Lucky Mangum is a sheriff’s deputy in rural Timucua County, Florida. As a young girl, her mother was killed, and the boy Lucky loved, Michael “Cal” Jessup, was a suspect. Lucky always believed him innocent, yet the smalltown gossip and collective community doubt resulted in Cal moving away. Twenty years later, he has returned home to reunite with his family and Lucky, whom he has never forgotten. But just as Cal returns, a local young woman is found gruesomely murdered, and another has gone missing under suspicious circumstances. Then another. It becomes clear a disturbing pattern is emerging. Assigned to the county’s task force to combat the issue, Lucky’s focus splinters between a possible relationship with Cal, re-examining her mother’s cold case, and the current killer stalking Timucua. A killer she may not be able to stop alone.
I purchased this book at a book fair event where I was able to meet the author, Elaine Edwards. She gave a brief overview of the book and I was already interested. From the moment you open the book you begin to get drawn into Timuca and the story unfolding. I was in a reading funk and I could not put this book down once I started and want to read the others in the series. This book is suspenseful but the story is fast paced with two mysteries occurring at once. One in the present and one in the past to merge into a plot twist at the end that you will never see coming. I totally thought I had it figured out and knew who would be the guilty one- I was wrong and it was one time I was excited to be wrong. Highly recommend!
Hunting Blind was written by my special friend Elaine, and you will be hooked from beginning to end! The story revolves around a murder that happened a long time ago and the investigation will have you guessing who did it. Full of twists and mystery, you will love it! Highly recommend! Five star!!!
I picked up this book after meeting the author at an independent bookshop. It is outside of my usual preferred genre, but it sucked me in and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happened. The author writes with such descriptive language I could picture everything happening as if I were there or watching a movie. I really enjoyed it!
Omg!!! It had me in the 1st chapter. I didn't want it to end. Very well written , fast paced and such a good thought thru story. So far my favorite book of the year. Please you won't be sorry read this book.
Hard to put it down! Well developed characters, vivid settings, a budding love story, and the suspense of whether they can catch a serial killer in time. Looking forward to reading the next one.
I picked up this book at a local bookshop only because it was a local author , i didnt even read what it was about lol. I absolutely enjoyed this book! I also found out after i read it there will be two more books in a standalone “series “ ( meaning you can read in any order!) and i cant wait to read them all !! Next book coming soon! This book was very meticulously written . I felt as if i was the detective solving the case all the way to the end . Very descriptive detail ! This author’s writing style is very unique and i hope to read many more books by her.
