Lint Head

Rate this book
Brenda Lee Branch had one chance at love, but her overprotective brother and quietly guarded father put an end to that. Both Brenda Lee's story and a love letter to small town America, Lint Head is woven in a historic mill town, lacquered in hairspray from the Lord and Ladies Beauty Shop and bound in the red-back hymnal that provides the church with Sunday songs. Quirky and naive, Brenda Lee is surrounded by a cast of protectors who embrace her innocence while helping her navigate a world where not everyone can be trusted.

This book gets 5 stars from me because (1) it is character driven. I love getting to know fictitious people so well that that I hate to say goodbye when I finish the book. I definitely would enjoy more visits with Brenda Lee, her family, and her friends. I’ve known so many of her metaphorical cousins through the years - good, country, salt-of-the-Earth, people next door who just want to live the best they can and leave the world a little better. The second reason for the 5-star rating is that the place descriptions were so graphic I could visualize Brenda’s walk into Paris, her humble mill-village community, and the backed-up traffic at the railroad crossing. I enjoyed the visit to Sumner. I grew up in a similar mill town. And a third reason for the 5-star rating is that there was a subtle life lesson in Brenda’s learning to make lemonade from the lemons and sugar that her life circumstances gave her. Redemption is possible. We can make changes. Life is better when we have like-minded associates supporting us. Overall, Lint Head is a good, quick, satisfying read.

Bill’s book “Lint Head” is an awesome read! I throughly enjoyed it from the first page to the last page. Being born in the South and living all my life in a small town in Georgia. I could associate with what Bill was writing. A lot of laughs as I read some tears in certain places as I read. All the food mentioned by his great character Brenda Lee made me hungry. I loved it. Five Stars from this Reader Fan!!! Looking forward to your next great book Bill!!!!

Almost all of my family on both sides worked in the mill at some point. I was born in the mill village, and the book rings with authenticity to me. The characters and use of the setting are a great help to moving the story along. Brenda is a compelling character whose adventures within the story draw the reader into her world. I rooted for her and was happy when she broke out of her lint head routines.

Bill Fortenberry has been my dear friend for most of my life, and I know he writes from his heart and with great affection for his subjects. I could picture every scene in this book and hear the voices of his characters in my head. I read this wonderfully written story about an era long gone away in 2 days.

Excellent book. I love the way Bill Fortenberry pulls you into the main character's life. The book reminded me of growing up in my own small hometown. It's definitely worth your time to read!
