4.25 🌟 So many emotions and all the feels were felt with this one! Kendrix is a man who knows how to use his words to penetrate your heart and your coochie!!! MY GAWD. This was a intense yet beautiful second chance romance filled with romantic suspense and some unexpected plot twists.
The ending felt a bit rushed and I felt the subplot could've been a little more flushed out or better setup / explored, but I have no complaints for how things turned out for Phoenix and Kendrix, because they both deserved the love that they had been depriving themselves of for so long. And I could relate to the mother wound / issues Phoenix dealt with on a very personal level, so that part of the story hit home for me! Destiny was a much sh*ttier excuse for a mother than the one I've experienced in this lifetime... But I digress.
I read “Finding My Way Outta Darkness” almost a year ago, so I forgot how much I enjoyed this author's writing. It's a beautifully engaging blend of faith, praying, healing, found family, romance, sex, and suspense in her plots / storylines that I thoroughly enjoyed. And although this can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading Makayla and Brian's story AND novella (which I accidentally skipped) first to fully understand Phoenix and Kendrix's, because it picks up right where theirs left off.
I will definitely be reading more of Briyanna Michelle's work and hopefully we will be getting Asha and Levi's story soon!
Another heart breaking story of a young man, helpless as his sleazy father beats on his mother. The kind of fear that Kendrix and his mother lived under was unbearable and not going to end in a good way.
Phoenix is perfect for Kendrix and they are good for each other. But she is weary of waiting for him to make his move. However, Phoenix does not know that there are a couple of people blocking their relationship, on purpose. And who they are, is absolutely shocking!
A Heartfelt but Uneven Follow-Up: Briyanna Michelle’s Finding My Way to You
I powered through the second book in this series, Finding My Way to You: A Redemption Love Story, and I found the core idea heartwarming—that love can transcend time despite the obstacles in its path. The religious elements offer uplifting messages and a sense of faith, revealing many meaningful ideas the author chose to explore within the story.
The concept and messages are easy to follow, but the dialogue didn’t always flow; it sometimes felt a bit unbelievable. The author seemed to rush through deeper conversations, and I didn’t feel the full emotional depth or the richer exploration of the characters, the emotions, and the plot. It gave the impression of haste to finish the story rather than a deliberate, paced development.
I’m rating it 2.5 stars. It didn’t fully resonate with me, but every reader is different, and it might resonate with you. The only way to know is to read it and form your own opinion. For me, I don’t plan to seek out more by this author at the moment.
Keep writing and keep reading—the hardest part is putting your work into the world for others to critique. Don’t let anyone dull your fire; the path to improvement is through practice and persistence.
Baby, baby, baby…what do I even say?! I absolutely LOVED this book! Kendrix and Phoenix completely took me by surprise. I’ll be honest, in Book 1 I was definitely on the fence about them, but whew… they fully redeemed themselves in this one. Their growth, their passion, their story—it all came together so perfectly.
I read a TON of romance, and I always take a moment to reflect on what it must take to bring a story like this to life. Writing characters that feel so real, so layered, and so emotionally gripping is no small feat - and let me tell you, Ms. Briyanna Michelle did THAT. Kendrix and Phoenix had enough chemistry to start a forest fire. Their connection leapt right off the page, and even though it took them a while to get it right, it was so worth the wait.
Now let’s talk about these side characters! Levi and Asha have had me hooked since Book 1. There’s something brewing there just beneath the surface, and I am not okay until I get their full story. Like… immediately!
This was my first book (and series) by this author, but it most definitely won’t be my last. If you love your romance with a splash of crime plot, run to pick this up. Highly recommend!
10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Kendrix and Phoenix story was so good! 😊 Kendrix was not the one to be played with especially when it came to Phoenix.
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ The romance was top tier
“This is selfish of me, but I need you to love me, I need you to care about me, and I need you to give me your all. There is no one else on this earth who makes me a better man. I need you to not give up on me baby, please.”
The Thriller in suspense was so good that it was twisting in turning! 😳😳😳😳
My favorite part is when Phoenix told her mother and father can go to hell 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This book was so good and I loved it from beginning to end. Childhood sweethearts that fought for love for 15 years. They went through hell in back but still manage to come out on top!
“Emotionally unavailable adults start as emotional kids who love out loud but are told not to cry when they are hurt. People don’t realize you can’t have happiness without sadness, rage, or excitement.”

Briyanna has found a way to create a series that embodies the "it's always been you" trope. Every book showcases a soulmate connection that spans time and space....Finding my way to you is the prime example.
The way that Kendrix never wavered from Phoenix was the thing of dreams... however their lives up to this point resembled more of a nightmare. Kendrix has been living with a secret for 15 years and living without his better half for 4 of them because of said secret. However no amount of time can diminish his feelings for her. As a man who lacked the ability to protect the first woman he's loved, he has vowed to do everything in his power to protect the last woman he will ever love.
This books is the perfect blend of taking a moment to enjoy a soft life during hard times. Amidst the high stakes you will find cooking class dates and steamy showers.
That being said, I'm going to need Asha and Levi's story like yesterday.
I love the way the author writes and captures love in her books.. It’s so beautiful to read a book when the men let god lead them..
If he don’t love me how Kendrix loves Phoenix then I DON’T WANT IT!! I knew their story would be good.. but damn if it did not have me punching the air.. There are things in this novella that I did not expect.. 83% in I had to put my kindle down and pick my damn jaw up off the ground.. definitely all the criminal minds vibe..
