Nice anecdotal travel journal. Some of the observation still apply today. What bothered me were the sloppy mistakes of foreign words and place names, as well as the truly Russian arrogance that shone through, especially in the Polish chapters (Vodka Auschwitz??).
A funny book, with a somewhat nostalgic feel on the 1990s, and most of all a geniune very loving and respectful attitude towards the Ossies, Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Hungarians, Bulgarians, Romanians, their histories, folklore and behaviors.
I like to drink and travel, and again, I am fortunate in that I have travelled a fair bit around North America and Europe, so I appreciate what is being written. Actually wish I had the opportunity to repeat and update this journey.
