Ely North is the bestselling author of the DCI Finnegan Yorkshire Crime Thriller series—gritty, gripping, contemporary British police procedurals set against the haunting beauty of Whitby, the North York Moors, surrounding coastal villages, and the majestic Yorkshire Dales.
Leading the charge is DCI Frank Finnegan—a sharp-witted, old-school detective with Irish-Welsh roots and a Yorkshire tongue. With his dry humour and “never back down” attitude, Finnegan is a fan favourite: “a good policeman and a great character.” He’s flanked by DS Zac Stoker, known for his blunt honesty and dogged loyalty, and DI Prisha Kumar, a smart, modern counterbalance to Finnegan’s old-fashioned methods. Their camaraderie—and the occasional clash—gives the series heart as well as edge.
Since its 2022 debut, Ely North’s series has captivated readers worldwide, earning over 33 million Kindle Unlimited page reads, with Black Nab alone topping 5 million.
North’s storytelling blends “twists and turns that keep you guessing” with authentic characters and a strong sense of place.
One reviewer called it “as addictive as anything by Ann Cleeves,” while another said, “Ely North is fast becoming one of my favourite authors.” Perfect for fans of Dervla McTiernan, Peter Robinson, and Joy Ellis.
Ely North’s novels offer crime fiction with atmosphere, dark secrets, and the occasional laugh in the face of murder.
The DCI Finnegan series is set to continue for many more books to come.
Another brilliant book in the DCI Finnegan series. How can just a severed leg wash up on the harbour beach? Where is the rest of the body? One of DCI Finnegan and his teams most complex cases. Drugs, a hidden cannabis farm, missing hikers, hijacked tankers all combine to test DCI Finnegan and his team to their limits, almost to the point of the death of one of them. A fast moving story set against the beauty of Whitby and the stunning North Yorkshire moors.
Love the latest ECO Finnegan. Lots of things going on but brought together brilliantly by Ely. Old adversaries come back together and do battle once more but who comes out on top. Open ended for some characters so can't wait for next instalment.
Another excellent book in the DCI Finnegan series. The whole story is gripping from start to finish and all the characters are brilliant with the banter and humour between them is great. Can’t wait for the next book
Excellent story poor prisha thought her days were over in the police, then Mansel gets murdered, I thought if was! Kimberly who had killed him but it was the Russian woman ,plenty of action Prisha gets to keep her secret and job and Kiri gets hopefully her commupance
This book took a while to get my undivided attention. I liked the twists that I thought i had solved only to be surprised. The guy from MI5 actually made my skin crawl. Great descriptive writing.
Prissy nearly gets it but Dinkel does his stuff and finds the drug runners hideout. Finnegan knows something is happening and Prisha thinks she moving to be outed. Not to be and all evidence is destrhed.
Really enjoyed the latest installment to the Frank Finnegan series. When you find yourself reading one more chapter after one more chapter you know it's good.
I have thoroughly enjoyed all the books in this series that I have read so far. Live in Whitby so it was that connection that drew me in initially but I enjoy a murder as much as the next person!
This series of books is absolutely brilliant. The characters are superb. Every book is an absolute page turner but have to say book 8 is the best. Can’t wait to read the next one Ely!