Phoenix definitely rose from the ashes..
Let’s not forget the spice.. I swear if my man don’t rub my essence on his… no spoilers! But shit..
I know there has to a one for Asha and Levi cause the way that man make my girl putty .. ima need that!
Kendrick and Phoenix took me on a full emotional rollercoaster. I thought I was getting a simple second-chance romance, but this was layered, unpredictable, and so much deeper than I expected.
The slow burn was done beautifully. Nothing felt rushed, not the healing, not the growth, not the love. You really get to watch their relationship evolve, not just rekindle. The redemption felt real, messy, and intentional.
There were unexpected moments that had me shook, and yes… I cried a little. The ending was happy, just not the typical fairytale formula, and honestly, that made it even better!
Briyana Michelle did her thing with this one. Definitely a must-read for Black women who love depth in their romance.
What can I say about this book?!?! Besides that I absolutely loved every single moment of it!!
I thought that Brian would do anything for Makayla but it was nothing compared to what Kendrick did for his Jewel!!
Yes he pushed her away after her mom threatened him but the things for her that she knew nothing about, once he told her, she realized how much he really cared about her and how he took care of her when she thought he didn’t care about her.
But the drama that tried to keep them apart, will have you not being able to put this book down. So go ahead and add this book to your TBR, you will not be disappointed!
I know we are all looking for our next book boyfriend but i need yall to skip this one cause I’m claiming Kendrix. lol Author Briyanna did a wonderful job at writing her first thriller romance. She did a wonderful job of making sure the romance didn’t overshadow the thriller aspect and vice versa. I would be hard pressed to think this story doesnt connect with readers. Kendrix is a hard man but he will soften up only for those who he cares about. Phoenix!!!! Phoenix is the only woman I’d share Kendrix with lol.
I really enjoyed watching Phoenix and Kendrix's stories unfold. There was so much drama going on behind it all but at the forefront was always the love. You could tell from the beginning that they were meant for each other but allowed outside forces to keep them apart. I was also happy to see Phoenix step into her bad a** woman moment. When Travis came into the picture it just brought me joy to see that he was able to give and receive love matter the crap life threw at him.
I love a good second chance romance and Phoenix & Kendrix delivered. They both had stories and pasts that hindered them from fully being together. It was always some drama happening, but they overcame.
This romance had a really good mystery to it as well. I love when a man has to go on a mission to protect his boo and Kendrix did just that. He DID NOT play about his jewel!!!
If you love a romance with some mystery to it as well as depth within the main characters, this is the book for you!!!
I really wanted to like this book because I was rooting for Phoenix and Kendrix but it was a no for me. I felt like they did a lot of back and forth in the beginning knowing that they wanted each other and Kendrix trying to get everything right. But it felt drawn out and that annoyed me and then there were things that just felt like they were being thrown in there to amp up their love story that didn't lend to the story at all. It almost felt like a bad Lifetime movie when they just start throwing everything but the kitchen sink into the story.
Ken loved Nix so much !! I love a man who grovels always and he did !! Everything he did he thought of her !
I’m not gonna lie my heart broke at one part cause my name is Madison too & because what she meant to Nix and what went down 🥺
I love their family dynamic , all of them protect each other no matter what ! I think I need to go and read the first book but I just know their story is going to break me 😔
I liked the story. There were no major issues to report, just a good solid love story with a mystery component. I knew who the culprit villains were long before the big reveal. Even knowing early on, I still enjoyed the story. The ending could have had more gravitas for me... but oh well.
I don’t know what I expected but this book was better than my expectations. Phoenix really lived up to her name. Ken finally accepted himself and it wasn’t all gloomy.
Destiny I didn’t expect to be who she was, nor did I expect Seth.
I really liked this book. I loved how we got to see Phoenix and Kendrick love story evolve. I definitely didn’t expect the plot twist in the story but it made the story even more interesting. I also love how it brings awareness about sex trafficking. This is my second book by Briyanna Michelle and she did not disappoint! I can’t wait to read more by her!
I enjoyed this second read in the interconnected series (hoping we get one about Levi and Asha) but back to Phoenix and Hendrix, this story kept me hooked. It was a good pace with twists and turns. Happy they got their HEA and Travis was a great addition to the family. The emotional vulnerability in these two characters was beautiful to see, they both deserved love!
If they don't love me like Ken loves Phoenix, I don't want it. This book had me crying. I have been Phoenix and man oh man. The book is the epitome of book boyfriends have set the bar high for men in reality.
I love this love story. This author is doing great every time I read her books the stories and writing get better and better. I love how she mentions God and prayer in her books. Can’t wait for the next one!
Kendrix and Pheonix were definitely meant to be together. The way he never stopped loving her even after her sorry ass mama threatened him, he still loved her from distance. It was good to see them actually get together and be in love.
I stumbled across this book on TikTok. Briyanna was personally promoting her book. I heard criminal minds vibes and I immediately got the book. I was not disappointed.
I absolutely adored this read. It gave me suspense, spicy second chance romance, a thriller aspect and a plot twist that I didn’t see coming. That’s all I can ask for. I cannot wait for book 3!
I absolutely loved this. My bf and i known eachother 10 years before we got into a relationship and he would always tell me that we would be together so this hit home 😍
