well written and I appreciated that it was just another side of the "world" that Weston was getting introduced to. She is moving farther and farther away from being a "machine" and closer to the person she is at her core.

I also really enjoyed Six's character and I look forward to meeting more of the Deltas. Every character that comes into play in this series is uniquely their own, but it is interesting how each of them pull something out of Weston in order for her to understand who she is at a deeper level.
